410s (22 Cars)

Welcome Mat
The legendary Lou Kennedy Jr. (and son in a 360) come to town for the first time all year. Wade Nygaard and Western Australian transplant Greg Hall also back tonight. The 40 of Clint Garner also in the house.

MIA
T-Mac after whipping some Outlaw ass at Eldora with a win on Friday and a 5th (from 22nd) last night in the Royal.

VIP
Usual patrons in the usual spot on a lovely, but cool, July evening.

Time Trials (1 lap each)
Scott Winters (1st car out) set quick time for the first time on the year with a lap at 10.886 on a track that finally looked promising. Bronson Maeschen (21st car out) was 2nd quick with a lap at 10.974. The rest of the field hitting the heat race invert: Mark Dobmeier, Clint Garner, John Lambertz, Gregg Bakker, Jake Peters, Nygaard, Kennedy, Chad Meyer, Troy Meyer, Marlon Jones, Jody Rosenboom, Hall, Robby Wolfgang, Joe Riedel, Dusty Ballenger, and Ryan Bickett. Johnn Cressman was a scratch after hot laps with motor issues.

Time Trials Grade: A; Mostly goes for track conditions as they looked very promising for the night's festivities. And it didn't hurt the 23w brought home quick time.

Heats (Top 6 Inverted from TT, All to the A, Top 4 Hit Feature Invert)
Heat 1 Starting Order: 8 Laps

4

Chad Meyer

Row 1

Row 2

Row 4

56

Johnn Cressman

Row 5

Heat 1 Finish: 6 4 23w 16/ 40 3 15 (DNF) 56 (DNS)

Heat 1 Notes: Riedel elected for a rear start when he should have started on the pole. That brought everybody up a row on the inside. Winters was able to jet up to an invert spot of 4th coming off of turn 4 by getting past both Peterson and Garner. Rosenboom took off with the lead while Winters quickly moved up to 3rd by using the bottom to get past Peters. Peters was able to hold off Garner to hit the last invert position as Rosenboom picked up his 1st heat win of the year in the 410 class. C. Meyer showed smoke at the checkers and would end up putting his brother's motor into his #4 Schnee for the feature.

Heat 2 Starting Order: 8 Laps

33

Dusty Ballenger

Row 1

4WA

Greg Hall

1

Troy Meyer

Row 2

Bronson Maeschen

101

Chuck McGillivray

Row 4

Heat 2 Finish: 33 96 4WA 101/ 12L (DNF) 1 9N

Heat 2 Notes: A jumbled up start saw T. Meyer in the air down the frontstretch but landing on all fours while Nygaard knocked out the steering as he veered drastically into the infield on the start. Both were done as T. Meyer had a flat. Ballenger took the lead on the start as a caution flew after the first lap as Lambertz had a broken shock, and he pulled in as well. Maeschen was able to grab 2nd at the white flag heading into turn 1 from Hall. Ballenger picked up his first heat win of the year as well.

Heat 3 Starting Order: 8 Laps

9M

Marlon Jones

Row 1

1A

Robby Wolfgang

11x

Gregg Bakker

Row 2

Mark Dobmeier

17B

Ryan Bickett

Row 4

Row 5

Heat 3 Finish: 9M 11x 21K 1A/ 13 17B 13JM

Heat 3 Notes: Bickett was also supposed to start on the pole but elected to start in the back. Jones grabbed the lead on the start as Bakker dove into 2nd past Wolfgang. Meanwhile, Dobmeier knocked down the nose wing in the early going and he had issues getting by Wolfgang for an invert spot after Kennedy moved into 3rd past Wolfgang. Robby hung on for the very important 4th finishing spot.

Heat Grades: A-; Damn impressive track for the heats that saw drivers on the cushion halfway up the track and also on the bottom on a very racy track.

B Feature (Top Tag the A, Laps)

B Feature Grade/Notes: No B Feature as all cars were eligible to start the A.

Baete Forseth Back Row Challenge
Winters immediately turned down the BRC on the frontstretch during intermission as Maeschen did the same thing. That brought up Dobmeier, who was going to start 14th on the grid no matter what Winters drew for a pill inverision, who immediately accepted the $5,000 challenge of winning from the back in what was a very smart move by the Lunstra/Dobmeier #13.

