I live in Denver area, so I've learned to live without sprint car racing.  Thinking of a July trip to catch ASCS Nat'l tour at Rapid City on Friday, I-90 on Saturday, then All Stars at Husets Sunday night.  All 3 would be new tracks for me.  Have these historcally been good shows/good car counts.  Do any of the touring ASCS guys support the All Star show?

It's a pretty good haul from here, but there are few choices around here where you can see national level drivers with a reasonable drive.    Any info from those familiar with the SD scene would be appreciated.  Thanks

Ok...thanks!  They should think about taking it off the schedule on their website.

Actually nowhere.

Jackson MN Speedway is running a 360 C.I. Sprint Car special on Saturday July 19 if you want to drive an extra 90 miles east of Sioux Falls.

The ASCS race in Rapid City will be a good one. I used to live there and they have a good field of 360 on Friday nights plus the guys from Montana will come down to along with some east river drivers. I90 is still racing the next night so you could go there and watching some good racing and I would say a few might make the trip there to race.

I 90 is only running its regular Saturday night show (360's - not ASCS sanctioned), Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks B-Mods & 4 cylinders.

Jackson usually runs 6 or more classes of race cars per regular race night from Hobby's, to the 360's.

Jackson gets done in a timely fashion, last week, we were on the road by 930 pm, Hartford, many of times havne't gotten out of there until 1-2am during  weekly shows, very piss poorly ran, normally either Heavy one lane, or good heats, rubber down mains, the track is awesome, and has great potential, but ran horribly, I'd take Jackson over I90 any day, only trips ill make to  Hartford is for special sprint shows. See if anyone chimes in what time they got done lastnight lol Smile

ozzie - that's good to know.   I was leaning toward I90, but i will have my 8 year old son with me, so a well-run show that ends at a decent hour is a big plus.  thanks!

If you want to see sprints and a well run show do yourself a favor and drive another 5 hrs from Sioux Falls to Knoxville for Saturday night.    I'd be a long drive from Rapid City to Knoxville (662 miles, 9.5 hrs according to Google) but worth it if sprint cars is what you want to see.

I've been Hartford a few times and Jackson a few more times.

I've NEVER been impressed with the time that either track has got a show done with.   Both are bad for screwing around and having too many support classes.

I agree the extra 5 hours would be well worth the trip to Knoxville. I understand it may be a little tough with an 8 year old though as that would be another 5 hours in the car on Sunday for the little guy. If I had to choose between the Jackson and I90 (keeping in mind you have an 8 year old) I would go with Jackson. Jackson has their share of late nights but I90 is known for getting over way way late. As far as Sunday night for the All Stars at Husets, you can expect around 30-35 410s and the races to be over between 10:00-11:00. A lot of people like to bash Husets, but other than the WoO show last year, they are very good about getting the races over at a decent time and the track itself can produce some great sprint car racing. Enjoy you road trip!!

Huset's All Star shows the past few years have been some of the best races I've seen.

In general they're better races than the WoO shows have been, IMO.

Huset's usually (not always) gets over with between 10 and 11 but its almost always a LOT closer to 11 than 10.

Even in the spring and fall when they start earlier they manage to jack around long enough to barely get done before 11pm.

I won't argue too much between Jackson/Hartford but my little boys absolutely loved the times I've taken them to Hartford.

I'm convinced that every racetrack needs some playground equipment that is within eye sight of the stands.

thanks guys...I've been to the Knoxville Nationals and I'm trying to plan a trip there this year as well (no kids allowed haha), so no argument that knoxville is awesome.  But this is my little guys first race trip, basically a dry run to see how he likes it in hopes of some "big boy" trips with to bigger/better events in the next couple years as he gets older.  I don't want to wear him out with too much driving on his rookie trip, and I'm basically staying sunday for husets to get a 410 fix without too much extra travel.  really appreciate everyone's input as these are all tracks I've never been too.  thanks!

As the promoters of the race at Black Hills Speedway, thrilled to hear that you are coming up.  We think it will be a great event with a really good car count.  On top of the 10-12 ASCS National regulars, we anticipate good support from Montana and the local Dakota racers should be out in force.

As we are also the promoters of the Jackson Nationals on Labor Day weekend, we always try and support Jackson Speedway.  Jackson will be offering a larger purse that night as it is the conclusion of their speedweek.  In addition, this race is a Minnesota Mafia point races and so the local drivers will be out in force.  It is possible some of the ASCS National drivers will head there for the race as well to prep for the 36th Jackson Nationals on Labor Day weekend.

We should have further updates on both races coming up soon.

Sounds good!  thanks for the info.  Glad to finally get a chance to check out some sprint car racing in the Dakotas.
