We talk about a lot of drivers on the forum on a regular basis, but for some reason we only talk about Terry McCarl for a day or two after he wins an Outlaw show.

Why is that?  I for one consider him extremely underrated in the sprint car world and a great ambassador for the sport of sprint car racing.  When he wins, I'm not surprised....

Would you consider him as good as a Dale Blaney who was was ranked fourth in the national sprint car poll?  No matter what or how infrequantly he competes with the Outlaws, he is going to win one Outlaw race a year.  How many would he win if all he had to do was be the driver for a full time Kahne or Stewart team?

Anyways, observation over.  Have a great weekend...

He was the driver of the Big Game car with the WoO. Didn't win that often. When he got hurt and Sammy was put in the car he won more and was more competetive in it when he did not win. Thats why Terry did not get the ride back when he was healed.

As for being a great ambassador.... I saw him refuse to sign a t shirt for a little girl because the shirt she was wearing and wanted him to sign was the shirt of a driver he did not like. Many other drivers had allready signed it but Terry refused.

I will throw the bullshit flag on Terry not signing a young girls Tshirt!

Let's just see how Terry did in the Big Game Car in a full year.

19 wins

Won Knoxville 360 Nationals
Won Knoxville June WoO Show
Won opening night of Ohio Speedweek/First Career Win at Eldora
Won the Knight Before the King's Royal
Won the $10K All Star Finale at Huset's
Won the Jackson Spring Nationals

Sammy in 3 years has 18 wins. Hmmm smart choice on the win colum for the Big Game Car.

How many times has the big game car been on the front row of the Nationals since Terry was let go?

But then agian he just must be a washed up 50 year old.

Throw anything you want. I am a friend of the family and was in the pits with them after the races that night. She was getting as many drivers to sign her shirt as she could. Do not remember what drivers shirt she was wearing, but Terry would not sign it.

That being said, I do own McCarl t shirts and talk to him often at Knoxville. I do not dislike the man. Nor am I trying to bash him.  But I know what I saw.

Lol..some people on here are hilarious.  I am not doubting you Oswald, but out of the hundreds of thousands of times Terry has signed t-shirts, hats, coozies, etc. you have a story about one time.  If there is a driver autograph session, I would expect to get an autograph.  In the pits? not so much.  I would say that Terry is one of the drivers that always stays around after the races and mingles with the fans, if he can.  Sometimes there are situations where that is not possible.

As far as parrisisland, that is a classless comment, and one of the reasons the posting on this board has dwindled.  I post with my name and own my comments.  To hide behind a computer keyboard and make inflammatory comments about drivers, crews and wives is cowardly.

Doesn't it get tiring watching people trying to catch a misstep?  Sounds like politics to me.

Congratulations Terry and crew and good looking wife Lori!  Awesome job!

Tmac = old school and I really respect that.   It means he expresses his true feelings and sometimes ruffles feathers.

I don't see anything wrong with Tmac (or anyone) saying to a little kid,  "no I will not sign that jackasses T-shirt, he is a piece of shit".    So the kid was disappointed....so what?   Most likely not the first time and hopefully not the last that the little princess will not get what she wants.    The world ain't full of candy and rainbows!    woulda been cool if he would have gave her a signed Tmac t-shirt though wink

One thing I am looking forward to is when Terry retires.    I am hoping he increases his promotional efforts,  even though the FRC and UC have lost their luster I think the sport will be healither with him as a promoter.   (Silver Crown Terry,  work on saving Silver Crown)

He is a great driver, who has run good everywhere I've ever seen him race.  I remember the first time I went to East Bay when the 410's were still there in February and he was unbeatable.

I don't mind seeing him win, the only thing is I always hope he is not in the lead during a caution, because he may run the slowest pace laps I have ever seen LOL.

I'm sure if you dig hard enough you will find a story similar to this girl not getting her shirt signed for every sprint car driver (or even race car driver) in the country.  Nobody is perfect.

I will say that what he did for my daughter about 7-8 years ago won over a fan for life.  He let her sit in his car at Eagle Raceway, signed her shirt, pretended to sign the back of her neck with a sharpie...very friendly and very nice to her.  She isn't much of a race fan now but still asks about how Terry is doing.  He didn't have to do any of that on this day but he did, and I thank him for that.

Nobody said you couldn't say it.

They said it was classless. I agree

I talked to Terry at the turn 4 concession stand at Eldora. He seemed like a good guy to me.
