Marysville Raceway Park Press Release 8.12.07 For immediate release By Bob Burbach Anderson, Shelby and Ollar grab the Victories Open Wheel Frenzy and Taco Bell Night this Saturday Marysville- Sacramento’s John Anderson poked his nose into the lead and won a sprint car race that nobody seemed to want to win. Yuba City’s Phillip Shelby padded his point lead with a virtuoso drive from the back to the front in the KKCY Stock Car feature and Gary Holsey, also of Yuba City, could not quite get by Jamey Ollar as Ollar romped to another feature win in the KKCY Mini Stock feature. All of this was capped by an outrageous figure 8 task for the Extreme Bombers at Paul and Kathy Hawes Marysville Raceway Park Saturday. The KKCY Stock Cars started the features and arch rivals Jerry Bartlett and Jeff Olschowka shared the front row. As expected they roared away from the field at the green. But, mid-field strife broke out in turn 1 as both Heather Bartlett and fellow point contender Phillip Shelby were caught up in a mess. Heather Bartlett kept going, but Shelby was hammered by rookie Wes Shermantine and was relegated to the rear for the restart. Olschowka got the jump on Jerry Bartlett at the new green and with Chris Warner in tow. The smart money was on the top two, but Warner won the last time he appeared at MRP. Heather Bartlett settled into an easy 4th. Ray Benkowski began to reel her in as Phillip Shelby made a frantic march to the front from last. Jerry Bartlett and Olschowka motored away from the field, Shelby arrived in 6th almost immediately as he sliced his way to the front. He was into the Benkowski-Heather Bartlett struggle as the race approached ½ way. Shelby got by Benkowski and started to look for 4th position. Then, a most amazing series of events changed the entire complexion of the event. Olschowka appeared to lose it as he and Jerry Bartlett diced in very close proximity to one another in turn 1. Olschowka collected Bartlett AND 3rd running Warner. All three cars came to a stop and 4th running Heather Bartlett got a big gift and was the new leader. The new green put Shelby behind Heather Bartlett and the race was on! Shelby hounded Bartlett relentlessly as Jerry Bartlett and Warner rocketed back through the field. Benkowski stayed perilously close in 3rd. As the two leaders came to the white flag, Shelby made his move as he crept inside the pink 99 of Heather Bartlett. Under Robin Davies’ white flag, Shelby had a nose on Bartlett. He extended his lead as the pair reached the backstretch and motored home with Bartlett and Benkowski in his wake. It was one to remember. In the later laps Jerry Bartlett was on the move as he came in with a fine 4th after his turn 1 troubles. Jerry Bartlett and Olschowka won the heats and Jerry Bartlett grabbed the $100 in the Dash for Cash. The KKCY Mini Stock feature was a whole other matter. Plagued by early race multi car pileups and uncooperative back markers who would not get into proper position, the race was sadly flagged to an early end. Too bad really, as the race up front was a real nail biter as Jamey Ollar and Yuba City’s Gary Holsey had a great race for the lead in the laps that were run under green. Last week’s winner Robert Luster was in the mix as well. A resurgent Damian Merritt dueled contender Blane Baker for the 4th spot. Merritt’s runs to the front have been impressive of late, and his dice with Baker and 2006 Champion Joel Giusti was one of the highlights of the event. Orland Mini-Truck competitor Kevin Brown made his 1st run at MRP a memorable one as he stayed in the lead swarm for much of the first part of the race joining Merritt and Baker in the tussle for 4th. Brown biked his truck on 2 occasions, and fell to 7th in the final standings. The Orland based Mini Trucks ran a heat of their own as 7 entrants made the tow. Giving them an opportunity to try out the MRP ¼ mile racing with their own was a good idea as their heat race went flag to flag without a hitch. Ollar prevailed as the feature event winner at the yellow/checkered with Holsey, Luster and Merritt ahead of Baker. The Wingless Warriors were next up and, like the Stock Car race earlier, it was impossible to predict a winner…and, like the Stock Car