A Feature (25 Laps)
Starting Order: 8 was drawn by Winters

A Feature Notes: Rosenboom jumped the initial start out of 4, but would grab the lead after the field was jumbled back up. Winters was quickly up to 4th by the completion of the 2nd lap on a track that was absolutely perfect with a top and bottom to run. Rosenboom was getting to lapped traffic on lap 5 when Wolfgang spun out at the bottom of turn 4. Kennedy had just moved into 2nd past Jones, but that would be negated for the caution.

The lap 5 restart saw Rosenboom ahead of Jones, Kennedy, Winters, and Bakker. A couple of laps later saw Kennedy move into 2nd out of turn 4 as Winters moved into 3rd after going down the frontstretch. The last caution of the night occurred on lap 9 as Martens spun at the top of turn 4. At this point, Dobmeier was catching the cautions he needed and had quickly moved into the top 10 with heavier hitters infront though.

The last restart on lap 9 saw Rosenboom ahead of Kennedy, Winters, Jones, and Bakker. Rosenboom was able to take off as Winters moved up to 2nd quickly and was tracking down the leader in a hurry. He would take the lead running the bottom of turn 4 with 12 laps to go much to the delight of the VIP, but things would only get better after that.

Peters was up to 3rd at this midway point and having issues trying to get through traffic and past Rosenboom at the same time. At about this time, Dobmeier got squirrelly and slowed in turn 2, but was able to keep going. Meanwhile, the T&K Transport #23w Schnee was bobbing and weaving through traffic like a pro that saw him split 2 lappers in turn 1 with an awesome move. Winters was able to keep the sail up the rest of the way and won by over a half of lap that registered a 7 second dominating victory on the stopwatch ahead of Rosenboom who held onto 2nd. Dobmeier somehow made it up to 3rd at the checkers after starting at the back of the field.

The $2,500 victory was Winters 1st 410 win of the year at the track and his 3rd career 410 win at the track. Rosenboom led laps 1-13, Winters 14-25.

A Feature Grade: A+; Track conditions were phenomenal and that was topped off by the dominating victory for the 23w.

360s (16 Cars)
Dusty Ballenger took the early lead from his pole position as the 26M of Brad Mandery flipped on the start after getting into turn 1 too hot. Ballenger led again at the drop of the green on the complete restart, but Wolfgang was coming in a hurry on the bottom of the racetrack. He took the lead on lap 5 off the bottom of turn 2 and wouldn't let back even though the red waved again for the 8 of Lane Brenden. Wolfgang was never challenged by anybody after the restart as Rosenboom moved into 2nd, but had nothing for the 1A of Wolfgang. He picked up his 2nd 360 win of the year at the track and also his 3rd career 360 in impressive fashion.

360 Finish: 1A 27 2D 5 4 20K 10 12 17v 17B/ 51 24 1 8 76 26M

FOAW: The initial bid was going to go to Wolfgang after dominating the 360 feature, but he was upped by Winters after his dominating 7 second victory. Damn, that was a fun one to watch on an amazing track.

Crowd Pleasing Moment #1: Winters finally winning and (finally) breaking the Big J jinx that hadn't seen the Report see the 23w in victory lane in about a year, even though he has many wins at other racetracks without myself in attendance. Great time hanging out back with the boys after with nothing but smiles being shown.

Crowd Pleasing Moment #2: A Winters/Wolfgang sweep of the night is about as good as it can get for a night at the race track.

WTF: Huset's announcing that the upcoming All-Star is the "biggest show of the year as the schedule stands right now." We had a great laugh about this as they're trying to cash in on this show before they announce their make-up WoO date that is supposedly coming in September.

"Home of the Professionals" Moment of the Night: N/A, it was that good of a night!

Mulligan Moment: Wertz making no sense via text message trying to make excuses for the Dude's slow showings at Knoxville with the traveling circus. There's a 12 pack of LandShark Lager on the line for the upcoming Nationals with myself taking T-Mac and Wertz taking his favorite Dud. Lets just hope he's back from Flori-duh to witness it in person and to pay me off on Saturday, August, 15th!

