Jerry Parrish had a great take on the tires.
"I didn't see a big problem when we had to put on the 16" (wide right rear tire) for the ASCS show. I think 16" is a move in the right direction, but it plain and simply is not enough. The tire companies will probably freak out on this, but I believe we need to cut the left rear width back to around 12" to help take some of the drive out of the car. Less tire, less power needed." - Jeff Swindell
They don't even know how to spell sprint car

Less width on the left rear seems to be the track. But I think Paul McMahan also had a good point about the track prep in his interview.

It will be interesting to see if Hoosier or anyone looks into tire width, etc., down the road.

Track Prep is the problem! Tires... everyone is on the same ones so running away from another is not the tire. Parrish is pissed because his car only runs the top and there is NO cushion for him to do that!

The tires are so good that the cars are locked down. That makes it more difficult to catch someone and pass.

The tires are too good? People have short memories or was not around this awesome motorsport at that time.
1.tires use to be a lot better and teams had more choices.
2. wings use to be a lot better too .
3. Every team is more closely in performance than before...
4. Hodnet raced from his 12th starting position at Williams Grove to 4th: passing.
5. the left rear and right rear use to be wider than now..

Only part of the five statements are true.
1) Tires weren't better through the 80s and 90s. They were harder and narrower, cars were loose. Per Dewease and others, he can run a left rear 50 laps now instead of 25.
2) I never said the racing was terrible. There are nights it is fine. There are nights it's not. I don't think it is as big a problem as other people. But a lot of fans think it is, so I've looked at it.
3) The left and right rear aren't as wide as they were, but they are still wider than before a tire rule. Could make them a little narrower.
Posting a story on this now.

Didn't see any problem with catching & passing at Knoxville Saturday night. Winner started 6, 2nd started 8, 4th started 10, 5th started 16. I could go on. Wayne Johnson had a good lead on the Dude but Dude caught and passed him. I believe the rear tires used were the same width as those used in Pa. But track prep was great, as usual.
How can some races be good and others not if is the tires? If it is the tires the percentage should be bad racing 80% of the time. I promise you if you come to Knoxville every week you will see GOOD racing 80% of the time and probably more than that. So why do not these too wide tires cause poor racing at Knoxville?

Track prep is a huge part of the equation. Port Royal has pretty much nailed it with track prep every week and the racing has been great.
