Sprints on Dirt are on to something , something that has to give , as teams can't keep going this way .

I hope it works out well for them.  It will  be interesting next year to see what size engines do well.  This will be alot like it was in 1960 and 1970 s.  They had narrower tires that were hard and that was all that was available.  The engines were what ever you decided to try with no cube rules.  Good luck.

I commend SOD on what their doing, but think they are wrong in not having a weight rule.At the very least use the current 410 minimum weight, your not leaving any current cars out by doing that. But sure dont underestimate racers to take advantage of any leeway,it's just the nature of the game.

I hope they can have a big draw of 410's and survive....but their guys with only 360's are going to hurt from this

This is exactly what is wrong with sprint car racing today. groups and orginzations changing tactics along with promoters adding new classes and so on. The promoters in my opinion are the ones dictating purses along with the rules, think about it, the promoters are only willing to pay x amount of dollars so that inturn has the series scrambling to keep cars in that series, and then the promoter say we are going to run a cheeper series of sprint cars, 305 cars, crate motor car, ect............. If the promoters would work on paying more purse wise and strengthining the series they would benifit in the long run. Its like cutting a piece of pie, the more cut the smaller the pieces, and in sprint car terms the more classes the smaller the car counts. In my opinion SOD is going to isolate itself, I dont see thier car count increasing. No cars from the NRA will be competing in their series, they may even loose some cars to that series. the sod cars wont be competing in other series, the people who want to run that series will have to buy rear rims and tires to run the series, This SOD series just took three steps backwards.........................................................................

I disagree. Already a lot of guys that run 305's considering running the series. Costs will go way down when you only need two tires. Only tracks they will struggle at are the half miles, which they most likely wouldnt run.

Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate that SoD is trying something new. I think that is awesome. But after reading the article I am confused. They are saying that there is no weight limit rule but there are requirements. If you don't meet those requirement you may be banned. Isn't that what a rule is?

I am really anxious to see how this works for them. It will probably evolve into some new rules but I applaud them for taking a chance.

The way I understood it is there is no flat weight rule, however, if you start shaving weight and start compromising safety then there will be consequences.

I do question the weight rule, but by keeping it open, it will sorta deter teams from trying to cram a big block in the car, but also help spark ingenuity.   However in the day and age where you can essentially buy everything, how many teams will invest in the titanium bolts even more and also the titanium components for rotating weight?  But hey somebody needs to do something different.

I think it is kind of funny as people get on HH all the time and complain how the racing is today locked down and expensive and here you have a group that is actually trying to make a change to have better racing at a cheaper cost. People have stated guys will have to buy tires to run a SOD show, face it any place a guy shows up he is going to have to buy tires, so no change there. Plus with the new SOD tires there is only 1 size RR and 1 size LR. Tires can be mounted on the same wheels used today, no need to buy new wheels/rims.

The thought behind the change is you can have all the horsepower in the world but if you can get it to the ground with the small tires it will even out the 410's vs 360's. I know many people have said it will hurt car count but from what I have heard there are many guys with cars in the garage that are planning on racing next year because they feel it will come down to driver instead of guys spending 40 grand on a brand new ASCS 360. Right now there is a major difference in the haves and have nots in SOD in the motor department. Plus guys with old 410's can run or buy one for under 10 grand and go racing. If you look at the car counts for SOD they have been on a downward slide over the past 10 years and the leadership felt it was time to do something different. I guess time will tell if they are successful.
