I'm only 30 but yeah yorue exactly right. That's why I wanna do it as soon as I'm financially able to. You never know when things could change or end all together. Life is short that's for sure.

I can't afford half the stuff I do, but for some reason my credit card company thinks I can....

Knoxville Nats is cool because of the event almost as much as the races... thousands of people from all over USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia who all dig sprint car racing
The whole town is all about racing for 10 days, plus Oskaloosa... & try to hit Ironman at Pevely, Mo. on the way. Last year they had POWRI midgets as well as WoO. I'm disappointed about missing that one
Check the schedules & see what else you can hit on the way. A few years ago I caught my first wingless Indiana bullring race at Haubstadt on my way to Iowa, now I'm a huge fan of that stuff....

I have an ambitious schedule planned for that week. We'll see how it goes. If everything is scheduled the same as last year my plan is:
Grove Friday
Port Dream Race Saturday
Drive through the night into Knoxville
Capitani Sunday
Front Row Challenge Monday
Knoxville- Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
Drive home Sunday.

You're doing it the right way by catching all four nights of the Nationals. I've been a Nationals regular since 1972. The first fourteen years I went for just the Friday and Saturday events, which was great, but so many fans kept telling us we were missing the best two nights...Wed and Thurs.....that we gave that a try. Have been hooked on all four nights since. The excitement of Wednesday and Thursday nights is awesome. The Friday night show is great again now that only the top sixteen are guaranteed the A Main on Saturday. And of course the atmosphere of Saturday night is unparalleled. If you haven't done so, get a good understanding of the points process for the Wed and Thurs races. It's a great format.

The Friday night change was the best to happen for quite some time. It had become basically a non qualifiers show as almost no one from that night had any chance on Sat. The scrambles weren't offereing much excitement. Now the opportunity to lock into the A has raised the level of excitement and there's more good cars running. It's as good as Wed and Thur now.

Sounds like a good plan....
But the "Drive through the night into Knoxville " could be tough. Its a long haul. A few years ago I tried something like that, left the Grove Fri. nite, drove a few hrs. to western Pa., got a motel, drove to Haubstadt, Indiana next day (had to stop & take a nap too, still burnt out). I got there exactly at 7pm as racing was starting. Iowa is a LOT further than Indiana.
Now if you have a buddy to share driving, might work... or maybe you're a lot younger than me?

Hell yes. The first year of the new Friday format, that might have been THE BEST nite of the week
That was the nite Henderson & Gravel dueled it out on the Friday A Main... great race. My memory fails me... I think Schatz won from 21st the next year, right?

You're right on. Not sure how many will remember, but years ago Friday was a good night of racing (before the Scrambles) with the non-qualifiers running for remaining positions and the Mystery Feature $5000.00 to win and the Race of States $5000.00 to win. The top drivers would race on Friday night in those events. But when the Saturday night Feature got to paying considerably more money, the top drivers stayed in the hauler rather than risk equipment. Of course that didn't set well with the fans with 22 cars locked into the A Main 20 locked into the B Main and 10 locked in to the C Main. Yet the Friday night ticket was the second highest price ticket. The new format puts creates pressure on Wed, Thurs and Friday.

I'm aware of the Wednesday and Thursday format. I think there might be a bit too much emphasis on qualifying, which can put a premium on draw position, but I get why they do it. I follow online every year. Got tired of listening and watching numbers on a screen and bought the tickets.
Yeah, I'm in my early 30's. I once drove from Harrisburg to Tulsa straight through (16.5 hours). I figure Port Royal to Knoxville should be easier, with it being closer and all.
