Lasoski Gets Victory with Late Pass at Angell Park Speedway!

by Bill Wright

Knoxville, IA, August 30, 2015 – Danny Lasoski used a late restart to slide by Brad Loyet and take his ninth FVP National Sprint League feature of the year Sunday night at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.  The Dover, Missouri driver won the 30-lap event that was co-sanctioned with the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Series and attracted a 42-car field in the first ever clash between the two series.

Loyet shot out from his pole position to start the main event ahead of Tim Kaeding and Lasoski. Lynton Jeffrey, who started inside row two, lost his nose wing early in the main event and the debris high in turn one brought a caution with five laps in the books.

Loyet led Kaeding, Lasoski, Bill Balog and Bryan Clauson back to green flag racing.  Loyet pulled away from the field, entering lapped traffic on lap ten.  Meanwhile, Kaeding, Lasoski, Balog, Clauson and Ian Madsen raced through traffic nose to tail in exciting fashion in front of another large crowd that was challenged to stay seated.  With 17 laps recorded, Loyet nearly made contact with the lapped car of Matt Juhl.  Juhl tagged the wall and tipped over in turn four, bringing the only red flag of the night.

A cushion that had six lapped cars between Loyet and Kaeding was gone on the restart.  Lasoski dove under Kaeding to take second when the green flag flew.  Meanwhile, Clauson and Balog exchanged the fourth position.  One more caution came out on lap 21.  A chain reaction involving Lynton Jeffrey and Mike Reinke saw Austin McCarl tangled up as well.

Loyet led Lasoski, Kaeding, Clauson and Balog in a nine lap Dash to the checkers.  Lasoski used his sliding move in one and two again, and shot to the lead.  He would pull away to win over Loyet, Kaeding, Balog and Clauson.  Madsen, Logan Forler, Terry McCarl, Brian Brown and Blake Nimee rounded out the top ten.

Balog set a new track record in qualifying, coming out 39th in the order.  He turned a lap of 11.985 seconds on the 1/3-mile oval.  Clauson and Lasoski also joined him under the old record set just one week ago by Jordan Goldesberry.  Austin McCarl, Terry McCarl, Madsen and Bill Rose won heat races.  Mike Reinke won the B main.

“We have a great team,” said Lasoski in Victory Lane.  “Guy Forbrook has put together a stellar team with Pete, Nate, Brady and Asa.  Tod Quiring made this possible.  I’d like to thank the fans for coming out.  I’d never been here, but I’d sure like to come back!  We just want to keep going.  The more we race together the better off we are.”

“That motor’s about 300 degrees right now,” said Loyet.  “I about melted it down trying to win that thing.  It was great to come back to Angell Park.  I love this place.  I thought we had that one in the bag…lapped traffic, we were getting through there like crazy.  It just wasn’t meant to be tonight. We’ll come back and try to get another win.”

“We didn’t have the forward drive we needed,” said Kaeding.  “I’m happy.  I would have rather won. Celebrating my birthday tomorrow…it would have been a way better way to do it.  I’ve got to thank John Folkens from Folkens Brothers, DJ Dammer…everybody that helps out with that 3 car. Everyone is worn out.”

The FVP National Sprint League’s next event will be the $130,000 Jackson Nationals at the Jackson Speedway in Minnesota, Friday, September 4 and Saturday, September 5.  For more information on the FVP National Sprint League, visit www.NationalSprintLeague.com!

Whiny Brat Loyet got beat with 2 to go at LaSalle Saturday night after leading the A and had the same thing happen at Angell Park.  Those two fiishes made my weekend.....

The only thing I found funny is Sinclair preaches every week at an IRA show stay nose to tail till you hit the cone but on both restarts that Lasoski made his passes he went high in turn 4 not following the leader and got a run to make the dive and slide work in 1-2 by getting a big time run. Guess they bit their tonge on calling a jump for not staying in line IMO.

