CALIFORNIA LIGHTNING SPRINT CARS CELEBRATING JULY 4TH AT THE PAS!
(Torrance, CA, July 3, 2014) The California Lightning Sprint Car Series returns to its home track, Perris Auto Speedway., tomorrow night, July 4th, to celebrate Independence Day with a giant night of sprint car racing and a fireworks spectacular. Joining the CLS on the racing side of the program will be the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, PAS Senior Sprints and the PAS Young Gun Sprint Cars. At intermission, the City of Perris and Budweiser will present the biggest and best fireworks sky concert in Riverside County. Spectator gates will open at 4:00 PM, with racing at 7:00. The fireworks will brighten the night sky at approximately 9:00 PM.
After a three week break in the CLS championship schedule, United States Army sergeant Jeff Dyer takes the point lead into the holiday racing program. The 31-year-old Fort Irwin based racer, who won The PAS season opener in March, is being hotly pursued in the championship chase by San Diego’s Damon Arnett. The 50-something Arnett was second at the last race at The PAS and has chopped Dyer’s lead down to 28-points, Lomita’s Bobby Michnowicz, the 2012 CLS champ and the only driver with more than one win (he has four victories) in 2014, is third in the standings 120 markers off of the top spot. Recently turned 16-year-old rookie Corey Hoover and defending champion Stephen Limon, both of Corona, round out the top five.
Michnowicz has won two of the previous four mains at the famous Riverside County racing plant staged thus far in 2014. Murrieta teen Cori Andrews and Dyer have won the other two. Last year, Michnowicz won the July 4th race at The PAS.
Friday’s race will be a preview of what a majority of the second half of the season will look like for the CLS. Of the final nine races of the campaign, five of them will be at Perris. The CLS is pleased to announce that it has added a race to the schedule and it is a big one. On August 2nd, CLS members will journey north to challenge the BCRA regulars in round #2 of the “North vs South Civil War Challenge Series” at Placerville Speedway. The race replaces the canceled Santa Maria Speedway date.
