Davis Does It to ASCS Canyon Region Again at Manzanita
by Lonnie Wheatley

PHOENIX, Ariz. (September 2, 2007) – "Chargin'" Charles Davis, Jr., posted his second consecutive American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region feature victory by wiring the field in Sunday night's 25-lapper atop Manzanita Speedway's 1/3-mile clay oval.

But a week after rallying from the tail of the field to snare the victory, this time Davis had an easier time of it as he started from the pole after winning the Pole Dash in the makeup event of Saturday night's rainout.

Davis outgunned fellow front row starter Chris Bonneau for the point at the drop of the green flag and led throughout to notch his second win in as many starts aboard Jim Massey's No. 50 DRC.

Davis was chased to the line by 16-year-old Michael Colegrove, with R.J. Johnson charging through the field from 18th to snare the show position. Matt Rossi was fourth with Chad Boat rounding out the top five.

After running third much of the way, current ASCS Canyon Region points leader Jeremy Sherman slipped back to sixth in the final rounds with 19th-starter Andrew Reinbold, Mike Leslie, Bob Ream, Jr., and Bobby Taylor completing the top ten.

Boat, Taylor, Mike Martin and Nick Aiuto topped heat race action, with Ream winning the "B" Main.

The red flag flew just once during the night, with Josh Pelkey flipping on the opening round of the feature. Pelkey was uninjured.
