CALIFORNIA LIGHTNING SPRINT CARS AT PERRIS SALUTE TO INDY SATURDAY!

(Torrance, CA, May 21, 2014) The highly competitive 2014 season for the California Lightning Sprint Car Series continues on this Saturday night, May 24th, at the “Annual Salute to Indy at Perris Auto Speedway.”  Joining the CLS on the action packed racing card will be the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, PAS Senior Sprints and PAS Young Gun Sprints.  Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 7:00.

Going into Saturday’s race, Corona’s Stephen Limon, the 2013 champion, has a 51-point advantage over Fort Irwin’s Jeff Dyer for the top spot in the championship standings.  Lomita’s Bobby Michnowicz, the 2012 champ, is third in the point standings 120 out of first.  Third year San Diego racer Damon Arnett is 5-points behind Michnowicz in fourth.  Murrieta’s Zach Zauss is fifth.

The best battle for position among the top ten is from seventh through 10th, which is only separated by 7-points!  Rookie Cori Andres, a 15 year-old from Laguna Niguel, sits seventh with 1019 points.  Fellow rookie Jeremey Queener of Torrance is one point behind Andrews with 1018.  Veterans Dan Hillberg of Placentia and Anaheim’s Dale Gamer are ninth and 10th with 1015 and 1012 respectively.

Corey Hoover of Corona, who is sixth in the championship standings, is the leading rookie after the first six races.  He is 42=points ahead of Andrews and 43 in front of Queener in the “Rookie of the Year” standings.

Through the first five races of the campaign, five different drivers entered the CLS victory circle.  Michnowicz, Dyer, Limon, Hillberg and Northern California’s Dakota Albright all picked up wins.  Michnowicz has won the last two races and now has three wins.  He is the only driver with more than one victory.

In two prior appearances at The PAS this year, Dyer and Michnowicz have picked up the wins.  Both of those races were run on the “Hybrid Track” which uses turns one and two of the inner quarter-mile and turns three and four on the half-mile.  This Saturday night the CLS will be using the full half-mile for the first time in 2014,

At last year’s “Salute to Indy,” Kevin Michnowicz, Bobby’s son, won edged Limon for the prestigious win.  Alex Grigoreas was third.