race the winner came from last after being turned around in the 1st turn. Yuba City’s Mark Hill and pole sitter Tim Barnes roared into turn 1 side by side. As they exited turn two Sacramento’s John Anderson was sideways and stopped in turn 1 after three cars ahead checked up causing Anderson to throw it sideways and stop. The new green had Barnes bolt into the lead with both Tim Sherman Jr. and Pat Russum getting into 2nd and 3rd respectively. The race was a good one as Sherman and Barnes had a sweet race going for the top spot. Russum seemed content with 3rd in the early going. Hill stayed 4th. Quick time qualifier, Josh Tucker of Willows passed into the top 5 behind Hill. Then Hill and Tucker got Russum with a slick inside move and on lap 7 of 20. Moments later Russum lost it in turn 1 and stopped. As in last week’s barn-burner event (in which he finished 2nd from 9th), Anderson was slowly picking his way back to the front as the leaders fought for the top spots. This Yellow flag suited Anderson just fine. He was 6th at the restart. Barnes led at the new green with Sherman, Hill and Tucker breathing down his neck. As the pack approached turn 3, Barnes slid sideways to a halt. Hill plowed into him then Tucker hammered them a ton as Sherman escaped unscathed and into the lead. Tucker and Barnes were finished and Hill went to the back to continue his point battle with Russum. Anderson picked up three valuable positions in the exchange and would restart 2nd just behind Sherman. Birthday boy Sherman was having his ride of the year sailing along in the lead. Sherman found the high side and continued keeping Anderson at bay. In a heart beat, however, Sherman’s night ended as smoke poured from the #1jr. Engine problems had cancelled his race leading run. The groan from the grandstand was considerable as many of the onlookers were rooting for Jr’s 1st win on his birthday. The race continued and Anderson easily outdistanced the field thereafter. But, Russum and Hill were on a mission and cut and slashed their way to 2nd and 3rd respectively. Scott Herbert was having his best run ever when he had problems on the front chute and slid to a stop in front of heavy traffic. The 3rd car through the mess was Yuba City’s Tim Burcher and he slammed into Herbert’s stalled machine. Burcher’s car flipped coming to rest upside down at the entry to turn 1. Burcher was unhurt and the race resumed with Anderson in the lead. With 7 to go Russum and Hill had made it back to the front and were right behind Anderson. The final laps were green all the way and try as they might, Russum and Hill could not get by the crafty veteran. Russum nosed up along side on the 18th circuit, but could not make the pass. Pat Couch finished 4th and Herbert finished his best ever 5th after restarting after Burcher’s flip. The EXTREME BOMBER FIGURE 8 finale was, as you would expect, a slam-bang, crash ‘em up affair that was ultimately won by Mini Stock point leader Lisa Shelby. Her passenger (I’m told) was sprint car star Brandon Dozier. He had the brake pedal. We know he doesn’t use it very much…so that tandem crashed and whirled around the figure 8 course with significant speed. They won by more than 2 laps if we’re counting right. A great time was had by all. Judging from the crowd reaction, the figure 8 task is becoming wildly popular with the fans. Hardened sprint car fans are sticking around to see the Extreme Bombers. The Extreme Bombers will once again be given the figure 8 task on Saturday night August 25th. An all open wheel extravaganza will highlight next Saturday Night’s Taco Bell Night at MRP. The mighty alcohol burning Winged Sprint Cars and the Wingless Sprint Car Series will be back for complete programs of their heart-stopping wheel-to-wheel action. The Nor Cal Dwarf Cars and the SORA Sprint 100s will complete the show. Pit gates always open at 3PM. Spectator Gates Open at 5PM with racing getting underway at 7PM. PRESS RELEASE PLACERVILLE SPEEDWAY, PLACERVILLE, CALIFORNIA FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, SATURDAY, AUGUST 4, 2007 MEDIA CONTACT: BILL SULLIVAN Point leader Brandon Davis wins first Placerville Speedway wingless feature event Accidents plague midget feature