Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series

NEW USAC/CRA DRIVER-TEAM COMBINATION DEBUTS THIS SATURDAY AT PERRIS
By Lance Jennings

APRIL 12, 2016... When the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars return to Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday, April 16th, a new partnership will make their debut. The Moose Racing #92 Team has announced that 5-Time Champion Mike Spencer will pilot a second car alongside Jake Swanson. The Tom and Laurie Sertich owned team hope to run both cars for the entire season and are looking for additional sponsorship to make this a reality.

Since earning the Non-Wing World Championship Rookie of the Year honors in 2001, Mike Spencer (Temecula, California) has been building a resume worthy of National Sprint Car Hall of Fame consideration. Driving for Ron Chaffin Motorsports, Spencer won five consecutive USAC/CRA titles from 2008 to 2012. As this writing goes to press, Mike ranks second in series history with 63 Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Awards and 37 main event wins to his credit. On November 3, 2012, the second generation driver scored his greatest victory- the prestigious Budweiser Oval Nationals at Perris Auto Speedway. In addition, Spencer has recorded two USAC West Coast victories, including the inaugural 360 Oval Nationals at Perris in 2013 racing for Mark Priestley.

In a recent interview with Scott Daloisio on the Perris Auto Speedway Podcast (www.perrisautospeedway.com/podcasts.html), Mike explained that following the passing of car owner Ron Chaffin, the family has decided to suspend operations of the #50 team. For the first time in his career, this left Spencer without a ride and the opportunity with Moose Racing became available.

The Huntington Beach, California based Moose Racing Team has competed on the West Coast Sprint Car scene since the mid-1990s. Drivers such as Glenn Carson, Casey Shuman, Tony Jones, Rusty McClure, Dave Darland, Danny Sheridan, Greg Bragg, David Cardey, and more have raced the popular #92 sprint car. Last season, Jake Swanson ran fourth in USAC/CRA points on the strength of four Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Awards, two heat race victories, two hard charger awards, eight top-5 finishes, sixteen top-10 finishes, and 12 feature laps led. In 2014, Jake earned Most Improved Driver honors with USAC/CRA and on June 19th, the team won their USAC West Coast & VRA 360 Sprint Car debut at Ventura Raceway.

The Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series will be back in action on Saturday, April 16th, at Perris Auto Speedway for the “So-Cal Showdown.” The event will mark the third time in history that the USAC/CRA 410s will race on the same card with the famed World of Outlaw Sprints. The PAS Senior and Young Gun Sprints will join the action on the “Power of Purple Night” Benefiting the City of Perris Relay For Life and the American Cancer Society. Perris Auto Speedway is located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds at 18700 Lake Perris Drive in Perris, California. For advance ticket information, visit woosprint.com. Can't wait to see how these two drivers do.  The experience Mike brings coupled with the enthusiasm and youth that Jake brings should lead to good things in the future.  Hope Moose Racing can find the funding to keep Mike in the seat all year.