Head Scratcher: After some bitching on the local board about how raggedy the US flag was getting, there is a new flag dawned atop of the flagstand. Man, I wish I had that kind of pull with this little report!

Thumbs Up: Track conditions were by far the best of the year. The track was smooth and warranted a top and bottom that were equally as good. Kudos to the track prep for finally figuring it out, as well as Dave Lunstra, Gregg Bakker, Shane Scadden, and who ever else for bringing in equipment to fix the track a few weeks back.

Thumbs Down: The night kind of dragged along after the start of the features, but not too much to complain about on this night

Prime Mover: Dobmeier technically started 21st, but he wound up starting 18th after a few cars did not start. Nonetheless, going 18th to 3rd with only a few cautions was damn good.

Trophy Queen Grade: A-; Not bad for once!

Closing Stat of the Night: Dobmeier was able to extend his point lead over Bakker by another 7 points to up it to a 17 point lead.

YouTube Clip of the Week: In this new section, I caught this clip Sunday afternoon and its another one of the Report's favorites trying out his pitching skills Saturday night at Grays Harbor in Washington. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQ5gktf5-4E

Quote of the Night: "On a scale of 1-10, that was about and eight and a half." Inside joke that just about us to the ground out back!

Final Thought: Best night (by far) at the racetrack. Should be fun next Sunday to see what Winters can do with McCarl possibly coming back to town for a tune-up for the All Star shows in a couple weeks. Should be fun to see what T-Mac can do, hopefully from the back for an extra 5 grand, if we get a track like that next week! Next report coming from Huset's next Sunday.

Wow I never knew I had that much power, in regards to the flag. I made that comment on the last Report. I'm sure someone donated it to them. Great run for Winters. Comments were made in the pits that it was one of Forbrook's Mopar motors?

My next suggestions since the flag comment produced some results, lower the damn concession prices or at least charge for what little portions you get.

It was nice to Dobs not sandbag in the Time Trials, first time this year I believe.

Look at the record books my young friend and I believe TMAC's name comes after Lasoski's in just about every category known to man (Except for Huset's but that is because of the extend porch tour).

One race does not make you a god.

My Landshark better be cold when you pay up as well.

Yes Dobs struggles with qualifying all year at Knoxville, and at his home track with the WoO are due to sandbagging. I'm sure none of that carried over to the Home of the Professionals, where he was "sandbagging"...let's get a clue people...

Evidently you haven't been up to Husets this year, its a standing joke when Dobs is qualifying, with the exception of last night. Wish someone had tapes with sound.

Re Dobs:

Thought you had to qualify through the heat race to be eligible to take the back row start for the $5,000.

Well, lets just say like everything else at the McScrewbin's race track, all things are subject to change at the last possible moment. Since only four other drivers so far have taken the challenge and didn't claim it, now they say the final race on championship night will pay the bonus out to those that are quailifed through the season no matter where they start if they win????????????

It was clearly a slight mixup and Tassler getting all wound up on the microphone and giving a chance to Dobs that clearly didnt qualify. Whoops.. Move on.. Lets just be thankful that Dobs didnt win it and then try to get someone to write a check that wasnt "technically" earned.

(Mark) Tassler has already personally admitted on a local message board that the mistake was totally his fault. Though no one can go back and correct the past, lessons have been learned, rules and stipulations regarding the challenge have been clarified and the whole deal is moving full steam ahead.

BTW, "from a sponsor", the $5000 bonus that is posted for championship night is a separate deal. All drivers who accept the challenge at a weekly event, whether they win it or not, are eligible for the bonus on championship night. All they have to do is win from their regular starting position (going to the back is not necessary).

I'm amazed that he actually wrote some positive things about Husets for a change. Usually after I read the report I wonder why he goes there each week.

Tassler's post was very well put together and well said. Shows his passion and dedication for the sport.

Well when it takes until July 19th to finally make the track smooth with multiple lanes of racing, there usually isn't much to "praise" about the place. BTW, thanks for being one of our loyal "closet" readers!