event, forcing curfew shortened feature event By Bill Sullivan PLACERVILLE – Brandon Davis of Rohnert Park extended his current point leader in the Hunt Magnetos Wingless Spec Sprint Car Series at Placerville Speedway Saturday night. Davis entered the event as the point leader of the series that competes for a shared championship between Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico and Placerville Speedway and maintained it after leading every lap of the 25-lap event. Saturday’s event featured five divisions of racing at the El Dorado County Fairground. Davis shared victory lane with pure stock racer Burney McClure of Nevada City, Pro Stock winner Marek Bernert of Fair Oaks, Joey Hoover won the Midget Lite feature event and Chris Rahe was declared the winner of the BCRA Midget feature event that was shortened early due to multiple accidents and time limitations. In the Wingless Sprint car feature, Davis started fourth and overtook pole sitter Jimmy Pettit of Chico, Cody Smith and Nick Green of Sacramento for the lead. Once in front, Davis was challenged by defending series champion Bob Newberry of Antioch with 12 laps complete. Davis used the high side of the track while Newberry drove the lower to produce a nail biting battle for the lead into the final laps of the race. At the finish line it was Davis followed by Newberry, Matt Streeter of Lathrop, Kent Stephens of Modesto and Brad Virga of El Dorado Hills. In the Pure Stock feature event, McClure took the lead of the 20-lap event from pole sitter Matt Tilford of Folsom. McClure led every lap of the event to drive to his first win of the season after finishing second to his son Mike McClure on several occasions. Tilford maintained the second position all the way to the checkered flag ahead of Jason Englund of Citrus Heights, Mike McClure and Rick Grunert of Woodland. In the Pro Stock feature event, point leader Marek Bernert of Woodland took command of the lead at the waving of the green flag. Bernert started on the outside of the front row and took the lead from polesitter Jeff Arbogast Jr. of Auburn. Once in front, Bernert went without serious challenge until the late laps of the race when Arbogast closed in on the lead. Bernert maintained his lead to the checkered flag followed by Arbogast. Dennis Ahart of Cameron Park finished third ahead of Rancho Cordova’s Mike Moran and Forryst Carnett of Placerville. In the wingless midget lite division Saturday night, Doug Nunes of Kingsburg won the 20-lap event. Nunes maintained the lead to the checkered flag despite serious challenges by teammate Cameron Beard of Turlock. The two near identical cars battled side by side for much of the event. At the checkered flag it was Nunes being followed by Beard, Tyler Franklin of Roseville and Sam Corso of Ripon. The midget division had its share of adversities Saturday night. A combination of accidents, spin outs and line ups that were delayed by driver’s lack of attention results in an event that was scheduled for 25-laps being cancelled prior to the halfway point due to curfew limitations. In the state of California, any fairgrounds facility must have all operations complete by the mandated curfew, including racing activity, public address systems and anything considered audible. Newcomer Chris Rahe was declared the winner of the feature event. Following the event, all competitors were called to special meeting by the officials of the Bay Cities Racing Association in regards to the events that took place. Saturday’s event was just the second race of the season to be shortened due to curfew. The first of the year was the opening night point race when a serious accident required lengthy rescue efforts and forced promoter John Padjen to cancel the race approximately 15 minutes prior to curfew. Next Saturday is a big night for those that are little at Placerville Speedway. The Mountain Democrat Newspaper will present the annual “Kids Night at Placerville Speedway.” This gala affair gives youngster an opportunity to race their bicycle’s by age group on the front stretch of the speedway during intermission. The to three finishers in each age group will receive a trophy, everyone who competes will receive a participation ribbon.