I haven't seen any video but from my perspective, what Lasoski did was brilliant.  Sure, he may have gone higher in 4 in anticipation but I would guess they were nose to tail at the CONE and Lasoski had enough momentum that there was no way Loyet could stop him, as he did his crossover from high to low.  I do not know the exact rule, so someone please clarify.  It looked great to me.....

Honestly the biggest joke of this whole show is the lack of points IRA guys get in their chase for the IRA championship. You run in the top 10 of a large touring series show co-sanctioned with your series and the guy who finishes in the top 10 gets a maximum of 16 more points than someone who doesn't even turn a lap the whole night and just shows up. All IRA drivers received 100 show up points, and the highest placing car in the feature gets a maximum of 16 additional points.

As far as the racing, it was the best racing in heats that I have seen with winged cars all year. The crowd was MASSIVE! And in my opinion the feature racing did not disappaoint either. Still one of my favorite places to watch a winged show at. I hope the Outlaws show up next year, and NSL comes back as well

Whining about what? Changing the rules?  He should have won. That made you're weekend?  Go figure.

They shouldn't have gotten any points.   Like they weren't even there.

After walking through the pits after the races and talking to a few drivers, it seems as if this point structure was first revealed to the drivers that night. Presumably to soften the blow to championship contender Ben Schmidt, who went thru 2 motors the previous night at LaSalle, and was prepared to run Sunday in a non competive car. This was basically a way for him to hit the track, collect 100 points, and not lose much ground the rest of the night, even if Bill Rose had won the main. Guarantees a close championship battle, and thats good for business... just bs for everyone else.

Whining about what? Changing the rules?  He should have won. That made you're weekend?  Go figure.

You are to stupid to even be able to comprehend what I was saying. Should have won but didn't.

Funny thing is this was done for the All Stars show at Wilmot as well. Blake Nimee has run really well when the big competition has come to town (5th against the All Stars, and driving from 17th to 10th with NSL), and he has gotten almost nothing for his efforts towards the championship with IRA. Aka he has gotten almost no recognition from the IRA for representing them well against large competition. There just seems to be no incentive to run well against larger sanctioning bodies

Real race cars don't have fenders...

Agreed. Thats why alot of cars didnt start the B, depending on their starting spot. Why put the valuable extra laps on your motor at this time of the year, for something that doesnt pay off in the big picture? I know the competitor side of me would be run every lap you can, however the business side for a small operation would say.... start and park in the main, or if you dont transfer out of the heat and start outside the 4th row in the B, in the trailer she goes. Blake had a great run Sunday, and its a great experiance for him and his team... but with the minimal impact on his point situation, all it did was put uneeded laps on his equipment, heading down the home stretch.

Whiny Brat Loyet got beat with 2 to go at LaSalle Saturday night after leading the A and had the same thing happen at Angell Park.  Those two fiishes made my weekend.....

Loyet was lucky to even finish that race at all.  He was the cause of the first caution, running Juhl over the cushion and into the turn 4 wall.  If it wasn't for Juhl taking evasive action to avoid hitting Loyet, they both would have ended upside down. Props to Juhl for sacrificing his car so that two cars weren't destroyed - all because Loyet was completely reckless.

This kid is going to be a STAR soon and the IRA should get behind him.  Due to some experimenting, he found himself running 10th Saturday night and then he got it figured out and came in 6th.  He is a hard charger, he races clean, and is very fan friendly.  All the qualities of a future champion.

Imagine the IRA will use the same point structure for the Cedar Lake NSL/IRA show. IRA is run as a club so I recommend all drivers and owners attend the rules meetings in the off-season and put your input in for how points are awarded in the future for co-sactioned shows. I can see both sides of the debate.

Isn't it a pretty common thing to see a series just do show up points anytime a co-sanction or special event alters their standard format or tire rule or anything? Last I knew the World of Outlaws made the Kings Royal and the Knoxville Nationals show up points only due to the formats being so different than their typical program. Most any time 2 series of similar stature with slightly different tire rules or wing rules or format differences run together somebody is going to have to compromise on what they normally run or how they normally qualify/line up and doing some type of show up points deal tends to be the best way to keep your regulars happy.

Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.
