USAC Sprints and POWERi Midgets Friday Night at 81 Speedway!

Park City, Kansas – August 17, 2015 - 81 Speedway is all set to host the 3rd annual “Freedom Tour” this coming Friday night (August 21) featuring the “wingless” USAC Southwest Sprint Car Series and the POWERi West midget series as they are the headliners for the second annual Harold Leep Memorial at the Park City, Kansas famed dirt track.

It will also kick off the first of two night’s of dirt track racing at the speedway as the annual “Wix Filters/ Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts” weekend is now upon us.

The event will be race number two on the four race tour which will see stops at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Oklahoma on Wednesday night, Creek County Speedway in Kellyville, Oklahoma (Thursday night) and wrap up at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kansas on Saturday night. Each race pays $2500 to win and $250 just to start the night’s feature finale.

Among the USAC Southwest Sprint Car touring regulars who will make the trip from the Arizona and New Mexico areas include current series point leader R.J. Johnson, Charles Davis, Jr., Matt Rossi, Sihon Deskins, Mike Martin, Mike Bonneau, Chris Bonneau, Tye Mihocko, Dennis Giles, Steve Sussex and Josh Hodges.

Non-touring regulars that will be making an appearance include two-time “Freedom Tour” winner Zeihl, Fort Worth Texas driver Patrick Stasa, Harli White, Michelle Decker, Koby Barksdale, Oklahoma’s Danny Smith and Wyatt Burks. Close to thirty drivers from at least five states are once again expected to compete.

Last year it was Arizona’s Martin picking up the victory while New Mexico veteran Zeihl took home the victory in 2013.

With identical rules to the local ASCS and NCRA contenders minus the wings, a number of local and regional stars are expected to defend “home” turf against the invading forces over the course of the four race mini-series.

To add to the excitement of non-wing sprint car racing, the ever popular midgets of the POWERi West series will also be in competition. A tight point’s battle between Arlington, Texas driver Anton Hernandez and “The Owasso Outlaw” Ty Hulsey will continue for the series with a fast closing Matt Sherrell making up ground as the series is close to wrapping up their 2015 race season. Other stand out drivers scheduled include; Bakersfield, California's Shannon McQueen, Michelle Decker, Hannah Adair, Kyle Keeler, Cody Brewer and AJ Burns in the Sooner 1 midget. The series is expecting between 25-30 midgets for their 81 Speedway appearance.

Gates will open at 5:30 PM with racing slated for a 7:30 PM start time. Grandstand admission Friday night’s second annual “Harold Leep Memorial: for adults are $15 and just $5 for kids with all pit passes just $30.

81 Speedway is located north of Wichita on I-135 to exit 16, then .7 mile west on 77th St. in Park City. For more race and ticket information contact the 81 Speedway office (316) 755-1781 or check out their official website www.81speedway.org.