All kids under 12 will be admitted for free Saturday night and will have the chance to win a BMX Bicycle purchased at Golden Spoke Bike Shop by the Jim Webb, publisher of the Mountain Democrat Newspaper. In addition to the free admission and drawing, every youngster in attendance Saturday will also receive free popcorn and soda along with a complimentary ticket to the Placerville Police Officers Association’s 34th Annual Hangtown Destruction Derby that takes place on Sunday afternoon.
For further information on these events, check www.johnpadjenmotorsports.com or visit www.hangtowncops.org.

BLAND STRENGTHENS POINT LEAD WITH SPRINT WIN HILLMAN & CRAMER ALSO EARN VICTORY LAURELS BLOOMINGTON, IN (August 11, 2007) – The weather was August hot and sticky, but that didn’t spoil the racing, nor keep fans at home. In front of a boisterous hometown crowd, Jeff Bland Jr. made winning look easy as he led flag-to-flag to capture his second sprint car feature victory at Bloomington Speedway on Friday night, strengthening his point lead over Danny Holtsclaw. Jesse Cramer claimed a thrilling modified victory, while Chris Hillman collected his first Bloomington feature of the year. With many members of the Hoosier Auto Racing Fans in the stands, all three received HARF t-shirts and memberships. SAFETYKLEEN SPRINT CARS Among the thirty-seven sprint cars unloading were Billy Boat and his son Chad, returning from Arizona with a new Roomstore Maxim. Californians Tony Everhart and Jesse Mack, who were on their way to the Tourin’ Topless series, stopped for their first visit. Everhart said that he really liked the oval, but was still working on getting his stagger right for the track. Bill Rose brought Mike Murgoitio, a pavement specialist in just his fifth start on the dirt. Rose, who has been running with a wing the past couple seasons, said that he’d rather be at Knoxville this weekend, but didn’t have his motor ready in time. Boat inaugurated his new machine with a victory in the first Safety – Kleen sprint car heat, Brady Short, Jon Sciscoe and Jimmy Light clamed the other three heats. There was good racing throughout as in the second heat, Dickie Gaines hustled from seventh to second and young Ricky Williams took the fourth transfer ticket from ninth. Blake Fitzpatrick prevailed in a hard battle for second in the last heat, while Bobby Stines raced from last to third. Several drivers had problems during the heats including Jared Fox in a second Sciscoe Dalex machine, who stopped with smoke pouring out from under the car. With two B-mains, only two drivers transferred from each. Kent Christian took the first from the pole, while Kevin Studley finished second from tenth. Kevin Thomas Jr. and Mike Murgoitio earned transfers from the front row of the second race. The evening’s most serious incident occurred during the first “B”, when Todd Kimmell took exception to being passed for second by Ty Deckard and drove hard into Deckard’s machine as they entered the third turn, sending both into a series of flips. Although neither driver was injured, both cars appeared to have extensive damage. Jeff Bland Jr. earned his second 25-lap feature win at Bloomington, starting from the pole. It took several attempts to complete the first lap as the scrap to get through the first turn was intense. Several drivers suffered flat tires, but found that they had time to pit and change the tire, miss the next start attempt, and still return to the tail of the field before the first lap was finally completed, including Dickie Gaines, Danny Holtsclaw and Kenny Niflis. Bland had opened a straightaway-length advantage by the midway point, as no one was able to keep up with him. Brady Short was unchallenged for second in the family car and the highlight of the show was the strong run by Arin McIntosh. After lining up 15th, McIntosh used the inside groove to hustle past Jimmy Light, Fitzpatrick and Bub Cummings for third spot, and didn’t give Russ Gamester an opening to take the bottom away. This clearly earned the Sprint Mart hard charger honors for the young lady. O’Neal Wood Products Modifieds – With 25 O’Neal Wood Products Modifieds on hand, heats were won by Chad Combs, Josh Eads and Kent Robinson. The first heat was among the best racing of the night, until the modified main took the green, as Combs kept Jesse Cramer behind him in spite Cramer’s best efforts