I am based in south eastern Wisconsin and I'm trying to find tracks in the surrounding areas that run 305's.. Anyone know where to run besides Knoxville and Burlington IA?

They are all a long way away. I am from the Chicagoland area and make the pull to Burlington several times a year to run a 305. I wish that a Wisconsin track would pick them up. I would stay in this area in a heartbeat if a budget class would start that was closer to home. The 305 deal at Jacksonville really isn't a 305 deal, or at least it has not been in the past. Too many options for engines for it to be considered a legitimate 305 deal.

Sprinter79 you could drop in a 360 and run with the msa thats the budget class in Wisconsin, we could always use more cars up here.

It'd be a pretty good drive, but LA Raceway in La Monte, MO runs winged 305s for their "weekly" program. They're running 2 to 3 weekends a month. There haven't been many cars the first couple weeks but I think more will show up as the season progresses. You can find their schedule on their website. laraceway.com

We run IMCA Racesaver 305's weekly on Saturdays at Eagle Raceway. $700 to win.

We had 40 305's last Saturday if I remember correctly.

I am lucky enough to work at one of the best tracks
anywhere.

Good call dirtguy, you have Manitowoc and Plymouth that run them weekly... probably average 21 at Manitowoc and has to be near 30 at Plymouth. Have seen competitive steel MSA motors, with injection, goingfor around 8-10k. Long blocks minus injection for $5,500. In my opinion, an overall cheaper motor to run and maintain than a 305. Check out the MSA rule book for more.

Actually if i remember correctly... MSA had a 305 car of Jeff Wilke, also from illlionis who now tows to Knoxville to run 305,
run a night at Manitowoc last year. The night was ultimately rained out.... but i believe he finished 4th in his heat, on a somewhat larger track. You may be able to compete for a top ten at Plymouth in a 305 given the 3/8 mile and dry slick. Worth a shot! Better payout than a 305 haul too.

Actually when I first built the car in 2007 for my daughter it was set up to run with The MSA with the 360 in it. Then we went to Plymouth and I was not to pleased with the way that the track was set up at the time. I felt that Burlington was a safer facility for beginning drivers. It is also the same distance for me to travel as Burlington, so if it is the same distance and the facility is safer to run at I did not see any reason to change.  I was not happy with the large concrete or stone blocks that they had just sitting there along the back stretch.  We wanted to start at Wilmot, but The MSA dropped that track.

As for the MSA and 305's, unless they have changed thier position on the subject you are not allowed to run a 305 with them. I have contacted them about it and they have said absolutely not. We wanted to do that in 2010 and they shot the idea down point blank. If they have a 305 running with them now I would be surprised.

Yeah, if you get a chance, maybe track down Wilke and see what he says in regards to how he got it to go through. I remember alot of guys going up to the fence to watch him, to see how the 305 would stack up. Like I said I believe he finished 4th in the heat, then some wicked storms blew in, and it was cancelled. He was originally going to haul to Knoxville that weekend with it, but the weather looked dicey there as well so he came to Manitowoc. I see he won his heat #1 last week with it in Knoxville. As far as why the MSA would outlaw a 305 would be interesting in hearing the argument... You may want to contact EWSC (Manitowoc) and PDTR (Plymouth) to see what their stance is... maybe rules for the track you would be ok, but you couldnt be part of the MSA points fund and membership, which I think is a joke anyways, but thats besides the point. The track at Plymouth has been lengthened a bit this year, but I would bet a 305 would run mid pack with the right driver... i watched a MSA 360 finish 4th at the IRA race there last year for gods sake.... and thats giving up at least 200hp. A strong 305 should only be giving up 100 to a MSA motor.

I was told that it would not be fair for a car to come in that did not fit the rules and run well enough to take away a position on the track from a car that was rule compliant and a member of the club. In other words they did not want to have a member who was running for points potentially lose positions to a non member who was running a car that was not rule compliant. That actually made complete sense to me. I have more respect for a club that protects its membership and I did not have a problem with that answer. We ended up running Wilmot in 2012 with our 360 Invader engine during one of thier 410 shows. I sold my MSA set up to run the 305, so we just never bothered with the MSA again. I might have to look into going to Manitowoc this year though, if they are allowing the 305 to run there now.

If I thought that they would support it I would bring 3 - 305 cars to Wilmot for a weekly program. That would get the deal started anyway. We would have to run under Burlington rules as I am not spending another dime on 305 engines, but we could get the ball rolling on a weekly program.  Wishfull thinking really.

That would be great if you could jump start it around Wisconsin. It may take a few 3 years to get some steam, but I bet it would quickly become a large class. Kind of like the sport mods around here.... they're everywhere now. I know briefly that 141 Speedway in Francis Creek had tossed around the 305 idea 2 years ago, but nothing came of it as the track was recently sold. Maybe that idea could be resurected, but thats another half hour north of Manitowoc for you, so it would be a haul. If you could get Wilmot on board, you may pull some of those 360 MSA guys who are on a shoe string motor budget. Would be the perfect track to introduce them, outside of Beaver Dam. wish you luck!

Technically not 305's but the UMSS traditional (non-wing) Sprints run an alky carburator on what's essentially a B Mod motor similar to what they're running in the Midwest Mods.  Not sure how far you are from Saint Croix Falls (about an hour northeast of St. Paul, MN) but the class is becoming very popular.  If you're over on the eastern side of the state it's probably almost as far as Burlington so that probably wouldn't work.

des moines on friday nights is going to be a good deal. $750 to win $225 or $250 to start. its a racesaver deal but they said they will let any 305 run just have to put a restrictor deal on your injection stacks.
