For Immediate Release

CALIFORNIA LIGHTNING SPRINT CARS RETURN TO PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY SATURDAY!

(Torrance, CA, April 30, 2014)  The California Lightning Sprint Car Series will return to its home track, Perris Auto Speedway, for the second of nine 2014 appearances this Saturday night, May 3rd.  Joining the CLS on the all open wheel program will be the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, PAS Senior Sprints and The PAS Young Gun Sprints.  Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM and the action packed program will start at 7:00.

Saturday’s show at “The Southern California Home of Major League Sprint Car Racing,” will be the sixth race of the year for the CLS.  The previous five races have produced five different winners.  Lomita’s Bobby Michnowicz won at El Centro, Jeff Dyer of Silver Lake won at The PAS, defending series champ Stephen Limon of Corona won at Ventura while Northern California’s Dakota Albright and Placentia’s Dan Hillberg have taken the two races at Bakersfield.  Hillberg’s win came two weeks ago and it propelled him back into the point lead for the second time in 2014.

Hillberg went into the Bakersfield affair 10-points behind Limon, but when the final checkered flag waved, his victory combined with Limon’s fourth place finish, saw him leave with a 12-point advantage in the championship standings.  Dyer is third in the chase, 69-points behind Hillberg, with third year San Diego CLS racer Damon Arnett fourth and rookie Jeremy Queener of Torrance fifth.

Queener, 28, leads the “Rookie of the Year” standings over Corey Hoover of Corona and Laguna Niguel’s Cori Andrews.  The 2005 Perris Auto Speedway Street Stock Champion and “Rookie of the Year,” had a career best CLS second place finish behind Hillberg at Bakersfield.

The stars of the CLS will have little time to rest on their laurels after Saturday’s race as they travel back to Bakersfield for the first round of the “North vs South Civil War Series” featuring the CLS vs BCRA, on May 10th.

The California Lightning Sprint Car Series would like to thank series sponsors Performance by Rosson Racing, T Shirts by Timeless, Cold Fire West, Circle Track Performance, Extreme Mufflers, Racing Optics, Saldana Race Products, Keizer Wheels, Sander Engineering, Christian Stover Foundation, Hoosier Racing Tires, Drake Incorporated and DK Machine.  If you or your company would like to become part of the California Lightning Series for the 2014 season, please call Bobby Michnowicz at: (310) 320-5569.
