This is a VERY candid & interesting read written by Joey about his career.

I know this link will never work on this God forsaken antiquated message board but here it is anyway. Find it & read it. it's worth it.

I would like to see Joey get a Woo championship just wouldn't seem right if he never did. Probably would of got one the year he broke his arm at Eldora.

Gentelman.  A title or 2 in the Mopar years would have happened if it weren't for injuries.

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER

racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint

Clicked on the thread just to see how you could possibly make this about Ford or Mopar.....wasn't dissapointed.

great article.  i always bang my head on the wall when someone posts on a forum wondering if a racer is going to "move up" or suggesting that a good driver should "move up."  weather it be from a 305 to a 360 or 360 to a 410 or local to outlaws.  Its a shame at that level of racing basically 4 cars are rides that a driver can make money.  360 racing is just as bad if not worse.  there are basically 4 guys who can show up with their helmet bag alone and not worry about finances in this sport, and be out of the ride the next year at that.  thats why u will never see half the talent out there.  99% of drivers are simply sitting on the best horse they can afford.  simple as that.

Joey referenced the Kemenah brothers as "the UUI team", I wasn't sure if he wrote this story 6 years ago or if he just got confused.

That's one of the most entertaining things I've read. Very candid, brutally honest. I really liked how he brought up the fact that Eldora has been ruined because for some reason, far too many people are actually entertained by watching pavement trucks driving around at 25 mph and beating the shit out of one another instead of actually watching real race cars RACE. I don't blame Tony for doing it one bit but it sucks.

I thought those comments were very intersting as well. Back in the early 90's there used to be a cushion that would form about 8-10 feet from the wall at heat race time. As the cars would line up, guys like Joey & Kevin Huntley in the Wahlie #1m would drive up there checking it out. After the green flew only the bravest raced above that berm. Those were good times.

Sap my friend, those were simply the BEST days in racing, man it got exciting watching people climb aboard that berm.  I will never forget the Kings Royal he is talking about, I had chills hanging over the inside fence in the pits, set the camera down and just watched, amazed at his courage and skill.  Joey is one of the good guys in this sport and his Dad should be proud, they both did things the right way, hopefully others will follow their trail....

PS  I once dropped off a framed 11x14 of a shot I really liked at Joey's shop, the car was twisted and it was certainly a 'different' photo.  Joe was the only person in the shop and he asked to see the pic I brought for Joey, I got excited.  When I showed him he about had a heart attack, he picked out about a half dozen things wrong with the car and finished it with "No wonder we fired that crew chief".  It was a cool yet disappointing moment, Joe was always so REAL.  What was even more special was Joey's gramps, what a special man he was, I couldn't wait to see him at the races and give him a half dozen or more 4 x 6's, he lit up like a Christmas Tree, these are the memories I cherish from my years in the sport....

Saldana would have 100 more wins if he had more confidence in himself.

If a dude is super excited about another dude that drives, he's a "big fan" but I'm just a broken record.  Forgive me for not being super pumped up about the epitome of average common mediocrity........that being small block chevs.

Like I've said before, have your buddy Altman build the world's greatest dirt track, with the perfect surface, let him write his perfect rulebook (home built engine incentives out the ass!), and you put together your ass kicking Ford and show all those poor unfortunate Chevy's how it's done. You act like its so easy, go do it. Altman will be rich, Williams Grove and Lincoln will be out of business, fans will be leaving with bags full of free t-shirts and other promotional goodies and they'll be able to take a shit at the track in luxury toilets and of course you'll be on the front page of sprint car and midget magazine as the man who brought Chevy down.

If the Ford engine was so damn great, everyone would be running it................regardless of cost. So, get over yourself.

Plus one.  Eldora is nothing if they're not up top.  NASCAR has probably negatively effected things on other planets.  Once again just a great Saldana-quality article.  His bride is also as good as they come.
