Brian Brown – Happy Homecoming!
(Bill W) September 10, 2007 – It was a homecoming of sorts, for Grain Valley, Missouri's Brian Brown last Saturday night. Racing in front of his hometown fans at the Valley Speedway comes once in a blue moon. Brian made the most of his opportunity in roaring to a feature win with the 360 Winged Outlaw Warriors series.
Racing at home gave some of Brian's family and friends a rare glimpse of what he really does on the weekend. "There were a lot of friends and family that don't normally get to see me race," he says. "Some of my friends who have never seen me race, got to come out and enjoy it. It's a good deal, when you can come home and race, and it makes it all the more better when you can win!"
With 38 cars in the pit area, and a third row starting spot in his heat, you knew it wouldn't be an easy chore for the Doogs #21 to end up in victory lane. Brian made it look easy as he went from fifth to first by the time the field hit turn two after the green flag flew in his heat race. That set him up for the 20-lap main event.
Brown made quick work of the field, and then held off an up and comer at the checkers, scoring the hometown victory. "We started third in the feature, and we were able to take the lead (from Jay Russell) on the second lap," he says. "We checked out for awhile there, and with about five to go, the track took rubber. I got caught a little bit behind some lapped cars and (Josh) Fisher got close."
Fisher, who finished second, came from row four, and Brian has been impressed with the teenager running his first year in the 360 class. "He's pretty good at 17 years old," says Brian. "He has a lot of talent, but he's also got a lot of great people behind him. You need a good car, good motor and good support when you're first starting, and he has that. I'll be interested to see what path he takes in the next couple of years and how he progresses."

U.S. 36
The US36 Raceway near Osborn, Missouri is known for a lightning fast surface, but Friday night it may have been a little too fast for an ASCS-Midwest contest.
"They had an 1½" of rain, and they went ahead and watered it some more," says Brian. "It was just too fast. We were still turning 10 second laps in the feature. I pulled off running fifth, because I knew $400 wasn't worth tearing the car up. It is frustrating as a driver, because it's so hard to move forward when it's like that. I'm not too fond of heavy tracks anyway, and when you're not on the front row, it really stinks!"
Brian was officially scored 12th after pulling off in the feature event.
Up Next!
Brian and the Doogs plan to mix it up this weekend. If everything goes as planned, the team will take the 410 to compete with the World of Outlaws on Friday night at Heartland Park Topeka. They will race with the Winged Outlaw Warriors on Saturday at the 24 Raceway near Moberly, Missouri.

Bob Murphy in Kansas City asks: Brian, you once said that getting let go from the Casey's ride (World of Outlaws) was the best thing that ever happened to you. Do you still feel that way?
Brian answers: Yes, 100%, that taught me a lot, not just about racing, but about life. Before that I thought making the top echelon of sprint car racing was pretty easy. That deal will make you humble pretty quickly. We did have some success, but if I wouldn't have been fired, I never would have met Tim and Gina Doogs, and my career wouldn't have progressed the way that it has. That whole deal made me realize that if I'm going to make it in this sport, I'm going to have to work for it, and nothing can be given to you. It's funny to think that the best thing that's ever happened to you is getting fired, but for me, it's true!

Brown's Bits
If you are a betting man, you should probably bet on Blackjack on Saturday. Brian is 4 for 4 in winning features at the 24 Raceway in WOW action. His wins came on Sept. 26, 2004, Sept. 10, 2005, Sept. 16, 2006 and in the Gary Scott Memorial this season on May 26. Brian has never raced at Heartland Park Topeka.
