2,000 INCENTIVES FOR 360 DRIVERS AT BUDWEISER OVAL NATIONALS!
(AUGUST 22, PERRIS, CA) When the 12th Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals, presented by Temecula Valley Pipe and Supply, hits the Perris Auto Speedway track on November 1st, 2nd and 3rd, there will be two thousand extra reasons for drivers with 360 engines to be racing in the prestigious event. To be exact, those two thousand reasons are $2,000.00!
"There are a lot of strong 360's out there and we want to give them some extra incentive to run the Budweiser Oval Nationals," promoter Don Kazarian stated from behind his desk on Wednesday morning. "Therefore, we are going to pay $1,000.00 to the one 360 driver who scores the most qualifying points (Thursday and Friday combined). And, we are going to pay another $1,000.00 to the 360 driver who posts the highest finish on Saturday. Whether he wins the A main or finishes 17th in the B main, the 360 driver with the highest finish on Saturday will pick up a $1,000.00 bonus plus his regular purse."
The Budweiser Oval Nationals, which is a full points paying race for both the Lucas Oil USAC National Sprint Cars and the Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, is "America's Toughest Sprint Car Race." All drivers compete all three nights! Thursday and Friday will be full shows with all cars qualifying, heat races, preliminary mains and an A main event. Points accumulated on Thursday and Friday will determine which race a driver starts in on Saturday. The three day thrill show of daring speed and wild slide jobs will culminate with a $30,000.00 to win 40-lap main event on Saturday night.
In addition to the racing, there will be a Golf Tournament on Tuesday October 30th, Big Bucks Corn Hole Tournament (Saturday afternoon), a free for the fans practice on Wednesday night, October 31s and more.
Anyone wishing more information can contact Perris Auto Speedway at (951) 940-0134.

I think that is a great thing to do for the 360 teams willing to compete, and I am sure we will be there to support this show. The only thing I would suggest with the purse is to spread it out a little more. I say you give the top three in points for wed, and thursday the thousand spread out. (example below) I am sure you will pick up at least 20 more cars with this incentive, it would just make it a little better since we are running against 410s, and have to purchase a soft tire, among other things. It is great for Perris to offer this though, and wish them luck with it.

1. $500
2. $300
3. $200

Ascot48: I thought of that too. Looks like the track is looking to lure cars to make sure they will have enough for a 3 night show.
Just goes to show how the 410 teams are slowly but surely sitting out some races. While I have always suspected they will be there for the kind of purse the Oval Nationals puts out, Donnie K. looks like he would like to have a little insurance on car counts. Obviously not what the track thought of when deciding to go in that "other direction".
By the owners parking their cars as they have been lately, it seems as if they are saying........."Can you hear me now?"

They should drop the USUC sanction for the Oval Nationals and switch to a Sprint Bandit sanction. Emmit Hahn would get the cars there.

I think the oval nationals are going to be just fine with a car count between 60 to 70 cars, especially with a purse of $30,000 to win. I think that the PAS is doing a good job at giving the 360 guys some incentive on running with the best non-wing drivers in the country.

The way I understand this........ it makes for one team to possibly take all of the $2000. You get the $1000 for being the highest 360 team in prelim points, then.......you get to start ahead of any other 360 team(s) in what ever event they run and that gives that one team a chance to take it all ($2000).
If your NOT one of the elite 360 teams, your probably thinking your chances to make any extra cash are pretty slim. If you are, you know its all or nothing (as the bonus $$$ is concerned). No shot taken at the idea of paying more $$$$ (thats always good), just an observation.

Your idea is a good one (for the reason I mentioned above). Good luck to you all! Will you be going to Manzy for the Western as well?

Yes KOP. Dennis will be running the ASCS 360 Nationals at Manzy in October as long as all of our equipment holds out. We just had to get a new motor, and are looking forward to Manzy, and the rest of the VRA schedule.

Ascot48- I don't think that TNT sanction would help much, I was at Lakeside, they barely had 40 cars with a #10K purse, even Bud Kaeding didn't show when he was 2nd in points with a $10K in points fund, and it seemed 1/4 or 1/3 of the drivers were from the west coast anyway. They didn't draw very good from the midwest for this event.
Packersfan-I wouldn't be surprised to see a 20 to 30% decrease in car counts this year, KNOXVILLE Nationals lost about 30 to 40 410 this year. (They still had 100 cars for 4 days of racing). However, the 360 Nationals at Knoxville drew over 120 360's and 40 410's.
Perris does have one thing going for them this year, they are not schedule against the Trophy Cup and maybe will get some car from up North and Central CA. However, I think Perris Mgt is smart to try to get extra cars. With the price of Diesel in the Midwest, I would not expect as many teams to travel to the West Coast, but than again, there are more strong funded sprint car teams like Tony Stewart, Kahne, Damion, etc, etc, that will make the trip out.
Also, at the TNT race at Osky there was a huge field of 50 cars with a HORRIBLE weather forecast, and that race was rained out . (That really pissed me off!!!!!) but it drew a lot of wing drivers, CRA drivers and teams, USAC and all over.
But no matter what, after having seen 4 days at Knoxville, and 2 days at Lakeside, don't worry, the best sprint car racing of the year will still be at Perris during the Oval Nationals. (Although Lakeside is a hell of a facilty and if you ever get a chance to go there, its a fun place to go.) And Ventura is still my favorite place to go especially after the heat of the Midwest, God place those Midwest Race fans with their Humidty, Rain and Lightning Storms and they camp in it for 10 days in Knoxville. Once was enough in a nice cool hotel. Can't waite for Ventura on 1/5 mile tonight!!!!!!
