Not a real flashy paintjob, but when Jerry Blundy strapped himself into it; it truly became a thing of beauty! This picture was taken on the square in Knoxville, during the week of The Nationals.

People, people, people. Every so often, someone starts a thread about good looking sprint cars (aint it cool?). I always see some really nice wheels posted by several of you. Thank you all *again* for sharing.
However........ for the "umpteenth time", I submit to you......THE WINNER! .................

I so agree with this selection!

My personal bent is the reflective numbers and graphics that "explode" when a flash hits them. Lot of good pictures wind up not being used because of that. The other thing is a color scheme, or graphics wrap, that's so complicated and has so much going on that you can't read the sponsor's name! That IS what the paint or vinyl is supposed to do, isn't it? Sell the product? If I was shelling out the bucks to sponsor a car, I wouldn't want my logo buried somewhere in a mess of "stuff," no matter how colorful it is. The one that sticks in my mind was the Lettuce (or was it tossed salad?) car that ran with the WOO a few years ago. What was THAT? Anybody got a picture they can post? Maybe it wasn't as bad as I thought. I come from the early 60's, looking at cars that plainly said "Dean Van Lines" or "Leader Card" or even "STP" in letters you could read when they went past at 150 mph or were wrapped in a dust cloud. Of course, if you didn't NEED a sponsor, you could always do this.....
And NO, that's not a wrap....that's two weeks of hand painting work.

Thanks Hawker. It gets no cooler than this. Could you email me this? [email protected]
Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

I’m older than Stan so I guess that must make me almost older than dirt, lol. I saw my first race in 1953 when the two big stars of the IMCA were Bobby Grim and Bob Slater. I won’t tell you how old I was at the time, but if you can do subtraction you can figure out I’ve been around for a while.
I still see some nice looking race cars out there, but my all time favorites as far as the paint scheme would have to be:
- Hector Honore’s “Black Deuce.” That beautiful deep, shiny black with white lettering and only one sponsor on the hood: Bardahl Oil.
- I agree with Dave 21x. Mel Moffit’s #33 driven by Jerry Blundy was a real beauty too. I think it was the beautiful paint job that first attracted me to being a fan of Jerry’s. And when I finally got to meet him he and his wife Marge were such great people I became a fan of the man forever. (I suppose that’s obvious by my post name, huh?)
- Any number of cars driven by Bill Utz and numbered “56”. Bill’s paint schemes were a little “wilder” but beautiful all the same.
I have pic’s of all these cars but not the time to dig them out right now as I recently lost my wife of 48+ years. She too was a big sprint car racing fan until the night we were sitting in row 12 right behind the flag stand at Knoxville when Darryl Dawley and Roger Larson both perished at the start of the A-Main. She very rarely went to a race after that.
Anyway, have a good day everyone, thanks for all the great pictures, and don’t forget to tell those you hold dearest in your heart that you love them! You never know when it may be the last chance you have to do so

Yep, I am. But I've got to see a lot of great sprint car drivers in my day. My only regret is that I never got to see Emory Collins or Tommy Hinnershitz in action. I did see Jud Larson race though, lol!

Sorry for your loss. Hope you can get out to the track this year and let the smell of methanol bring back some good memories.
