I decided to watch the last 100 laps of the "race" yesterday.  (I say "race" because it looked more like group time trials until the 88 ran out of gas)   I fell asleep somewhere in those last laps to wake and see the last 5--which weren't all that bad.  The rest of what I saw was not the least bit entertaining--with the exception of DW trying to convince everyone that Danica was running really well in 31st place.  ?

Anyways, it dawned on me why these races had become so terrible.  (I always thought it was the COT car)  Back when the drivers had to come get tires before fuel was when the cars were passing each other.  Now, you can run 2 tires for the last 50 laps of any of these races and not get caught by 4 tires.   They only stop for fuel now--oh and by the way, while your in lets give you some tires.

If they want to have better racing--since this form of racing is a marathon and not a sprint--they need to make the fuel cell hold enough fuel for 60 laps but the tires will only hold out for 40-50 laps running them at full speed.  Then you have some strategy and shuffling in the late stages of a run.  Also, there will be more gambling going on if there is a stop with 15 laps to go--like there was in the 80's and 90's.  That would equalize the "aero push" problem.

my two cents.

TSR had a terrible day at LasVegas.  Danica was best at 21 st-Kurt 26-Tony 33-Kevin 41

I know they did.  Obviously not all her but it's still a hoot when he tries to make it sound like she's turning the corner every week as soon as the cracks the top 35.  HAHA

to me NASCAR is boring becuase there is no sense of urgency for the drivers.

Car isn't good, don't do anything yourself to try to "drive" the car, we'll hope for a caution and make adjustments.  If we're a lap down, we'll hope for a caution for the "lucky dog" and get back on the lead lap.

I agree, their tires are TOO GOOD.  they don't drop off and NASCAR seems to relish in the fact that the tires are great.  Make those suckers wear out so they have to "drive" the car.  I think some of the frontrunners would still be up there (Johnson, Kyle Busch, Kenseth, Gordon, Stewart), but some others wouldn't know how to handle a loose racecar with worn out tires (Biffle, Hamlin, Lagano, Keselowski).

They may even become fun to watch if the "drivers" had more input than 5% (it's 95% car right now according to pretty much all the drivers)

To me a large portion is the car (and has been for years).   When adding or removing a piece of duct tape is the difference between a bad and good handling car, then I believe the cars are too aerodynamic.

I also think the tracks are not very exciting.   Bring back the short tracks where there was a little more pushing and shoving.  I also liked Rockingham because it ate up the tires and guys had to decide if they should short pit or not.

I like your idea... AND... I wish the formula you described applied to IndyCars... shave the total cost of the cars 210 at Indy would be plenty fast, but bring back the American open wheel stars to the 500! Back to your idea for NASCAR, love it

i AM DIFFERENT, i HATE SHORT TRACKS BUT ALSO i VERY MUCH DISLIKE RESTRICTOR PLATE RACING.  tO TAKE A 800 HP ENGINE AND STRANGLE IT DOWN TO 450 HP MAKES NO SENSE.

NASCAR used to be great, but not anymore. One factor is the it's all car, hardly the driver. Where's their incentive? They are all millionaires whether they finish first or fortieth. The racing is horrible, mostly single file ( with exception of short tracks)

Agree about the tape thing, the aero thing is getting out of hand. It's definitely not what it once was.

Nascar is finally right where it wants to be...Earnhardt racing for the win.

DW can barely contain his cheerleading...

Lincoln 1845 ft/.35 mile T1=118MPH
Eldora 2287 ft/.43mile T3=135MPH
Port 2716 ft/.51 mile T3=TBD
Grove 2792 ft/.53 mile T3=135MPH
Selinsgrove 2847 ft/.54 mile T1=136MPH

Just think what will happen if Danica and Jr. ever get side by side fighting to get back to the line!  He will collapse!  Of course Jr. will have to drop back a lap in order for that to happen but wouldn't that be something!

Nothing's going to change until the stands are empty and no one is watching on TV. Go back to the old ways, get rid of DW, Mikey & Hammond and you may have something. As long as the fans are still falling for this crap racing, NASCAR is not going to do anything. How long has "The Chase" been around? How many changes to "The Chase" have their been? Nuff Said.

For me, I can sum up the problems with NASCAR in three words:

Restrictor plates

CHASE   Frown

Have not watched a complete race since Brian instituted the stupid CHASE....and won't as long as they have it!  Frown

They were good when they ran real  cars with boxy front ends & no spoilers like the early 70s Monte Carlos. They are no longer the National Assoiation of STOCK CAR auto racing. It kills me when they call this crap they race now a Ford or Chevy etc. The inconsistant rules enforcement and mystery debries cautions has destroyed their integrity. How can tv cameras not find the debries when a man or a red safety truck has to go on to the track to pick it up?

And they had to manufacture a set number of cars before they could run them. Remember the stink about 1963 and a 1/2 Ford and Mercury fastback?
