Sun Prairie, WI | July 2, 2014 – The POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series, USAC Honda National Midget Series, and Badger Midget Auto Racing Association will come together as one for the first time this season on Saturday and Sunday night. All three divisions will play host to the 33rd annual Pepsi Nationals held at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.
The special Independence Day weekend event will commence for the 33rd time as drivers, cars, and fans from all over the country will flock to the Firemen’s Angell Park Speedway 1/3rd mile located in the heart of Wisconsin. The two-day extravaganza will prove to be vital in the points chase with all three series’ running for points.
The POWRi battle will see Pocahontas, Illinois native of Zach Daum carry in the point lead with 2140 markers. Right behind by Daum is recent hot streak starter of Tyler Thomas with 2070, Defending USAC Midget champion of Christopher Bell with 1950, Another KKM driver of Tanner Thorson with 1920, and last week’s Tri-State victor of Darren Hagen with 1725. Parker Price-Miller is sixth with 1560, Andrew Felker holds 1555, Jake Blackhurst 1435, Daniel Robinson 1410, and Austin Brown closes the top ten with 1315.
The USAC Honda National Midget Series currently has KKM driver and Rutherford, California native Rico Abreu on top of the standings with 481. Seeking the final piece of Triple Crown bid, Tracy Hines sits in second with 388. Reigning USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Champion of Bryan Clauson has third with 387, Christopher Bell sits fourth with 370, and Dave Darland and Tanner Thorson both hold fifth with 311. Zach Daum is seventh with 285, Andrew Felker has 272, Chris Windom has 267, and Kevin Thomas Jr. has 257.
Norman, Oklahoma native and Midget hot shoe of Christopher Bell will bring in the Badger point lead with 319. Behind the so called “Norman Ninja” is his KKM teammates of Abreu and Thorson running second and third. Darren Hagen holds fourth with 235 while 2012 POWRi Midget champion of Andrew Felker has fifth with 218. Parker Price-Miller has sixth with 200, Zach Daum holds 198, Bradon Waelti 189, Jake Blackhurst 147, and Scott Hatton 143.
Daum returns as the defending champion of this event, while other previous winners expected to compete include Tracy Hines (2001, 2002 and 2010), Brady Bacon (2008), Jerry Coons Jr. (2007), Scott Hatton (2004-2005) and Davey Ray (2003).
With a full field of the nation’s best Midget drivers expected to hit the Wisconsin 1/3rd mile this weekend, it is certainly one of the premier events on the 2014 schedule that you do not want to miss. Guys like Bell, Abreu, Daum, Clauson, Hagen, Felker, Hines, Thorson, Thomas, Miller, Darland, and countless of other phenomenal drivers will be in action for the Pepsi Nationals title.
