MICHNOWICZ WINS ROUND ONE OF THE CLS VS BCRA CIVIL WAR AT BAKERSFIELD!

(Torrance, CA, May 15, 2014) Lomita, California’s Bobby Michnowicz parked his Honda in victory circler at the Bakersfield Speedway last Saturday night in round #1 of the “North vs South Civil War Series” pitting the California Lightning Sprint Cars against the stars and cars of the Bay Cities Racing Association Midget Light division.

Michnowicz, the 2012 CLS champion, driving the T-Shirts by Timeless/Fabozi Metal Works /Pflum/Wagner Honda, came to the front after starting the main event inside the second row.  The victory was Michnowicz’ second in as many weeks and his third of the 2014 campaign.  Silver Lake’s Jeff Dyer came home second in the main event followed by BCRA’s Brian Corso & Bradley Dillard and CLS regular Damon Arnett. Rookie Jeremy Queener of Torrance was the main event “Hard Charger” after moving from 11th to finish sixth.

Dakota Albright, who won the first race at Bakersfield in March, got upside down in the main event, but managed to restart and finished ninth.  Placentia’s Dan Hillberg, winner of the April race at Bakersfield, did not race on Saturday after blowing an engine the previous week at Perris.

Arnett picked up his first fast qualifying time when he toured “The West’s Fastest 1/3 of a Mile High Banked Clay Oval” with a lap of 13.569.  BCRA’s Corso, of Ripon, timed in second with a lap of 13.602 and Albright was third quick at 13.663.  Michnowicz and impressive Corona based rookie Cory Hoover, fresh off his CLS best second place finish at Perris Auto Speedway the week before, captured the heat races.  Unfortunately Hoover’s luck ran out early in the main as he was out on lap six and finished 14th

Next up for the CLS is the Annual Salute to Indy at Perris Auto Speedway on May 24th along with the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, PAS Senior Sprints and the PAS Young Gun Sprint Cars.  Kevin Michnowicz edged Stephen Limon to win the Salute to Indy in 2013.  Alex Grigoreas, who has been out since the second race of 2014, finished third last year.

Heading into the Salute to Indy, Corona’s Limon, the 2013 CLS champ, has a 49-point lead over Dyer in the championship standings.  Bobby Michnowicz, Arnett and Murrieta’s Zach Zauss round out the top five.

The tight race for “Rookie of the Year” continues on with Hoover leading Cori Andrews of Laguna Niguel by 42-points.  Queener is third, a single point behind Andrews

After the first round of the “North vs South Civil War Series,” CLS occupies the first two spots with Bobby Michnowicz and Dyer.  BCRA’s Corso and Dillard are third and fourth with CLS regular Arnett fifth.

The May 31st and August 30th races at Santa Maria have both been removed from the schedule. The CLS is working hard on trying to find an alternative date for round #2 of the “North vs South Civil War Series” that was scheduled for Santa Maria.
