Last night was my first trip to I-55 Raceway. It did not disappoint in regards to being a very racey track. The sliders on that track were absolutely breath taking. My question is about the dusting that the fans took. Is this normal? I thought maybe we were fighting a bad cross wind, but the flags did not seem to be moving at all. It has been quite a while since I have worn that much of the track home with me. Can I expect this the next time that I come back or was this a one time occurance?
Thanks
Jon R

Last time I was there as a fan in the stands I recall cleaning black dirt out of my ears for a couple of days or so .. thinking some of it is still stuck in my brain somewhere...

its been awhile since been down there, but they usually rework track before a-main and it cuts down on dust. but the track does get dusty and many people who attend pevely regularly bring goggles or wrap around glasses. if you sit toward turns 1 or 3 when the cars get to end of straightaway they tend to dump all dirt in those areas . if you go back try to get middle of stands on frontstretch or backstretch up higher.

It is usually dusty and dirty, but the racing is usually fantastic. If the racing is good, I'll endure all the dirt they can throw my way. The first time I went there was one of those very hot and very humid nights in which you sweat just sitting there. Put layers of dirt on top of the sweat, and we were basically muddy when we left. It was worth it, though. It was one of the best races I've ever seen. I had friends, once, stop at a car wash after the races there, strip down to their underwear, and take turns hosing one another down for the trip home. Like I said, it's worth it, though. The races there are almost always fantastic.

I sat in section C. About 12 rows up, about 20 seats to the left of the flagman. Basically, I was in the middle section of the stands. I am used to seeing safety glasses at the track, and always bring a pair in with me. However, when I saw safety goggles at the track, I thought it might get a little dusty. While it looked silly, the guy with a bandana wraped around his face probalby had the correct idea.
Thanks

Seems like most tracks have some sweet spot where the dust isn't as bad. Anyone got a suggestion for pevely?

I've always had the best luck sitting high in the newer backstretch stand at Pevely. If there's wind at Pevely, my experience has shown it comes from the northeast a lot of times. Went to the Outlaws race there back in April and took very little dirt home with me. Sat in the same place for the Friday night show this past week and got a bit dirtier, but not like it is on the front stretch. Even with no wind it always seems to be worse towards turn 1 as another poster already mentioned. Hope you come back soon! I-55 is my "home" track and consitently puts on a great show. Don't plan on getting out of there before 11 though...

Right on. Message me on ehre if you want, it's a great track and you won't be dissapointed! Really hope they do it like they did this year and have the Powri Midgets again. the track is just a bit too big for them but the racing is pretty good. As long as they don't run the modifieds during the show it's great. I liked how they did that this year: modifieds raced their heats through to the B main before the sprint cars/midgets. Then the only modified race during the main show was the A. Got the event finished much more efficiently.

I went to the Ironman for the first time (not first time to Pevely though) -- and it was definitely a good time! The only thing I would change would be to have them put a little more water on from the beginining (after mods ran heats and B in the afternoon sun) -- and run the midget A last before they re-worked the track (instead of the mods). I was really excited to see the midgets run there, and truthfully, was a pretty big factor in deciding to go. It was a little disappointing to see a narrow, hammer down track for them in the feature... could've been much, much better. As for the original posted, I sat in Section C as well (row 11) - and got sand-blasted with dirt all night long! I remember it being somewhat dirty in the past, but not that crazy! The stands sit right on top of the track, which is good and bad.. goggles are a necessity!

Always sit at the top of section A. Fri night didn't even need a hat it was so dust free. Have seen both extremes there but track is always fast and the dust is worth it.

What was everybody's take on the WOO Sprint car that wrecked in three during qualifiying after his wing failed betwee 1 and 2. Should the track thrown the yelllow to prevent him from wrecking his car? It was pretty clear to everyone that there was no way he was going to make the corner with the wing in the condition it was in.
