Dusty Zomer Dominant in First FVP National Sprint League Win at Jackson!
by Bill Wright

Jackson, MN, July 23, 2015 – Dusty Zomer became the sixth different winner in as many events for the FVP National Sprint League when he captured the feature victory at the Jackson Speedway in Minnesota Thursday night.  The Sioux Falls, South Dakota driver’s win during the Jackson County Fair race supported by Abdo, Eick & Meyers LLP was his first with the series, making Thursday the fourth straight NSL event with a new winner.

Zomer shot out immediately in the 25-lap main event ahead of pole-sitter, Lynton Jeffrey and Bryan Clauson.  The pilot of the Todd and Susan LaHaise #82 was a rocket and by lap five, had opened up almost a three second lead on Jeffrey.

On lap eight, Clauson used the low side of turn two to jet by Jeffrey for second.  Three laps later, Dakota Hendrickson slowed high in turn two to bring a caution flag.  Zomer led Clauson, Bill Balog who had captured third, Jeffey and Brian Brown back to green.

Zomer’s domination continued as he got back into lapped traffic.  Meanwhile, a battle emerged between Clauson, Balog and Danny Lasoski, who had taken over fourth.  That trio put on an entertaining battle for position.  One last caution came out with two laps to go for Logan Forler, who stopped in turn one.

Zomer was never threatened, pulling away for his first FVP National Sprint League win.  Clauson went to the cushion in one and two to try to make a bid for the lead.  Balog shot under him to claim second.  Following the lead trio were Lasoski and Jeffrey.  Ian Madsen, Craig Dollansky, Tim Kaeding, Mark Dobmeier and KSE hard-charger, Terry McCarl, rounded out the top ten.  Brown was running sixth on the final restart, but had a tire go down as he faded to twelfth.

Zomer set quick time over the field.  Madsen, Dobmeier and Tasker Phillips won heat races.  Sprint Car Racing on Facebook donated $50 to the third place car of Clauson.

“The car was really good,” said Zomer in Victory Lane.  “My hat’s off to my crew chief, Greg McCormick.  He gave me a great car.  He worked his butt off this week.  We missed a couple shows, but we wanted to come in here nice and strong.  We did that.  We’ve been so close to getting a win in this NSL deal.  It feels really good to get a win.  We wanted to get out front and build some speed…get out as far as possible.  I’m really happy for the team.  I can’t thank Todd and Susan LaHaise enough.  It’s a blast.  Hopefully, we can keep this momentum up.”

“Speedweek has been good to us,” said Balog, who also picked up a win Tuesday in Britt, Iowa. “We’ve learned a lot in a short amount of time.  We saw we were close in hot laps to having the speed we needed.  It feels good to finish second.  We’re not really big track guys.”

“We kind of felt like we had one shot to win it and left the door open,” said Clauson of the last restart.  “We’re hungry for a win.  We’ve ran on the podium a few times here.  We ran pretty well. We probably could have putted the bottom and ran second, but we wanted to go for the win.”

The FVP National Sprint League will compete at Huset’s Speedway near Brandon, South Dakota this Sunday, July 26.  For more information on the FVP National Sprint League, visitwww.NationalSprintLeague.com!

Witnessed the night first hand....Jackson is going to be a fantastic facility when Tod Quiring is done renovating! It is an awesome racing surface after the changes that have already been made and the lighting is fantastic. Dusty was FAST all night and earned the win. The top 6 or 7 NSL drivers are all on top of their games and on any given night they are all a threat.  They are so close that reeling in each other is a tough thing to do. Plus....one of the very best Features I've seen in a long time for any division run last night by the 360 class! A real battle with the top 4 and 5 throughout the entire 20 laps, unfortunatley interrupted with a red flag as two of the cars in the hunt tangled and flipped out of the park with just a couple laps remaining. No one hurt which was great, but some anger shown as a result of the crash. Good car count also with the NSL for a week night race, and a great crowd which is pretty standard at Jackson for a sprint car event.

That was already the second time this week a Phillips brother blatantly drove over a car heading into turn one.

It's one thing to junk and wreck your own stuff, but when it's costing others thousands in money wrecking their crap it might be time to face the music. And that musical song sounds a lot like, "You suck at controlling your sprint car."

And yes, Zomer smoked them all night long. They are finding a nice chemistry heading into the Nationals. Congrats DZ.

I wasn't there and haven't seen any video. Are you guys saying the track didn't rubber up and eat tires?

This isn't the Jackson Track of the old.  I watched guys run 3 lanes well all night.  Great Track prep and great racing.  Really looking forward to what this track is starting to become.  Can't say if it took rubber as I was watching on Raceshift but it sure held up nice.

SOP for Tasker. Been doing that ever since he moved up from 305 to a 360. He is one of those guys that does not think he is going fast unless he is WFO. Hold it wide open & steer is how he drives, no matter what the situation is.

thats what happens when your family has more money than the drivers have talent, if i had half the money they have spent on those 3 boys over the years in a sprint car i would or retired a long time ago

Same thing I seen Blazer. Excellent racing on a perfect surface. Kudos to the track prep crew. If there's one thing Tod shouldn't mess with, it's the concessions!  Best in the business!

I was at Jackson last night too, 180mi trip each way....late bleepin night & early wakeup but the lightning show on the drive home was excellent.   Racing was great, especially the 360 feature as stated before.  The top four were really going at it, crazy fun stuff.  Greg Baker must have been laughing in his car on the Red because he just sat back in 5th & waited for the shenanigans to happen.  It was Sawyer Phillips who punted Scott Winters, not Tasker.  You could see it coming once Sawyer fell out of the lead.

Whats up with Tmac in qualifying?  He seems to be struggling lately.  Same with Dobmeier, who is really struggling in TT's.

My only complaint with Jackson is they need more than one gate for fans to get in & out.  Overall, its really becoming a great facility.

I made the remark to our group during a yellow in the 360 Feature that "who ever purchased the SpeedShift PPV tonight got there money's worth!" The track held up fine. Everybody was fast but good racing for position in the 410 Feature, and with Kaeding coming from 16th to 8th and McCarl from 19th to 10th (I believe)...there was action to watch all through the field. 1&2 were best on the bottom and 3&4 were best from the top, but also 3&4 good on the bottom and the middle. Kudos to Clausen for trying high in 1&2 on the last lap in an attempt to get a shot at Zomer. He had to know that if it didn't work he would drop to 3rd...but that's what racers will do...."you can't get by them where they're running' as they say.

Excellent to hear that the surface was good. That makes me happy even though I'm 2000 miles away now. I've always felt that the place was holding a lot of potential but unfortunately it rarley produced a good race do to the surface. Bravo to track prep crew.
