My Aussie friend Steve Timmis asked me to post this press release regarding an Aussie (Yanks are invited!) gathering this week at Knoxville. (By the way, a VB is an Aussie beer, I think it's actually Victoria Bitter but I was introduced to it as "Vitamin B."
I've said it before and I'll say it again...if you can't have fun with these guys, you're not trying hard enough. Hope to see everyone there!

The Hyvee grocery store in Knoxville Iowa will throw a
special Aussie Barbecue on the Friday of the 2007 Knoxville Nationals, and the
invitation is open to all Aussie travellers, revellers and Americans alike to
come on over and blow the froth off a VB or two.
From noon on the Friday of this year’s Nationals the
Hyvee hospitality will extend to wayward Aussies and their yankee mates with a
special serving of lamb chops and ice cold VB.
The idea was hatched between the Hyvee proprietor and
Mildura’s Steve Timmis during a late night – erm – beer or three at Dingus
lounge last year and the promise to ‘turn one on near turn one’ was made good
only a few weeks ago when the two touched base once more.
“Its basically a chance for all the Aussie fans and
whatever teams can make it, to get together and have a beer or two over a lamb
chop and a World Series DVD,” says Timmis, “you’re all
invited.”
Indeed Aussie Sprintcar champion Brooke Tatnell has
pledged his support of the event and hopes to attend the BBQ if his schedule
allows.
“Hyvee supported my team last year when we won the best
presented team at the Nationals,” says Brooke, “so if my schedule is even half
open with what we need to do on the racecar I’ll be there.”
The Hyvee grocery store and it’s special under cover
hospitality area for this inaugural Aussie BBQ is located directly across the
street from the Knoxville Raceway’s turn one.
See you there!
