Overshadowed by the resurgent of Fast Freddie is possibly an even greater one:  Congrats to Don Kreitz Jr, Davey Brown, and the 69K team for 2014 in general!  Having not been introduced to sprint cars when Kreitz was one of the local greats, I had only heard about some of his drives.  I feel very fortunate to stand witness to those nights this year when the track went slick, the rest of the field went to the extreme bottom or extreme top, and Donnie went by them through the middle.

LatshPA-I'm glad you are having the opportunity to see Donald Kreitz as he truly was in the early 1990's.  There were quite a few lean years for him between then and now and as a fan I began to doubt him.  The All-Star show this year at WG, starting 10th, he had the lead in about 10 laps and the race was over.  Port Royal, same thing, although he started up front, it wouldnt have mattered, same as this past Saturday starting from 10th, it may as well have been 20th, he still wouldve won.  I've said it to many and it bears repeating, in my opinion, I dont care who it is he is racing against, if his car is right he beats anyone.  I know that is a mouthful, but it is my opinion so I guess I'm entitled to it.  There are many examples of this over the years and even once again as you are getting to witness with this awesome resurgence Donald has had.  Typically when he wins a race, it is a complete thrashing of the field.  But he is the type of driver that needs his car right otherwise he is a mid-top 10 car, that might be because he is simply intelligent enough to know when he has a winning car and when he doesnt.  I hope he races for a long time, we're blessed to witness a legend!

Perhaps his best win and certainly one of my fondest memories was my planned first of many trips to Eldora - but yet the only trip - the 1986 Kings Royal!

I'll start off by saying that I'm not from PA and I've never even attended races anywhere near there.

That said, I know of all of the PA guys (the older ones, at least) thanks to TNN and the old version of Speed Sport News... you know, the one that you had to wait a week or two for?

Seeing Don Kreitz's name here recently, along with Rahmer's, has been great. I, too, remember hearing and seeing a few masterful performances by Kreitz on ultra dry slick tracks that made my head spin as much as everyone else's tires were. I remember thinking that he seemed like a really good guy and even though I was watching mainly for the outlaws, I enjoyed rooting for the under dogs.

I know, I know... you PA guys don't consider them under dogs. Smile

Along with Rahmer and Kreitz, I have also heard and seen more of the older names pop up, like Bobby Allen (through Logan Schuchart), Cris Eash (article below), and others. Sadly of course, one was also Kramer Williamson.

Good to see them getting recognition, at least for the memorable careers that they've had. Need more of that on these boards... as opposed to the always easy negativity.

Eash article...

Rervousneck,
Well said, and thank you!

Not dissing any other region, but the history and tradition of sprint car racing in Pennsylvania is second to none. True, some of us are prouder of it than perhaps we should be Smile.

Their are many, many good drivers but perhaps the most memorable career of all, and the man who has been a big part of that history and tradition, is Mr. Kreitz's confidant, Davey Brown.  At 80 something, he's still going strong - still walks out towards the backstretch to listen to his motors every time they are on the track.

The drivers get their rightful laurels but Davey Brown is the man! What a fantastic career!
