Story by Brian Walker – Walker Racing Promotions Millstadt, IL | June 26, 2014 – After a three week delay from Speedweek action, POWRi returns to battle this weekend with an Illinois – Indiana doubleheader. Both the Midget and Micro divisions will take to action at Fayette County Speedway on Friday night followed by the Ford Eco-Boost Challenge finale at Tri-State Speedway on Saturday.
The action at Fayette County in Brownstown, Illinois will be the 21st of a 39 race schedule in the Midget division while this will be the 12th of 25 races for Micros. Drivers will look to dethrone the dominant Keith Kunz Motorsports trio along with point leader Zach Daum as a field of 30+ Midgets will take the high banked ¼ mile track.
Saturday night will see the series head on over to the “Hoosier State” as the third and final race of the Ford Eco-Boost Challenge is ran at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Indiana. The high banked ¼ mile “Class Track” will show host to both POWRi Midgets and Micros as well at the Midwest Sprint Car Series.
Christopher Bell, along with his KKM teammates are no doubt the favorites heading into this action packed weekend. Bell has already claimed the first two races of the Ford Eco-Boost Challenge after dominating the field at both Bloomington and Brownstown Speedway back in May. All together the KKM trio has produced a staggering 11 victories with their powerful Toyota powered Bullet Chassis’ this year.
Although KKM has seen a whopping amount of success, it is Zach Daum who will carry in the point lead along with Bell as the two are tied atop the points with 1950. Not far behind is two-time race winner of Tanner Thorson with 1920, POWRi Speedweek champion Tyler Thomas runs fourth with 1910, and another two-time victor of Darren Hagen rounds out the top five with 1525.
On the Micro side Aaron Andruskevitch has 980 points and carries in a 20 point lead over Jeremy Camp in second. Nathan Benson holds his Pace Chassis #2B in third with 950, Millersville, Missouri native Joe B. Miller is fourth with 790, and Jake Neuman closes out the top five with 710.
All the intense action will kick off tomorrow night as POWRi Racing runs the first and only race of the year at Fayette County Speedway. Saturday night’s races will also be the only event of the year at the Indiana track of Tri-State Speedway.
MAVTV will also be attending the races at Tri-State Speedway on Saturday night as cameras will be rolling to cover the Ford Eco-Boost Challenge. Action will not be filmed live, but can be seen on TV at a later date. Fans will be able to witness the action from home on channel 248 on Dish Network or on channel 214 on DirecTV. MAVTV is also available on other providers. Go to www.MAVTV.com and click on “GET MAVTV” to find out if MAVTV is available to you.
