CALIFORNIA LIGHTNING SPRINT CARS AT VENTURA RACEWAY SATURDAY!
(Placentia, CA, October 15, 2013) The California Lightning Sprint Car Series will take its final road trip of 2013 when it journey’s to Jim Naylor’s scenic Ventura Raceway this Saturday night, October 19th. Joining the CLS on the “Ribbons of Life Night” program will be the VRA Sprint Cars, Senior Sprints, Dwarf Cars, Sport Compacts, Junior Midgets and Mini Dwarfs. Spectator gates at the ocean side oval will open at 3:00 PM and the first race will be at 5:30.
Third year CLS racer Steve Limon of Corona lugs a 62-point lead over Placentia veteran Dan Hillberg heading into Saturday’s competition. However, Hillberg has hacked 24-points off Limon’s advantage in the last two races. After Saturday’s contest at Ventura, the championship fight will switch to the Budweiser Oval Nationals Presented by All Coast Construction at Perris Auto Speedway on November 1st and 2nd for the final two rounds in the championship fight.
Another mêlée in the top five in the standings is the scrap for third between former 410 sprint car drivers Bobby Michnowicz of Lomita and Lakewood’s Tom Downing. Michnowicz, last year’s champion who leads the series with six victories this season, is only 25-points ahead of Downing.
Second year CLS driver Damon Arnett of San Diego is fifth, but he had better not look over his shoulder. Silver Lake’s Jeff Dyer and “The Flyin’ Jew,” Zach Zauss of Murrieta, are deadlocked for sixth and are lurking only 46-points behind Arnett. Dyer won his first ever CLS main event at the series last race at the Bakersfield Speedway on September 28th. Guy Maresch of Anaheim Hills, Anaheim’s Dale Gamer and San Clemente rookie Ronnie Hancock round out the top 10 in the championship standings.
In 2013, cars in the CLS are carrying transponders and they will qualify at all events. The driver with the most fast qualifying times at the end of the season will win the “Cold Fire West Qualifying Championship” and will pocket an extra $500.00. Another new sponsor to the series this season is Extreme Muffler. They will sponsor the “Extreme Muffler Heat Race Championship” and the driver with the most heat race wins will collect a $500.00 check.
The California Lightning Sprint Car Series would like to thank series sponsors Christian Stover Foundation, Rod End Supply, Cold Fire West, Sander Engineering, Saldana Race Products, DK Machining and Fabrication, