CALIFORNIA LIGHTNING SPRINT CAR SERIES HEADS NORTH FOR CIVIL WAR CHALLENGE!

(Torrance, CA, July 30, 2014)   After four weeks off, the California Lightning Sprint Car Series returns to action this Saturday night, August 2nd, when it journeys north to take on the BCRA in round #2 of the “North vs South Civil War Challenge”  at Placerville Speedway.  The race replaces the originally scheduled round #2 of the challenge series that was slated for the Santa Maria Speedway.

In addition to the Civil War Series, CLS drivers will also be chasing points for the 2014 regular season championship.  Heading into the event on the high-banked quarter-mile oval, Fort Irwin’s Jeff Dyes has a slender 20-point lead over San Diego’s Damon Arnett in the championship standings.  Lomita’s Bobby Michnowicz, who leads the series with five wins, has closed to within 100-points of the top two.  Corona rookie Corey Hoover and Murrieta’s Zach Zauss round out the top five going into Saturday’s race.

While Saturday’s event will be the only points paying race for the CLS at Placerville this year, five CLS drivers trekked to the track two weeks ago to get some laps in before this weekend’s showdown.  Michnowicz won the main that night ahead of BCRA regular Brian Corso of Ripon and CLS rookie Cori Andrews of Murrieta.

Michnowicz took round #1 of the Civil War Series at the Bakersfield Speedway on May 10th.  Dyer finished second in that race with Corso third.

After Saturday’s race, the CLS will return to its home track, Perris Auto Speedway, for two straight races on August 16th and September 13th.   It will then journey back to the Bakersfield Speedway for the third and final round of the Civil War Series on September 27th.

The California Lightning Sprint Car Series would like to thank series sponsors Performance by Rosson Racing, T Shirts by Timeless, Cold Fire West, Circle Track Performance, Extreme Mufflers, Racing Optics, Saldana Race Products, Keizer Wheels, Sander Engineering, Christian Stover Foundation, Hoosier Racing Tires, Drake Incorporated and DK Machine.  If you or your company would like to become part of the California Lightning Series for the 2014 season, please call Bobby Michnowicz at: (310) 320-5569.
