You people defending Tony Stewarts actions in any way are totally pathetic. A kid loses his life and some of you dirt bags have the nerve to call the kid stupid and a hothead!! Just Imagine if that was your son. Stewart may have done alot of good for sprint car racing, but this incident will tarnish him for the rest of his life. Never said Tony did it to intentionally kill the guy, but because Tony was acting like a prick again, this time he has crossed the line.

So cubic.... you really think somebody sitting on the front stretch of a halfmile track could see that much detail all the way over in turn 2 under such a traumatic time involving a good friend? He's not even right about being pinched into the frontstretch wall or when the tire went down...tire was fine....car got into the marbles too hot, hit the wall with the RR that was clearly inflated at corner entry, and thats what flattened it... your memory is never exactly what you end up seeing on a video after the fact
|
I agree he just got crowded over cushion by Stewart in "a racing deal" and hitting wall was what flattened tire, not what his friend said. If other fans/witnesses say he was already slowed down quite a bit and then hit the gas when he saw the kid it will look real bad though.
Bad enough he is going away. His career is already over. TSR is done. His marketability is over. No one is going to get near him even if he does somehow win in court. It will also be a black eye for sprint car racing in general. Breaking his leg in one knocking him out for the season was nothing.

I watched the video again in frames. Tony's car didn't shift until after he made contact. In other words the contact between Kevin and Tony's car caused ithe car to abruptly change direction. In fact you can see Tony back steering to the LEFT, not right, after making contact.
I didn't see any evidence of Tony reving his engine either. If you go frame by frame, you'll see Kevin was clearly in front of Tony's car. Tony had no where to go.
To suggest that Tony ran him down intentionally is nonsense. Tony wasn't mad, he had no reason to be mad. The person who was mad was the driver running around on the live race track.
|
That's the way it appears to me, too. I watched all of the videos that are up on youknowwho.tube and that is what I concluded. Also, factor in how hard it is to see out of 20 layers of tear offs, the height of the engine cowl/dashboard, wing panel, the somewhat dark area on the track, the black driver's suit of Ward, he perhaps did not see him until he was too close.

No I wasn't there, but the video speaks for itself....as does the audio of when Tony burps the throttle.

Sure looks like intentional manslaughter charges to me
|
i don't believe there is such a thing as intentional manslaughter. when you intentionally kill someone that is murder.
and i also don't believe tony intentionally hit the kid.
from the video, which is not conclusive, it looks like the car in front of tony almost hit the kid.
to indy and beyond!!

I don't know Tony Stewart & have no idea what he saw or thought. I hate to think he would intentionally hit the guy, which would be murder. I do know it was incredibly stupid for the driver to get out of his car, walk to the middle of the track & attempt to confront a moving sprint car.
RIP & condolences the his family & loved ones

It sickens me to read peoples comments on here and on social media blaming one party or the other. The whole thing ended terribly and a young man lost his life and other lives are changed forever. Have some compassion for the loved ones involved. Life is very fragile make sure to tell the ones close to you how much you love them and show them also because at the end of the day the people close to you are all that really matter in life. It doesn't matter how much money you have or how many races you've won or how big your house is. Life can change in a blink of an eye especially in racing. Godspeed Mr. Ward . I pray for all the members of the racing family tonight and the families of those involved because when one mourns we all mourn.

Cubic dollar is a f$$$ing douche bag know it all. Good riddance you POS. You must have missed half of the drivers stating that the lighting in 1-2 is horrible as you can see in the video. I hate to see this happen, but the Ward kid is just as responsible for this happening as Tony is. I will never see your post again dollar so don't bother replying. Blocked!

I have never seen a good outcome of someone upset unstrapping and walking into yellow traffic upset on the offensive. I am not saying TS could not have got down away but tracks need to do more around tangible rules against it. The intensity is too high out there to not have something looming over a drivers mind around his actions when he decides full of adrenalin to get out of a car and aggressively enter traffic. It should have some impact on points, next race starting draw, etc. This is the quantification it can’t remain "best effort". And yes Tony was full of addrenalin too and as a man looked to have "stood his ground". It all happened in seconds and I am sure Tony regrets not steering down the track. It is too bad for the sport in general.

Driver is wearing a black firesuit. From Stewart's POV, Kevin probably blended into the background, blended against the spun-out car. The "rev" we hear is probably a reflex action, trying to get out of the way, when he realizes there's a human standing in his path.

My thoughts.
Kid should have never have gone down the track to confront Stewart.
The one video I saw isn't very good because the video scrolls to the one driver and all you see is the person being struck stick their hand forward and start to run back up the track just before Stewart hit him. Honestly the video looks as if it were shot on a calculator though so it's hard to tell.
A black eye Sprint car racing doesn't need. Stewart will face a trial, you can be sure of that. Whether it be civil, criminal, or both.

I see it as a very unfortunate accident. Have some respect until we know further details. Even then, still have some respect.

There won't be a jury or a trial. The only thing we know for certain is that a driver got out of his car and dilberately ran out on to a live race track.
|
Dude, get off Tony's jock already. If you watched the video you can hear plain as day that he mashed the throttle when he saw Ward. We are under caution here and IMO anyone that does that has no business being in a racecar. Was it a bad decision by Ward to get out his car and get that close to the oncoming cars? Obviously, yet drivers do it all the time when they are upset. Stewart's done it many times himself.

After wading thru all the posts its pretty easy to see who the real racers are, not to mention who the TV/Utube "experts" who have never been to a race in their life. Glad to see that most folks here could view the video and see the obvious: That Ward literally ran in front of Tony's car; how the hell could Stewart or any driver for that matter possibly anticipate that?? Not to mention coming in from the blind side.
There is no-one, anywhere, who loves the sport of racing more than Tony Stewart. No-one has given back, and continues to give back more than he does. No-one feels worse about this than Tony. To even hint that this terrible event was anything more than a series of tragic coincidences shows both ignorance and the 'tar and feather' mentality that permates much of the internet.
