According to a Speed Sport News report there were some WoO regulars that didnt like the thought of racing there. I wonder what the reason was? Lower then usual purse? Tight little bullring! I know Saldana and McMahan didnt have good nights and lost their points positions at the top!

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. — The inaugural World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series race at Jacksonville (Ill.) Speedway was sold out for months before Wednesday’s event, but fans purchasing general admission tickets were in line long before the gates opened at 3 p.m.

And more fans signed up for a limited number of VIP tickets that included food, beverage and an autograph session that included Steve Kinser and Brian Brown.

Despite the fact many of the regular WoO competitors were not thrilled with racing at Jacksonville on a Wednesday night, the fans were enthusiastic and grateful for the first appearance of the series at the tiny quarter-mile dirt track, which regularly hosts events for the MOWA sprint cars and POWRi midgets.

• Rico Abreu, who won his first World of Outlaws race earlier this year, was in the pits and lending a helping hand to his Keith Kunz Motorsports midget teammate, Christopher Bell, who ended the night with his first WoO victory.

• Joey Saldana came to Jacksonville tied for the point lead with Paul McMahan, but flipped his No. 71m during hot laps and went to a backup car.

• Hall of Fame sprint car driver Rick Ferkel is spinning the wrenches on Wayne Johnson’s No. 77x.

• Don’t be surprised if seven-time USAC champion Bryan Clauson, who drives for Tony Stewart Racing in non-winged sprint car competition, ends up in the second TSR sprint car next season, replacing Steve Kinser.

Clauson is gaining experience in winged sprint cars this year, racing the No. 82 Blazin Racing sprint car in a limited schedule this year.

•World of Outlaws officials parked former POWRi Midget Series champion Brad Loyet after Loyet was involved in a heat-race crash with teenager Paul Nienhiser. With the cars disabled in turn three, Loyet physically confronted Nienhiser.

• Steve Kinser did a slow roll over in his heat race with the car landing on all four wheels. He was pushed off and resumed the race at the back of the field. He then charged through the field to grab the fourth and final transfer spot for the feature.

• Because of the narrowness of the quarter-mile track, single-file restarts were the order of the night instead of the usual double-file format.

• Veteran sprint car driver Terry Gray was walking the pits at Jacksonville.

• The modified race was a thriller with three wide racing throughout. Jeff Leka took the victory, while NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Justin Allgaier finished third after taking the white flag fifth and winning a three-wide drag race to the checkered flag.

• From Jacksonville, WoO teams headed north for races Friday night at Wilmot (Wis.) Speedway and Saturday at Indiana’s Tri-State Speedway.

Maybe they realized that running on a track like that, evened out the odds from front to back.  That the luck of the draw would not necessarily mean the final results they have come to expect.  Guess what?  They were right.   Too bad.....

The purse probably, they've been complaining about that since they added back in mid-week shows a couple years ago.

I remember when 2 day shows were the norm (yet everyone forgets that the first day had a reduced purse of $4000 - $5000 to win the first night and $10,000 to win the 2nd night back then.

Evened out the odds? There was hardly a local guy in the show! Kudos to Bell on his first win. I think the Outlaws more than lived up to the billing! I would've thought more of the hometowners would have at least made the show.

I bet diesel fuel wasn't $4.00 a gallon and motors didn't cost $50k or better back then either.  I wonder how many folks would be excited if their boss said we're gonna sprinkle some extra work days in.  They're gonna be required attendance and oh by the way, I'm only gonna pay you 60% of your normal salary.  I don't know about most folks but I don't think I'd be all that thrilled about it.

Yet a few years ago the big complaint was:  We're "weekend racers" and we have all these expenses, we need more nights of racing since the hauler's on the road anyway and we have to pay our guys even if we aren't racing.

It's a "no-win" situation, the team owners and drivers complained when they went to weekend shows only that they didn't race enough and now that they have mid-week shows here and there they complain those races don't pay enough.

Bottom line is they can't have it both ways.  Doubtful any of those haulers (except maybe Kinser and Schatz) were heading back to the shop following the races @ Eldora so they were on the road no matter what, an extra night of racing is actually good.

Evened out the odds for the back markers.  They knew they had to 'work' a little bit instead of putting it in cruise control.  You know what I meant.......

Too bad....You run with the Outlaws, you know the schedule.  Suck it up Sally and drive.  And besides, WHY are motors $50,000?  Because they want to have the best of the best, whether they can afford it or not.

^^^ BINGO. Those excited fans who packed the place on a Wednesday night, allow you to do what you love for a living. This has absolutely no corolation to someones 9-5 job, and was a unrealistic referance. You want to start pi$$ing and moaning about having to run mid-week shows and supporting new and local fan bases? then dont complain if they dont show up on the weekend to support you.

Maybe the problem the WOO guys have is that the stands were packed at Jacksonville, they were racing for a 1/2 purse, yet the ticket prices were still full price. Sounds like a rip off, doesn't it?

How do you know they were running for 1/2 purse?  I doubt it very much.

so, 1500 TOTAL seats X $50 per seat = $75,000 - sanction fee $20,000 and purse $31,440 plus whatever expenses they incurred (safety crew, help, insurance, etc.) and that's probably a break-even scenario.  Only $$ they made was profits at the concession and beer stands.

Highly doubt they made a ton of $$$, but if they did I'm happy for them, maybe it will keep them in business or allow them to make upgrades.  It's not like they screwed the racers over, they gave them discounted pit passes (they didn't have to).  if they made $$$, maybe they'll consider having an event on a Friday or Saturday next year (if they can pry those away from SLS promotions).

Mid-week WoO shows only pay 6K to win. Weekend shows pay 10K. That's a well-known fact. Mid-week shows have existed for a long time, so why are they just now bitching? The Outlaws are becoming less and less like outlaws and more and more like crybabies. If they start crying a little more, I'll have to start calling them "Posse"

another misleading post, not one sentence about any woo driver not wanting to be there, I dont blame any 410 driver for not wanting to race on that go kart track, that was the worst 410 race ive ever seen, I love bull rings and close racing but that was just stupid and boring, I doubt it had anything to do with purses or any of the other BS you haters try throw out. If you can honestly say you thought that was a good race your lying to yourself. I love dirt track racing but that was more like rush hour traffic on a clover leaf, 13 second laps on a quarter mile , LAME.

To me the best tracks for 410 winged cars are tracks between 1/3 and 4/10 mile.  Any smaller is kind of a joke as they can't open it up and any bigger they tend to get strung out single file. I do like to see them wind it out on a half-mile as the speeds are thrilling and occasionally you see a good race but I prefer something a little smaller, high-banked and wide.

wilmot tonight should be great racing, not much banking but 1/3 mile track should make for some good close racing with a little speed on the straights, $50,000 engines wont win this one either should be a driver/ setup track for sure.

FYI - they've been racing Sprint cars at Jacksonville for decades. Alway tight and exciting racing -- if you don't like it don't go and allow someone who wants to go have a spot. It was sold out FAR in advance... and an excellent event.
