So, I attended the Ventura Raceway Fair Night...... I don't think I have ever been so blessed with such terrible luck, yet such fortunate support! It was another beautiful Ventura day... Picked up a last minute ride around 3pm.... #88 Machine of Todd Atkins and John Spittle. Can't thank these guys enough for the fine opportunity to play race car and D.j. Lebow for the transportation! I feel like if anything could go wrong, it did. (Just my luck. Sorry guys!). Started the nigh...t off with a coil going south on us.... Special Thanks to Eric Moore and R&B Chassis for their spare coils. Back on all 4 Cylinders, and the hot rod was working well! Lost the starter before the heat race. Had to push start the monster. (Special Thanks to Hannah Mayhew & Brandon Wiley for the push starts! You guys Rock! Great Sportsmanship!) Lined up 5th in the 1st heat. Car was working well....picking our way to the front only to break the RR axle. At this point, I figured if I continued on with the night, I was destined to destroy the thing. TERRIBLE LUCK! However, the wonderful racing community wouldn't let that be the case. Mike Neal offered his spare axle, and Jonathan Medrano was quick on his feet. 10 min before the semi, the fun began! Jonathan unbolted the axle, slid 1 out, and another in. Hobie Conway buttoned the Hot Rod up as I saddled up. Now with a LR brake only, the real fun was to come. Starting at the rear of the field, I pumped up the brakes for the drop of the green. Entered turn 1 on the cush to have no pedal and little brakes. Oh man, what a treat and a rush! lol. When in doubt, aim for the cush and throttle out! Lets say that was probably the highest I have ever run a dwarf car...Had to keep away from the rest as we had very LITTLE stopping power. lol. Beating the Cush up, we actually started making head way. Picking em off 1 and 2 at a time, we advanced into a transfer and still a car on the move. My apologies to Conley. Maneuvering around the track, I did my best to avoid him and had no luck. We hit wheel to wheel.... both survived, however Devin McCree fell Victim. Sorry buddy.... Back in line, and charging forward, we lost our muffler with a few laps to go. Bummed? Absolutely!! However, the Positive Patty in me says it's alright; S*** Happens....Some nights shower us with luck and we can do no wrong, and others, well... I'm sure we've all experienced those nights! So, the lesson of the day....taught by the Racing Family: NEVER GIVE UP! FIGHT TIL THE BITTER END! Feeling terrible for breaking the #88 Hot rod down to pieces.... but at the end of the day, I have to say: I am so Wonderfully Blessed and forever Thankful to have such a Loving and Supportive Racing Family. Sportsmanship? The Absolute Finest amongst the Dwarf Car Community. To have this much bad luck strike ya down, but to have so many hands embracing and jumping in on the mix..... Forever Grateful! Thank You to all.... I can't even begin to list all the people, but you know who you are!