to dislodge him from the lead. Seth Parker took the semi over Matt Bex. Josh Eads is going to win an O’Neal Wood Products feature soon. Friday night, he came very close. Starting from the front row, Cramer grabbed the lead from Jared Bailey, Kent Robinson and Eads. With Robinson running the top and Eads on the bottom, they waged a good battle for third until Eads finally moved cleanly past on lap 9. Working traffic on lap 13, Eads took second and went looking for Cramer, a half-straightaway ahead. As they negotiated slower cars, Eads didn’t appear to be making up much ground until the last three circuits. On lap 23, Cramer got crossways with turn two, nearly spinning, and Eads was quickly on his tail. With another slow car just ahead of them, Eads got underneath Cramer as they went into turn three on the last lap, and they raced neck-to-neck through the fourth turn. But Cramer’s momentum gave him a half-car length lead at the flagstand. Bailey, Robinson and Matt Bex filled the top-5, with Bex earning the Intense Motorsports & JD Byrider of Columbus-sponsored hard charger honors, racing from 17th and to fifth. Tire & Wheel Center Super Stocks – Chris Hillman said that the car he used to win the Tire & Wheel Center Super Stock feature had visited Bloomington’s victory lane before, with Greg O’Neill at the wheel. Hillman won the third heat with the car, earning the pole for the super stock main. Travis Howe and Kevin Arthur also claimed heat race wins, and Tom Ault topped the semi. Starting from the front row of the Tire & Wheel Center Super Stock feature, Hillman and Troy Clark scrapped for the lead from the green flag, with Clark taking the point on the second circuit. Shut out of Bloomington’s victory lane all season, Hillman dogged Clark, working the inside of nearly every turn. On the seventh lap, Hillman pulled even in the first turn and was able to hold his position through turn four, retaking the lead at the starting line. While Hillman opened a half-straightaway advantage, Ben Dubois and Jeremy Hines worked past Clark, claiming second and third at the checkers. Hines third place run earned the Kerr Racing Engines & Jerry Burton Masonry hard charger award.

Kyle Hirst Gets Win at Silver Dollar Speedway by Troy Hennig CHICO, CA (8-10-07) - Sacramento driver Kyle Hirst won his first main event of the year at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico on Friday night. Hirst was driving the Gary Perkins owned GP Development #6h in a test and tune session getting the team ready for the upcoming Gold Cup Race of Champions in September. “I need to thank Gary for the opportunity he gives me and Brian from GME Steering boxes who helped us out this weekend,” said Hirst. Hirst took the lead from Brett Miller who drifted off the track while trying to pass a slower car on lap 11.
Evan Suggs spun off turn one during the first lap of the main event.
Suggs was the fastest qualifier tonight and transferred from his heat race with ease. He started outside row two and seemed poise to have a strong run until the first lap mishap. The leader of the race was Tyler Spath of Chico driving his brother's Nor Cal Performance #KR14. On lap two Brett Miller passed Hirst for second and set his sights on Spath.
The two battled for the lead and going into turn three Miller stuck his nose under Spath for the lead. Spath gave Miller plenty of room but in the process jumped the cushion and flipped upside down. It was a tough break for the family but Spath is showing that he is a contender.
Miller inherited the lead. On lap five Jim Skinner turned over in turn three and behind him Kevin Sharrah barrel rolled. Both driver were fine but done for the night. On the restart Sean Becker pulled to the pits with motor problems. On the next lap Zack Mason took a nasty flip down the back straight. He was uninjured but done for the night. The next few laps went non stop and the leaders worked their way into traffic. Miller drove up on a slower car and things went south from there. Miller had to avoid the car and drifted off turn one and stopped. Heart break city for the Miller team that needed some good luck for once. This gave the lead to Hirst.
Challenging Hirst for the win was Andy Gregg. Gregg won the B main event and started eleventh in the main event. Gregg missed all the altercations and drive his way into an exciting second place finish.
