Can't blame Tony for that decision at all.. Sprinters haven't been to kind to him the last two seasons for sure. And the man has a lot on his plate . I for one hope he gets his mojo back in Nascar this season.

Last summer I suggested that it might be best if he stayed out of them and got chastised by the Hosers for daring to suggest such a thing.  The press is brutal whenever anything negative happens to a sports icon like Tony and there are other ways to support Sprint Car racing.  Those other ways he can support the sport appear to be the path he has taken with his purchase of the All Stars.  That could all change over time but for now the negative press is so fresh in the mind of the public that it will be front page news if he even comes within 50 feet of a Sprint Car.

Although bummed for Smoke that he feels that way,  I honestly think he can benefit the sport more by concentrating his efforts on car/track/series ownership.   (I say this not because of the potential negative attention he can bring but more for the positive things he has already done) It was nice to see him smiling and totally at ease during the Chili Bowl, so we know he is still able to derive happiness from some level of participation.

Smoke,  start with the All-Stars, learn the dynamics of growing a series and then figure out how to purchase USAC in 5-10 years!

If he turns around the all stars the world of outlaws could sure use his help. 15-18 national travelling teams-that's terrible for all the hype they create for themselves. If it wasn't for locals filling their fields they aren't worth $35 a ticket.

Could it be that he volunteered his time at the Chilibowl to learn all he could about the operations and organization of the event?  Could, yet another purchase be in his future?

Isn't that what the WoO is all about.....locals VS traveling pros?    They have never had more than 15-18 full time teams in the past 37 years have they?

the outlaws were designed to bring a few top names to run against the locals. they were never designed to be a self contained show.

when more teams started running the series full time then we heard complaints that the locals didn't have a chance to make the show.

to indy and beyond!!

Old news, he has said this since the accident. I'm sure in the future he will end up back in one but no time in the near future. I'm a Tony fan, I hope he does come back eventually but respect the way he feels and its his decision alone to make and I am glad that he continues to find other ways to contribute/give back to sprint car racing.

Also, if the Outlaws ever have 15-18 national teams would be good. I think 10 is typical over the past few years which is almost half the A-main field.

Wow, you must not have been around much. I can remember not that long ago when the Outlaws had 8-10 guys hit every race. 15-18 Regulars is perfect for the brand. Outlaws vs. locals. If you had 24 Regulars you would lose the locals guys just going to try and make the show. Around 15 cars running the full schedule is perfect!!

That was the concept behind the name as in Outlaws ride into town, steal your loot and ride off into the sunset.  I had three young kids and was working nights and weekends during their first few seasons so I didn't catch them until around 1983 or so and have seen them every year since.  If memory serves me there were a lot of years they didn't come close to 15 to 18 full time travelers.  The Outlaws were never intended to be a self contained series like NASCAR where all the cars follow the tour and it's tough for a local to even get into the show and only one or two would try.

The NSL has clearly stated from the outset that their intent is to work with other series and has left a bunch of open dates in June open to accomidate the Outlaws when they are in the midwest.  Then we've got the All Stars now owned by a WoO car owner so I can't imagine them scheduling against the Outlaws.  The IRA does the same thing and, in fact, is working with the Outlaws when they're up this way.  You wouldn't know all that to read the posts on here, according to some of my fellow keyboard jocks it's all out war and every series for themselves.  And of course there's the recurring them of the offseason that the Outlaws will meet their demise.

Not much has changed on here since the board started.  Some different people posting but the themes of the doom and gloom posts are consistent.

Enjoy the coming season.  I think it's going to be a good one.

Tony Stewart: I may never race a sprint car again

http://www.foxsports.com/nascar/story/tony-stewart-i-may-never-race-a-sprint-car-again-020415

He never raced them for the money and when he did it helped the promoter in gate count. What happened is history but without question he is a great ambassador to open wheel racing. One thing good about Sprint Cup is the money is so good that it helps other types of racing when guys like Tony,Kyle Boyer Kahne and others show their true passion of racing by their support.Being realistic the % of race car teams that show a profit without major sponsers are few.

even though it seems like this is being posted every day, it isnt exactly breaking news. i have a feeling that he has too much desire not to get back in a sprint car but with everything that has happened over the past year, its not a prority right now. i would like to see him race again but certainly understand if he doesnt.

The Outlaws can't support more than 15 traveling teams, I think that series is very strong right now with 14-15 full time drivers headed into this season.  You can't have 24 top notch teams with 10 of those teams only making $100-1000 a night (and spending $3-5K each night) for long.  I agree with others that also say Tony is better off doing what he is now through owning, promoting, and track prep.  In two weeks the All-Stars have gone from folding to a series of 8-10 good full time drivers and a solid purse.  That's what he's capable of.  Sure it was nice when he ran, it was another good car in the field, etc, but he never "made" a field at a race I've been too, most of the time he was the slowest TSR car in the field.  Seeing Larson in a car is much more appealing at this point in their careers than Tony.  With the WoO traveling nationwide, the NSL covering much of the midwest with a stacked field of drivers, and the rejuvinated All-Stars covering everything east of NSL I think 2015 is shaping up to have the potential to be one of the most competitive sprint car seasons ever.

I think 2005 had at least 20 full-timers and sometimes more, somebody can look it up or maybe Johnny can set the record straight....

Comment of the year so far..... what other sprint car series provides the level of competition that the WOO does? How many times a year do you get to see the best of the best? So based upon your comment they should create less hype b/c of the # of cars they have.

He has plenty to prove in a winged 410. The love of money is the root of all evil.  If he's the man I think he is, he will be back from his money making dream world to real stuff at real places like Marion and Cumberland counties.

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

I think he will eventually get back in one as well. He seems to have lost the desire to run indy cars, but I don't think he'll ever beat the sprint car bug. His accident was pretty freak. Plus he has watched Kinser win quite of few races and Kinser is 15-20 years older than him.
