I first want to thank everyone at the track for pulling off the race after the monster rainstorms the days before.  To only be an hour off the posted scheduled times was amazing.

I am not sure the condition of the backstrech pits when they started the day, but the depth of the ruts told how iffy it was when the first haulers went in there. Paving those pits would be very expensive, but so are cancelling shows because of those same pits everytime it rains there.

I turned onto Lawton road about 5:20 and just crossed the tracks when it came to a standstill backed up several miles. I pulled into an almost full parking lot about 5:45 and had purchased my ticket right at 6pm.  About 30 min later the lot was full and they were parking in the field across the road.  Not sure I have seen that big of a crowd there in years.

Racing was pretty good, lots of follow the leader heats.  The draw was a disappointment putting Shatz on the front row, but having Stewart next to him was a good sign and those two did not disappoint in the feature.  Lots of dicing between those two when they got in traffic and the outside groove finally came in making it even better.  Stewart would gain several car lengths in 3-4 and Donnie would take them back going uphill out of turn 2. Not alot of movement for most of the others in the feature, no one made a run though the pack. Sides has gone from backmarker to a being right in the hunt. The KKR cars were horrible and Hirst and Veal were nothing special in thier first nights out.  I am sure both will improve in time.  I saw Jason Johnson and he looked really uncomfortable in his back brace.

I forget the speed the 410s carry into turn 3 at the Bowl, very noticable over the ASCS races I have attended there.

My $35 was well spent...  again a big thank you for not cancelling the show.

I'm very glad they got the show in.   I finally got to see some racing.    As far as your comments about freight train heats, every show at Devils Bowl is like that.   Any racing you're going to see is likely over by turn three of the first lap and the finishing order generally won't change after that.     As far as the speeds go, I don't agree.   I see very little difference between the WoO and ASCS there.     The quick time was 14.09 by Shane Stewart.   I know for a fact that TBJ turned a 14.18 during an ASCS heat last year, and it's been quite common for ASCS cars to turn 14.3 second laps.    Whatever you're noticing, it's not translating to much of anything on the stopwatch.

I enjoyed the show, but I would have just as soon paid $10 less and see a higher car count.

Never been to the Devils Bowl but I do know the difference in speed between a 360 and410 is very visble at Knoxville. Can't base the comparison on lap times unless they are on the track back to back. There are nights at Knoxville where the 360s time first and the track changes so much that the lap times of the 410 are just barely faster. But you can still see the speed difference between the last 360 heat and the first 410 heat that comes out right after it.

But I do believe the 360s and even the 305s put on a good show. And the 360s look bad fast when there are no 410s there to compare them too!

I have seen 360s and 410s on both of those tracks Oswald.   I would tend to agree with you on Knoxville, but Knoxville is a good bit bigger than Devils Bowl and the configuation is different too.  Devils Bowl is probably closer to 4/10 mile than 1/2 mile.   I think it officially comes in at .44 miles, which is 300 feet shorter than Knoxville.    They are very different animals.    Every time I've spent a night at Knoxville I've actually seen racing during the heats.  I only recall one ASCS night at Devils Bowl where I saw some racing in the heats.    And the Bowl is that way nearly every time, at least until the track dries some and slows down just a bit.      I just wished I lived in Iowa, at least during the summer anyway....

Last year during ASCS action Blake Hahn ran numerous 13 second laps during his heat race. Of course track was locked down.

I don't doubt that at all.   Do you know what how far under 14 seconds it was?  Or what the best lap was?   Just curious.