Gregg has continued to impress the local folk and is starting to gain quite the momentum that is needed for a strong run at the Gold Cup in September.
Hirst was able to lead the final laps and get his first win of the year at Chico. Hirst celebrated in victory lane with his family and crew members. Chico's Ryan Kaplan finished third. Kaplan is the current leader of the USAC Western States Sprint Cars and is holding his own against the winged dirt warriors at Chico. Johnny Gray finished in the fourth spot. Gray missed last week's racing because of a fishing mishap that took off part of his pinky finger. Gray rebounded for a top five finish. Robbie Whitchurch rounded out the top five in the Cycleland Speedway #82. Zack West finished a career best sixth tonight. West and his crew have been a welcomed addition to the Friday night programs at Chico.
Ryan Kaplan, Robbie Whitchurch and Mike Monahan were all winners during heat race action.

Trulli Wins “Napa Valley Challenge” For Sprint Cars At Calistoga Speedway by Bill Sessa
CALISTOGA, CA (8-4-07) - Jimmy Trulli took advantage of a bright yellow caution flag to claim the black and white checkers in winning the “Napa Valley Challenge” sprint car main event Saturday night at Calistoga Speedway, his second Civil War series win of the season.
The Placerville driver led all 25 laps from the outside front row and dominated the first half of the race, but needed the caution flag that regrouped the field and a clear race track on the restart to beat back a strong challenge from Andy Gregg, also from Placerville.
In the early laps, Trulli opened up leads as big as half the length of the straightaway on the half mile oval, while Gregg diced with Jason Stattler, San Jose, for the runnerup spot. By lap seven, Trulli began catching slower, lapped cars and a few laps later, Gregg was closing fast as Trulli struggled with the traffic. But on lap 17, Gregg’s charge came up short, as the yellow flag flew for Chico’s Brad Bumgarner, who spun and backed into the wall in turn one.
“I really struggle at this place,” said Trulli about the Calistoga half-mile, the biggest race track that the Civil War sprint car series runs on all year. “But we changed everything on the car,” he added, including a last minute gear change that made the car easier to turn, “and I felt more comfortable tonight.”
The yellow flag came out at the “perfect time” he admitted. “I had no idea I had such a big lead and I just ran my own line on the track,” he said of the early laps, “but I knew when we got to lapped traffic that somebody was going to be coming.”
That “somebody” was Gregg, who felt that his car would handle better in traffic. The difference was a tire that he was forced to use because the one he would have preferred had sold out earlier in the evening. “We had to go to a smaller tire, so I told my crew to just adjust the car for it,” said Gregg, who started inside the second row on the grid. “I told them that if I didn’t spin out on the first lap, I would just ride it out,” he added.
As it turned out, the smaller right rear tire made Gregg’s car slower on an open track, but more maneuverable in traffic. “He was struggling in lapped traffic,” said Gregg of Trulli, and added that he was confident he could have taken the lead if the race had continued under green flag conditions.
Behind the leaders was a three car wheel to wheel dice for third between Sean Becker, Jason Stattler and Brent Kaeding, who claimed his13th Golden State Challenge Series championship in July. But on the restart after the caution flag, Becker’s car stumbled and Stattler and Kaeding both shot by the Oroville driver.
“I don’t know why his car didn’t go,” said Stattler, who finished third. “But I knew if I didn’t go, everybody behind me was going to run right by me.”
The sprint cars return to the Calistoga half mile for the Harvest Classic featuring the national World of Outlaws tour on Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day weekend.

Scotty Weir and Myles Bishop eached flipped in the feature race. Fortunately, neither driver was injuried.

Press Release
Santa Maria, CA - August 11, 2007...USAC/CRA 410 Sprint Cars scorched the 1/3-mile oval at Santa Maria Speedway Saturday night. NMRA TQ Midgets and Mini Stocks joined the sprinters for a wild night of short track racing. Along with the serious racing the Western Racing Association Vintage Midgets and Sprints were on hand to provide some exhibition racing for the fans.
