I read where someone was pushing for Winnipeg (78,79, 81 woo shows) to get back on the WOO schedule. That would be awesome, but I understand there are many obstacles to overcome, like insurance and such. However, seeing as we are trying to get the Jets back, why not the outlaws. About as much chance of that happening as is the Jets coming back.

My suggestion is to squeeze a show in after Grand Forks or Minot. Don't like to say it, but maybe get rid of the Fargo date and move up here. Seems the Fargo show is dieing a slow death.

Local sprint specials in Winnipeg regularly draw 5000 fans. A woo show would draw that and some (probably americans making the 1-2 drive north). No doubt it would sell out.

Can the track hold such an event, I honestly don't think so, but, lets see what it takes to make it work (besides cash).

How about a major local sponsor, like Coca Cola?

it would be nice to see a WOO event in winnipeg.......... i don;t think its a matter of the outlaws saying no... i am pretty sure its a case of the track promotors just not wanting to put the time into organizing an event.. you would think after seeing the success of the grand forks show... in a city a 10th the size they would be all for doing anything in their power to land a date......... i great chance to get the tracks name out their and a chance to make the track grow... has anyone actually talked to Guy about the chances.. i am suprised darren paullen isn;t really puching for one

I have emailed Guy on several occasions over the past year. Just don't make any sense to me as the WoO sat in GF for most of the week, back in June, when they could have made the 120 mile tow up here and packed the place, and put on a show like Winnipeg has never seen before. You seem to be right in that they feel it is too expensive. I think the track owners are content with their current schedule of races. They can make good money hosting a NOSA race in July. As well the four LM specials during the year draw big enough crowds for them to just stand pat with what they currently have. I think an independent promoter will have to come along and lease the track, much like what Grand Forks and Edmonton have done. I believe SLS promotions is involved with those events. Any one have an email address for these guys!!!

Was told by Shane Carson himself at the Knoxville Nationals this month its about 80K to put on a one nighter with the WoO. With about 6000 in ticket sales at $40 each, simple math tells you its gona make money, even after you pay insurance, employees etc...

By all means take Fargo off the schedule. I've been up there several times including this season and the show sucks. I have no idea what happened to that track. Use to be a good 3 day show, but that place sucks now. I hope you folks to the north get your wish, you deserve it more. Winnepeg, Grand Forks, Cedar Lake sounds like a plan!

I've been to virtually every WoO show Fargo has ever put on, and yes, that track has no excitement left in it. This seasons WoO show was the poorest of the three we attended that weekend. Fargo went from one of the better shows of the season to a merry-go-round race the last few years. I think GF should get a 2 nighter after the way things turned out there. 45 cars and action all over that place. If they can prep the track in Winnipeg properly it can be way more racey then Fargo.

Since Fargo dropped the 360's and got the Wissota weekly classes in there I have noticed a change in the fan base. It's pretty hard to convince people that think Super Stocks and Midwest Mods are professional racing that World of Outlaws Sprints are better. LOL

I heard mooney and pallen (heaven forbid however that we consider them to be the be all and know alls) say that GF will get 2 nights, either in a row after a schedule revision or as a second single night show sometime after the nationals. Why not add a winnipeg show while on the way to edmonton.

thanks, yeah I realize they released a first draft schedule. Do you think I would post something like this before checking that out first. Anyways, I'm sure YOU understand that in previous years, the WoO have revised their schedule many times before settling on a final one. So don't take what you currently see on the net to be set in stone.

There is no doubt in my mind a WoO show would be a huge success in Winnipeg. As was discussed in the podcast, they need to make this happen in order to put the Speedway on a higher level. I myself know of several "fairweather fans" who don't come out to the races on a regular basis, but if the Outlaws were to show it would definitely be something that they would attend. Its all up to the owners/promoters. The fans will support a WoO event here. I feel SLS promotions could come up here like they did in Edmonton and GF and make this show finally happen.

Stan, I can't speak for others from the Fargo area, but I know what the difference between professional racing and local racing is. (I'm not taking any offense to your comment) It really does piss me off to see what Fargo has become. I think the "downward spiral" with the WoO started when Don Mack walked away from promoting the weekend. It was truly a BIG deal to have the WoO drivers show up. When the local Sprint Cars were racing weekly, and had good fields, it was excellent. The three-day WoO 410 and local 360 Sprint show was on my list for best races each year. It was absolutely awesome to attend, even if you weren't a big fan of Sprint Cars. I was at a racing meeting at RRVS one night in July, and someone mentioned something about an outside party renting the track for a special. The way things were described by the fair board members, the promoter would rent the track, keep ticket sales I think, and would give the fair profits from concessions and beer. The manager mentioned that SLS did that. When he said that, I just about dropped! I understood right then why the RRVS stop on the WoO tour went from a 3 day weekend, to one night. Frankly, I couldn't believe why SLS would even want to promote a race at Fargo. I believe they are holding at least one night of racing so the tradition of having the Outlaws at RRVS continues. And I also believe the Schatz family has something to do with it. If you remember in 2006, there wasn't even going to be a WoO show at Fargo. The fair board didn't want to do it. Many thanks go out to SLS for stepping up to the plate. It really meant alot. I hope something gets resolved soon. I certainly want the WoO to continue coming up here.

Once they push the Sprints out and sell the local fans on the lineup of Late Models, Modifieds, Midwest Mods, Supers and Streets it's tough selling a Sprint show anymore. It has taken the IRA years to finally establish a fan base here in Late Model country (western Wisconsin and Minnesota) but they have been successful at it. I think what might have soured a lot of people on Sprints too is Wissota's attempt to "promote" the 360's. It was more about selling tires and having a stranglehold on all local racing than it was about really caring about Sprint Car racing.

