LAS VEGAS HOSTS USAC “GRUDGE SERIES” OPENER MARCH 6TH
By Lance Jennings

PEORIA, AZ – FEBRUARY 27, 2014... On Thursday, March 6th, the powerful USAC SouthWest and West Coast Sprint Cars will invade The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Sponsored by Hoosier Tire and the Hose Advantage Store, the $2,500-to-win "3rd Annual Sin City Showdown" will kick-off the three-race “Grudge Series" and will feature drivers from Arizona, California, and New Mexico. The famed World of Outlaw Sprint Cars and IMCA Modifieds will share the spotlight as the spectator gates will open at 5:00pm with racing scheduled for 6:15pm.

Held during NASCAR weekend, the "Sin City Showdown" is special non-point event for the SouthWest Sprints and opens the chase for the West Coast championship. Bud Kaeding won the inaugural event in 2012 and went on the claim the West Coast crown. Last season, USAC National Champion Bryan Clauson piloted Mike Martin’s team car to the 25-lap main event victory. As this writing goes to press, promoters Kevin Montgomery and Chris Kearns are looking for additional sponsorship to increase the “Grudge Series” point fund.

After winning Canyon’s “Brawl For It All” and the “360 Oval Nationals” at Perris, Mike Spencer of Temecula, California won the “Grudge Series” championship. Driving Mark Priestley’s #7 Roy Miller Freight Lines / Sander Engineering Maxim, the five-time USAC/CRA champion also scored fourteenth in last year “Sin City Showdown.” Spencer will be one of the favorites to watch as he goes for the $2,500 Las Vegas jackpot.

Phoenix, Arizona’s R.J. Johnson had a career season in 2013, earning the USAC SouthWest crown and claiming second in the “Grudge Series.” Racing Bill Michaels’ #77M Kodiak Products / Beal’s Auto Body Sherman, Johnson was second at Las Vegas, scored fifteenth at Canyon, and ran sixth at Perris. R.J. will be looking to start his season with a nice payday in Las Vegas.

Shon Deskins of Phoenix, Arizona ranked third in the mini-series point chase. Piloting his #20 Spike sponsored by Performance Plus, Deskins set a new 1-lap qualifying track record at Canyon Speedway. In the three races, the veteran driver ran fifth at Las Vegas, claimed fourth at Canyon, and scored twenty-second at Perris. On March 6th, Shon will have his sights on adding the “Sin City Showdown” to his win list.

Buckeye, Arizona’s “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. set a new 1-lap track record at Perris and took fourth in the “Grudge Series” points. Driving the Massey Motorsports #50 RSS Industries / Rod End Supply RSS, the five-time Arizona Champion was sixth at Las Vegas, placed fifth at Canyon, and scored seventeenth at Perris. “Chargin” Charles will be looking to score the $2,500 victory at Las Vegas.

“The Magic Man” Mike Martin from Yuma, Arizona placed fifth in the mini-series standings. Racing his #16 PPG Pittsburg Paints / Ultimate Offroad Maxim, Martin claimed tenth at Las Vegas, Canyon, and Perris. “The Magic Man” will have his sights adding the Las Vegas winner's trophy to his collection.

Bryan Clauson, Richard Vander Weerd, Ryan Bernal, Colby Copeland, and Brody Roa rounded out the top-10 in “Grudge Series” points. Other drivers expected to be in action are “The Radio Flyer” Bruce St. James, “The Kruser” Cory Kruseman, Jace Vander Weerd, Josh Pelkey, “The Bakersfield Bullet” Rusty Carlile, “Hollywood” Danny Faria Jr., Andy Reinbold, and many more.

The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is located twelve miles north of downtown Las Vegas, Nevada off Interstate 15 at Exit 54 (Speedway Blvd). The pit gate will open at 2:00pm and more event information can be found at www.lvms.com/dirt or calling (702) 644-4444. It's too bad they can't come up with some $$$ to make it worth while for the cars to tow over there.  $2,500 to win isn't that big of a deal!
