I must admit I miss watching Kyle Larson racing sprint cars! I have been watching him race since he started racing 360s at the age of 14 and just knew he was a great driver!  I went to a World Of Outlaws race this weekend and remember the days watching him race locally and how he would even come from the back and win! He is racing with NASCAR now making lots of money, but I wonder if he is really happy racing that kind of car. I don't really think it is his fault that he hasn't had a great season this year with getting involved in wrecks, but needless to say it must be very frustrating not winning! People say making it to NASCAR is a dream to most racers, but to a sprint car driver I think being a full time driver with the Outlaws with great sponsers is a pretty amazing goal! Sure they don't make as much money as a NASCAR driver does, but they still do pretty well for themselves!  Another thing I was thinking about was if Kyle was racing with the World of Outlaws I believe he would be winning lots of races and giving Donny Schatz a run for the championship! I know he is part car owner of  Shane Stewart's car,  but I could see them having a  2 car team! What doe everyone else think?

Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!

I wish he was still in sprints and midgets as well but I'm sure we'll get to see him back in one during NASCAR off season. I agree that he would be winning some races but I'm not sure he would be giving Schatz a run. I don't even think that Donny Schatz at Kyle Larson's point in his career can give Donny schatz a run...uh,err, what??

You ever watch lions at the zoo? You can always tell which ones were captured in the wild by the look in their eyes. The wild cat. She remembers running across the plain, the thrill of the hunt. Four hundred pounds of killing fury, locked in a box. But after a while, their eyes start to glaze over, and you can tell their soul has died.

The same thing happens to a man. The National Association of Stock Car Automobile Racing is no joke. They'll take a great young racer like Larson and make him do a 3 hour autograph signing in a Target parking lot just for the fun of it. No more cushions to ride, no more slide jobs to throw. Just a 3400 pound sedan with aero push and a crappy power to weight ratio.

Kyle Larson's soul has slowly started to die, and it's heartbreaking.

I don't think it's simply a coincidence that he had a better NASCAR year when he was still running on the dirt at the same time.  His edge is gone, but he may actually be enjoying only running on pavement.  Haven't seen any press where he says he misses running the dirt.

Unfortunately, there is way too much money in Nascar and that money allows Kyle to have a WoO car and do some other fun stuff. You can finish last every race in Nascar for a year and be a millionaire at the end of the season. J.J. Yeley hasn't done diddley squat in Nascar but he's still cashing those huge checks. Souls may be sold but the lifestyle these guys get used to with the big money trumps running a dirt car full time. Tony Stewart hasn't seemed all that happy to me for a long time and that's why he ran the dirt to have fun. He's said that before. He wouldn't own Eldora, have a jet and a huge spread or own the All-Stars if he hadn't made the big money in Nascar. I think the big money is one reason the racing is basically non-existent in Nascar as many guys aren't going to put their butt on the line and really try to win races or finish as high as possible when they can finish 8th or 20th and still live like a king. Just my opinion and not worth much.

Simply qualifying for the Daytona 500 and finishing 43rd probably pays more than what Donny Donut made for winning the Knoxville nationals.   It's not rocket science as to why Kyle chose Nascrap.   You can probably add Smoke to that list.   Tony doesn't have 100 million smackers in his bank account from running sprint cars..... but I'd bet if you'd ask him what he'd rather drive on a regular basis it wouldnt be what made his wallet fatter than most.

I agree.  Nicely done.  I do pray that he can regain his winning ways.  Unfortunately, he made a hasty decision...not to go to NASCAR that early...but to sign with that team.   They are absolutely terrible.  Proof?  He is going to tracks that he finished top 3 in last year and not cracking the top 20.  That's without mechanical issues.  Then, when he does get up front, he either has a mechanical issue or his crew loses him 4 spots on the next pit stop.  Then 5.  Then 7.   Get the picture.

Sad to watch this happen... no doubt about it.

I think this might be the best post I've ever read on a messageboard. Very creative and 1000% true. NASCAR is bullshit. In my opinion, its not even racing and I hate the fact that young sprint car stars such as Larson, Rico and Bell are being chewed up by these driver development machines and turned into drones who only use about 20% of their God given talent on “race” day and know how to do nothing other than smile for the camera, drink their official soft drink at the perfect time and act like the like dipshit Mikey Waltrip when he walks down lit road spilling tacos all over their cars. I'd rather go sit at an empty dirt track and use my imagination than sit in front of my TV watching that fake bullshit while listening to ol' dee-dubya make a complete mokery of the English language and if it weren't for the millions and millions they're gonna make to go out and hot laps shit boxes every Sunday, I'll bet they'd feel the same. I don't blame them one bit for going where the money is but it sure does suck for us fans.

Great post!

I'm sure making a couple of million a year one day and having a couple hundred million people around the world knowing your name takes some of the edge off of having to drive sleds for a living. Stewart has always acted like he hated it and even he continues to punch the clock. Larson is probably more concerned with getting his first NASCAR win before Rico right now.

Thats intense

Money talks

But who knows, you really would have to ask Kyle how he feels (tho he probably couldn't afford to tell the truth....)

Nice analogy Sapman, you're writing like the good ol' days from that other message board (forget it's name).  Heck, there may have only been 3 of us but there was some good stuff on it, I miss it a bunch, kind of like this place, lol....

I remember listening to Kyle Larson speak at the Hall of Fame two years ago during the Knoxville Nationals and he said that he thought it is a very real possibility for him to become a full-time World of Outlaws driver after he retires from NASCAR. We'll have to wait a long time to find out if that actually happens though and his mind may have changed since he made those comments. Kinser and Swindell are still racing sprint cars at the age of 60 so I don't see why Larson couldn't.

Way to follow up the funniest post ever with the 2nd funniest ever.  Ain't that the truth with Mikey Waltrip?  His brother started all of the nonsense--now Mikey is going to take it to another level.  For 14 years now, if  I turn on a Nascar race in the first half of the season (because there is absolutely nothing to do) I have to mute the TV at the start of the race so I don't hear Boogity boogity boogity.  Joke

it appears that the 14 mil he has won in the last two years is a statement.  the comment he made liking f1 and what it would bring to be a teammate of louis hamilton makes me wonder. he stated, that's where the real money  is...

we all know and understand where his roots are...i  believe he is in the third year of thecontract with ganassi, two to go and should be interesting to watch it play out and the choices he will be making...

I am not picking on any single person. But why does anyone think that it is ok to tell Kyle Larson what he should be doing?  This kid had the chance to make LIFE CHANGING MONEY in only a few short years.  The kind of money Steve, Sammy, Donny, you and me work 20-30 years to see, if ever. Oh and all the while he's giving back to the sport that he and all of us enjoy.

IMO, its time to stop boo hooing about not getting to watch Smoke and Larson drive.  Why don't we focus on what they are doing for the sport? After all it is their money, time and lives we are trying to run.

Gibbons is a bad man, just like Fury.