*Local driver Danny Sheridan, of Santa Maria, took the lead from the outside of row one in the 30-lap USAC/CRA Sprint Car feature event. Sheridan was able to hold the top spot until the 23rd circuit when Temecula's Mike Spencer took over the lead. Sheridan's night then took a turn for the worse when he was forced to pit with two flat tires. Spencer, who set fast time of 13.631 seconds, averaging nearly 88 miles-per-hour, went on to win for the second time this season at Santa Maria. Norco's Tony Jones came through with the runner-up spot followed by Danny Faria, Jr. of Tipton. Ricky Gaunt, of Riverside, and Rip Williams, of Yorba Linda, filled out the top-five. Gaunt, Blake Miller, of Yorba Linda, and Miles Bishop, of Escalon, captured 10-lap heat races.
*Kenny Wiley, of Sunland, set fast time of 15.455 seconds for the NMRA TQ Midget division but had to settle for second in the 25-lap main event behind Randy Moody of Ventura. Chuck West, of Clovis, who won the July 7 feature at SMS, came home third, followed by Camarillo's Bruce Hiroshima and Moorpark's West Evans. Eight-lap heat races were won by West and Hiroshima.
*Santa Maria's Frank Nyback won his 8-lap heat race and then went on to capture his second career 20-lap Mini Stock main event and his first of 2007. Justin Crockett, of Arroyo Grande, picked up an important point by winning his heat race and then finished second in the feature, just ahead of point leader Ken Kehs, of Arroyo Grande, to edge closer to Kehs in the championship points race. It was an eventful race for the point leader who was turned into the turn three wall early in the event, and had to work his way back to third from the rear of the 18-car field. Santa Maria's Mike Weigel placed fourth, and third in points, Justin Marsh of Nipomo, was fifth.
*Next Saturday night Century 21 Hometown Realty Bandit Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, Fox 11 First at Ten Super Streets and Mini Stocks will see action. Admission prices will be $14.00 for adults, $10.00 for seniors (65+), $3.00 for children 6 to 12, 5 and under free. SMS is located 1/4-mile north of the 101/166 interchange, on Hutton Road.

NCMA Sprints Altamont Motorsports Park Tracy, CA August 11, 2007 By Sharyn Bragg
Lavell Takes Pavement Points Lead
Jimmy Lavell won his fourth pavement race this evening at Altamont Motorsports Park to take the lead in the season pavement points. With only one scheduled pavement race left, running at Madera Speedway next Saturday, and fifteen points separating Lavell and Ed Amador, the Pavement Points Championship is still up in the air. It will be one to watch as it goes into the book.
Lavell once again set fast time this evening, with Michael Zarevich coming right in behind him. E. Amador was third, David Goodwill fourth and Jeff Burrows fifth. In a rare occurrence, five cars were allowed to run the Trophy Dash. Burrows and Goodwill were one-two. Lavell and Amador were second row and Zarevich started last. Goodwill took his classy Napa Auto Parts sprinter right to the lead. By the second go-round, Lavell was trying to take it over, looked as if he got into the marbles on the outside and bobbled enough to have the field get past him. Goodwill continued his quest, taking his first pavement Trophy Dash win. Burrows came in second, E. Amador, third, Zarevich and Lavell finishing fourth and fifth.
