A Couple of Firsts Highlight 2014 Lawton Speedway Schedule!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Midwest City, Oklahoma – January 23, 2014 - Over 50 years of dirt track racing has been run at the famed Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Oklahoma and during that time, many different special events and sanctioning bodies have competed on Lanny and Beverly Edwards red clay quarter mile oval. With the release of their 2014 track schedule, add two more sanctioning bodies to that list. These, coupled with regular tour appearances by the American Sprint Car Series and Oil Capital Racing Series, will have dirt track fans of forms of racing putting the speedway on their “must visit” list.
Along with some very special events, yet another year of weekly Saturday night racing is set with the tracks divisions of; championship sprints, USA modifieds, USA limited modifieds, mini stocks and factory stocks. The first and only practice and registration night will take place on Saturday night, March 29th. The season opener is set for April 5th. The track will be closed on Easer weekend (April 19th) and then will be racing each and every Saturday night until the season comes to an end with the annual Lawton Speedway Winter Nationals on October 3-4.
The ASCS Sooner region will be the first special event on the 2014 race schedule and will take place on May 3rd. Other Sooner region dates are; July 19th and August 23rd (with Lone Star Region).
For the third year in a row the Lucas Oil ASCS National tour will bring their speedweek tour to the speedway on Wednesday night, June 18th.
The Tulsa based Oil Capital Racing Series will tackle the quarter mile oval on May 31st.
If you are a modified fan or just love competitive racing, the stars of the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) will make their first ever appearance at the speedway on Thursday night, May 15th. The top modfied drivers from not only the state of Oklahoma but the Midwest are expected for this much anticipated event.
For something totally different in the state of Oklahoma and that has caught on big time in Eastern Texas, the Texas Winged Modified Tour will make their first ever Oklahoma appearance on August 16th.
