CALIFORNIA LIGHTNING SPRINTS CARS “BEACH PARTY” AT VENTURA RACEWAY THIS SATURDAY!
(Torrance, CA, October 16, 2014) The next to last race on the 2014 schedule for the California Lightning Sprint Car Series will be the “Beach Party” featuring the CLS against the top stars from BCRA this Saturday night at Jim Naylor’s Ventura Raceway. The race will go a long way in deciding who will be the CLS champ in 2014. San Diego’s Damon Arnett has a 9-point lead over 2012 Champion Bobby Michnowicz and he is 12-points in front of Jeff Dyer. Spectator gates will open at 3:00 PM with racing at 5:30. Joining the CLS on the program will be the VRA Sprint Cars, Dwarf Cars, Sport Compacts, Mod Lites, Junior Midgets and Mini Dwarfs.
The series has made one appearance at Ventura in 2014 and that came on April 7th when defending series champion Steve Limon won the main event over Michnowicz. Arnett was sixth in that race and Dyer finished 14th after getting upside down in the main event. Limon has since sold his Lightning Sprint Car and bought a 410 to race in the USAC/CRA Series.
Arnett took the championship point lead at the last race when he finished 11th at the Bakersfield Speedway on September 27th. Michnowicz scored his series leading sixth win at the Bakersfield race. Dyer, who lead the series standings most of the season, got tangled up in someone else’s mess for the second race in a row at Bakersfield and was forced out of the event finishing 18th.
There has been another change to the season ending schedule. The CLS will not be racing on Thursday, November 6th at the 19th Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals Presented by All Coast Construction at Perris Auto Speedway as originally scheduled. The final race of the campaign will be at The PAS the following night, November 7th.
