Mark Dobmeier – Solid Weekend on the Road!
(Bill W) May 12, 2015 – The level of competition was tough, but “Dynamite” Mark Dobmeier and the Jimco Motorsports #13 team was on their game last weekend. In two FVP National Sprint League events, they came home with a fourth and sixth place finish at Eagle Raceway in Nebraska and Knoxville Raceway in Iowa respectively. As the new team continues to jell, the NSL heads to Jacksonville Speedway in Illinois this Friday night for the $5,000 to win “Sprints Gone Wild” event. On Saturday, the team will head to Knoxville, before Huset’s Speedway near Brandon, South Dakota tries to get their opener in on Sunday.
With limited experience on the 1/3-mile high-banked Eagle Raceway, Mark timed in 12th quick amongst the 30-car field and went from fourth to second in his heat. “Eagle is a fun, good, racy track,” he says. “It had been awhile since we’d been there. Since they ran 410’s last.”
After making the redraw, he would start outside row four for the main event. “We were able to sneak by and make the pill draw there as the last guy in,” says Mark. “My typical pill drawing skills came into play right away and we drew the eight. We had a great car. We kind of set up for the end of the feature.”
The car came in perfectly just as the 30-lap race was ending. Still, a solid run from eighth to fourth was the result. “We misjudged it a little bit,” says Mark. “We really weren’t racing around until the last five laps. We got shaking a little and passed a couple of guys at the very end. Towards the end, we had some lapped cars that we could take advantage of and the track widened out so you could move around on it. We were happy with fourth.”
The new team’s first test at the Knoxville Raceway was up next on Saturday. Mark would time in 11th quick in the 38-car field. “It wasn’t great, but it was nothing to frown about either,” he says. “We were eleventh quick there, and we were able to get up to third in the heat (from fourth). We weren’t very good there, but we have this new deal put together and we’re getting everything ironed out.”
The new team clicked for the feature and Mark drove from 11th to sixth. “We had a great car in the feature,” he says. “The track was a little bit choppy. One and two was pretty dry, but three and four had some moisture in it. I would say it was an unusual track for Knoxville. At the same time, there was room that we could move up and get by some cars.”
Mark should be at home Friday on “America’s Baddest Bullring”. “We’re excited to get back to the track,” he says. “I’ve never been to Jacksonville, but I hear it’s a little ¼-mile track. We’ve had success on those types of tracks, so we’re looking forward to getting down there.”
