I have been out of the loop. Now I see 105/16 right rears being used where 18 was common before. And Hoosier has 18s on close-out sale. Is the 18 obsolete for some reason? Thanks for information!

Elliot, they are trying to unhook the cars. Didn't do much though infact they went faster with the 16" right rear than they did with the 18" right rear.

To unhook got to take sideboards off of wing or make then the same hight first.

It is hard to tell as you do not see many new track records broken.  The condition of the track also has alot to do with lap times.  If the track if perfect  wich does not happen that often you can get some real fast times.  I think the Devils Bowl they said Mark Kinser held the track record from late l990 s. I think engines now have more HP than they did then.  Rubber compounds change over years also.  I think the 16 inch tires are plenty fast but I do not know if they are faster than 18 inch.  Also in the past you could run a super soft tire for time  trials only.  Who knows for sure.

Yes, I figured they were trying to rein in the speed a little, what with horsepower increasing. How much horsepower do the best 410s put out now? 900?

Could this mean that the lower-powered classes will no longer be able to buy 18s? Or are local amateur classes staying with 18s?

You would have to check rules for each group.I know our 305's stayed on 18's as an option even after 360's switched to 16's,but our 305 class has been dead now for a couple yrs.I'm pretty sure non wing cars can still run 18's in areas.Too many different rules, you will just have to check your area.

Keep in mind that shock tecnology is getting better each year, and has more to do with finding grip than most people realize. That makes better lap time too.

Eliminate top wing sliders
Go to taller left rear tires

Shock packages are definitely much better & unfortunately getting more expensive.

Or you could just go watch non wing.  I hear they still have room in the stands.