I grew up on Hamline Avenue in St. Paul, three blocks from the State Fairgrounds. There used to be ten days of racing there when I was a kid, most of it open wheel. All of our area tracks used to run Supermodifieds. Then some of the promoters had a falling out with the Sprints and they took on Stock Cars as their preferred class. I grew up in the middle of Sprint Car country and now it's all Late Model and Modified. I know some of the Late Model guys, Cryderman, Doar, Nutzmann, Nesbitt, and Mod drivers such as Cain from our local tracks. Good guys and I like watching them but I'm a Sprint fan at heart so I'm glad the pendulum has swung back in the other direction and at least we're getting some specials again.

I didn't know that Don Mack wasn't promoting Fargo anymore. My cousins used to race against Don when he drove the Doug Howells car. We still see Doug working on the car for his grandson.

Stan, I've mentioned before on the 20/20 page that I live in Harwood, ND. In some sort of a way, I like to consider it somewhat of a Sprint Car town, though we have racers in other classes. Back in the 80s, there were a couple of Limited Sprint Car drivers from Harwood, which were Ron Larson and Doug Job. Mr. Job lived three houses down for me, and we would visit his place once in a while. When Fargo first ran Sprint Cars, Rick Aukland got a ride. His crew chief was Lee Grosz's dad Leroy, who I believe raced a Sprint Car years ago. They lived (and still do) four houses away from me. Anyways, before he built a shop behind his house, Leroy kept the Sprint Car in his two stall garage. It was pretty cool to see when I would go over and play with Lee. (we were kids, obviously) - Many times during the summer, I would hear the roar of a Sprint Car, and would see Rick driving it down the highway next to the Grosz's. I would always run up there as they tuned it. When Rick went Dirt Late Model racing full time, the Sprint Car team continued until 1997 (I think) with various drivers before disbanding, at which time Leroy and Lee began racing karts a bunch more. The year before Brad Pake quit, Lee mentioned to me that he would be driving for his grandpa the following year. Little did I know it would be the Howells #4 instead of #64. It is great to see a kid I grew up with speeding around ovals in a winged Sprint Car now. Anyways, as you know, Matt Folstad and Loren Langerud were also Sprint Car drivers from Harwood. They were great guys as well as great drivers, and it is very sad to not see thim wheeling a car anymore. I talked to Matt about a month ago, and he mentioned he hasn't really kept up with racing that much lately. Though Loren's daughter goes to school with my sister, I haven't seen him to see what he's up to. He did just complete a shop behind his house. Tim Mulvaney lived in Harwood for a short time in the 90s. At that time, he kept it at brothers' or maybe cousins' (I think) house, which was down the street from Langerud's. Scott Butz grew up across the street from Folstad's and ran his Sprint Car from there, before moving to Argusville (5 miles north) in recent years. Up until the late Robby Beck retired, his car was worked on at a garage in Harwood. I can't think of the guys' name, but he lived across the street from the Greseths, (Mike was '04 and '05 Mod Four national champ, and currently races Mods, Matt was '06 Mod Four national champ) - so that was pretty cool. I think the Austin Monson Sprint Car team is based out of Harwood, or is atleast wrenched by Brian Buzick of Harwood. As for me, I grew up in racing, as my dad started racing before I was born. He currently races a WISSOTA Late Model at RRVS. My brother started racing 10 years ago, and also currently races a WISSOTA Late Model. Basically all my friends from Harwood race or have raced cars. I hope to in the near future. Unlike many people who are only interested in one type of division, I like to watch pretty much any of them. I love Sprints, but love Late Models too. Modifieds to a slightly lesser extent. LOL I really hope the RRVS WoO show bounces back, because it would be awful to see it's demise.

Winnipeg Racing Scene....in June!

All they need to do is add a wing!

I'm kidding.....I don't have to be in Calistoga until Saturday and I'm a little bored, Ashland is not the hot bed of FUN...unless you like Willie Shakespeare.

We're going to hit the Klamath River Friday... Averaging 10 fish (steelhead) per rod up to 10lbs. on mossbacks and assassins.

Just listened to the podcast. Many things pop out at me. First of which, the insurance. I'm glad to hear that the insurance coverage is not only available but would be in line with the NAPA show. Wonder though, are the street light poles on the front straight away strong enough to hold a Winged Warrior & what row would one land in?

I am forever the optomist, I think the jets are coming back, so forgive me if I tend to agree more with Darren. Its funny how he started off the show. We (buddies and myself) always joke about Johnny Gibson making his famous "You wanted the best..." intro but with Winnipeg as the host city. Or seeing the 20 some haulers pulling down Pembina Hwy. That would be awesome.

I've seen at least 4 WoO nights a year for over 20yrs. I and others will drive 7hrs plus to watch one night, 3hrs (or 6 if in Fargo) of WoO racing then turn around and come home. To be able to go to a WoO show in Wpg would be AWESOME. Better yet though, it would be awesome to bring other buddies who think we are nuts for driving so far so often. This way they would get the rush with out the drive commitment. It's hard to get people to go to races let alone tell them they have to drive hour upon hour to watch them.

Winnipeg speedway is always mentioned by WoO people. "The last time the World of Outlaws raced outside the united states was at Winnipeg Speedway in 1982." That needs to change, somebody pony up the big bucks and I'll bring my $50 and at least 10 new fans.
