A lot of people complain about the track at SFS. I was just wondering what people would do to it if they could reconfigure (realistically). I for one would like them to move the back straight out and smooth off the back sides of 1 and 2. When you go off the track back there there is a huge hump that gets you airborne. I don't know about any of the stock cars, but when our cars land and bottom the frames out our backs take all the shock. Also the front of the car is heavier than the back so it noses down while airborne causing the car to dig in and flip when you land (this happened to Little Lambert last year).

1. Go back to the half mile, widen it by moving lights inward. Run all classes on it. My reason for this is that casual fans don't get enough of a sensation of speed while watching from the stands as they are farther from the track than most. This makes them think they are not seeing real racing. We racers know better, but we need their money, too.

2. Change format. Nobody cares about watching 8 car heat races. Just divide the field and start with C-to-B-to-A feature. This would allow more time for longer A features, maybe 50 laps for stocks, pro stocks, Mods. Wouldn't want to do to much of that with Sprints, though. Sprint is, by definition, a short race.

3. Merge the Pro Stock class with Late Models. It seems there are a lot more Late Models out there than Pro Stocks. It would be like when Supermodifides were merged with Sprints, and the class became all Sprints after a couple of years.

Would like to see the 1/2 mile back in action but here are a few reasons why I won't get my wish:

1) Track saves $$$ on insurance

2) Track saves $$$ on track prep

3) Track saves time on track prep

4) Motors would not last as long thus reducing car counts on some nights.

Oh well, at least I can say I saw the 1/2 in action before!

1) If we are committed to the 3/8's, and it appears we are, move the light poles to safe locations.

2) Widen the track in as many places as possible, but especially coming out of turn two and all of the way around three and four. We see many drivers run a high line in 1 and 2, but very few in 3 and 4.

3) Admit the drivers into the pits for free as a show of goodwill -- not the pit crews, just the driver.

4) Fighting is an automatic season-long suspension, unless it occurs in the last three events of the year in which case it transfers to also include the following season. Yes, I know this is a rough and tumble enterprise, but the fighting is precisely the kind of crap that keeps fair boards looking down their noses at our sport and meaningful corporate dollars with other ventures.

5) Clean up the rules interps and crew responsible for making judgments relative to mechanical questions.

6) Transponders.

7) Refinement of black flag policy -- no one official can rule a black flag; must be at least three track officials who agree. If that can't be done, place an official at every corner and that is the ONLY person on track level who can call for a black flag, and then it must be confirmed from someone in an elevated sight line.

8) More wingless 410s.

I could probably dream up a few more but that's good for now.

Wow, nice Kenny. I 100% agree with everything you said. I think you mean the same thing in widening the track as I do move out the back straight. 2 and 3 need to sweep more allowing for passing opportunities, and allowing people to run the cushion.

Yes, exactly, and if the light pole at the top of three and four was moved, we could have some top shelf racing on the north end too -- then we'd have a racey little track.

And I probably forgot the most important one -- an actual safety crew, complete with fire suits, at the track.

Obviously none of this will happen because it would require Lanny to break out his wallet, but here goes anyways.........

Open the half mile back up and switch from that to the 3/8's mile track every other week.

Set up a boxing ring by the scales.

And in a perfect world, get rid of the factory and pro stocks......wink

Need to start with a clean up!! Some paint, a lawn mower & a weed eater would go a long way! Where we all watch up at the fence, last race that grass & weeds was about a foot high, & the half mile track, which should be a shrine, looks like some half-assed wheat field. A few more trash cans in the pits would be a big help.

More driver/fan interaction is a must. When I was a kid those drivers were like heros & 10 foot tall! Some schmoozing with the press is a must also. Since Scott Munn I can't really remember a reporter that really LIKED being there.

Coming out of 2 & the back stretch is a mess. For sure need more track & less angle off the back side. Until we can get the fair board to believe they can make $$$$$ on this deal, expect NO improvments. I think if it doesn't say OU & have something to do with a ball we get no respect.

More butts in the seats is the only way to get better purses & I guarantee the biggest crowd we had this year was the non wing show. Get the POLITICS out of it & just go racing! When street stocks were STOCK cars, we usually had 60 to 80 cars a week out there racing. That is a LOT of $22 pit passes! 16 street stocks is pathetic! ALL classes need to simplify the rules & cut the political bs so racing can be fun again.

It's a tough pill to swallow, build a $30,000 dollar car & race for peanuts. The big killer "just my opinion" is we gotta un-hook these cars. Foot on the floor follow the leader racing is just not much fun & even more borong for the fans.

OMG How scary would #2 be 50 laps, most are brain dead at more than 25. But YEA for latemodel, and we need full latemodel not some kind of limited.

let the mods groove tires Lanny tracks are the only ones in the state where you cant groove tires it's just a money saver

winners dont cry when they lose , they go back to the
drawing board and come back for round 2 !