After a six car inversion, Steve Amador and Rob Hammond brought the pack to the green. Hammond went right to the lead, looking very strong. Lavell who started in sixth position worked his way to the front by lap four. Hammond was holding onto second and doing a good job until he got squirrelly, then bobbled again and exited the track. Lavell was still in the lead, with the real race going on behind him as Burrows, E. Amador and Zarevich looked like a freight train hooked up. Hammond was able to reenter the track and continue the race, but Goodwill was up close to the back stretch wall and off on the hook. At the end of the race, Goodwill offered “We’ve had some problems (today) and no sense wadding it up in the wall.” Two-thirds of the race E. Amador nearly lost it and Zarevich knew exactly what to do as he took over third. Burrows was still holding second. S. Amador got squirrelly going into turn one turned his 360 sprint around and came down nose first, leaving Denny Burrell with no place to go but up and over Amador. Fortunately they were both able to continue. Several laps later the thirty lap main event was complete, and Lavell has his fourth main event win of 2007. Burrows, Zarevich, and E. Amador, were second, third, fourth and S. Amador rounded out the top five including the spinout! Of note: Gary Koster who has been the pavement points leader, has opted out to care for wife Jeanette as she continues with health issues. The NCMA family offers them both prayers and good wishes
NCMA Sprints will be competing at Madera Speedway in the last 2007 scheduled pavement race next Saturday night. For further information check it out on RaceMadera.com.

WAS IT A FULL MOON SATURDAY?! MANY CRASHES AND A YOUNG FIRST TIME WINNER!!!
The Arizona Sprint Cars and the Gaplin Ford Challenge Cup Sprint Cars made a return to the revamped Canyon Speedway Park Saturday night. The night started off on a good foot with the young Lealand Michael wining the Trophy Dash. Lealand won his heat race, and he was looking to sweep the night when the main event started, and starting in the second row was a great help.
In the first heat race, Prescott Imes made contact with another car and start a sequence of barrel rows in turns 3 & 4. Prescott climbed out of the car on his own power, but he was in obvious pain. Once he got back to his pit area, they determined he needed to get to the hospital to be checked out. A helicopter was brought in to fly him out. It turned out he fractured his T9 vertebrae. We all are sending our prayers to Prescott and his family. Lealand Michael went on to win the first heat with Art Mankel, Matt Phillips, John Brinkley, Prescott Imes, and Jason Sweeney rounding out the field.
The second heat ran with out a hitch. Jeremy Realges won the heat with Mike Martin, Derek Williamson, Nick Auito, Caleb Cousens, Kevin Wolf, and Paul Norbury following.
The third heat put a stoppage to action for close to an hour when Bruce St. James had a car failure coming down the front straight while leading. His car dug in on the right front, and started flipping down the front straight catch fence. The car got tangled in the fence, and it took some time to get the car out of the fence. When the heat started back, Bryan Swinehart won the heat follow by Brian Hacker, Tray Deane, Jay Ervine, Shon Deskins, Darrel Sickles, and St. James.
The main event started as the night had been going, bad luck and more damage. In the opening corner, Reagles went to the bottom, and hit a slick area. He slid up into Swinehart, and Swinhart and Hacker made contact. Neither one of them could continue. On the restart, Michael jumped to the lead, and held it for a few laps until Deane pulled a good slid job to take the lead. Deane held the lead for a few laps, and Reagles ran him down and passed him. At the end, Deskins was coming, but a couple of mistakes allowed Reagles to win his first ever sprint car race. We all hope this Fridays night race in Prescott, Arizona will run a little smoother. We hope to see a good car and fan count Friday night, there will be a barbeque after the races.
Main event: 1. Jeremy Reagles #44, 2. Shon Deskins #62, 3. Lealand Michael #77, 4. Tray Dean #81, 5. Paul Norbury #12az, 6. John Brinkley #25, 7. Derek Willamson #74, 8. Darrell Sicles #74s, 9. Matt Phillips #55, 10. Nick Auito #27, 11. Jay Ervine #5, 12. Mike Martin #16, 13. Art Mankell III #76a, 14. Jason Sweeney #29, 15. Caleb Cousens #9, 16. Brain Hacker #31, 17. Bray Swinehart #4c, and Kevin Wolf #45
20 cars on hand, Bruce St. James and Prescott Imes did not start the main event.
