This is actually fairly common--most places have a limited number of seats available, and therefore only sell THAT number of tickets. If people who purchase pit passes take up seats not counted as "sold" at the ticket booth, a large crowd results in a lack of available seats. (Having said that, MOST tracks let you purchase a reserved seat (or general admission), THEN "upgrade" to include a pit pass at the pit gate. Many WoO events offer a FREE "upgrade" when purchasing a reserved seat in advance.)

I can understand that. My thought was weekly racing and there are always plenty of empty seats at our local shows. You probably never see that situation as you guys play to a packed house.

Wow! The ignorance on this site still amazes me! I guess some people have never been to a big race with an expected sell out crowd. The entire goal of a promoter is to sell out the grandstand. I do like the idea of a pit pass upgrade, but a pit pass alone certainly doesn't entitle you to a grandstand seat or they would have to issue a seat number to every pit pass and sell that many less tickets to the grandstand. Go to the Chili Bowl and see if your pit pass gets you a seat in the grandstand. Lol

I rarely sit in the stands and usually only go into the grandstand area to take photos from different vantage points. I can't recall a race up here at the Minnesota and western Wisconsin tracks I frequent where I haven't been able to do that. I don't think that's ignorance so much as location, location, location. Our promoters would be very pleased if people with pit passes taking seats in the stands was something they had to concern themselves with.

I thought someone would have posted this already but I guess it's gotta be me. This is actually NOT a new policy at Calistoga. As far back as I can remember which stretches from the mid '80's through the '90's Calistoga was the ONLY track on the NARC / Golden State tour where a pit pass would not get you into the stands. I don't know what the reason was and it might have changed since the fair manager during that period retired but that's the way it always was. If it changed at any point and why it changed back to the way they had it last weekend I have no idea but it is far from a "new" policy.
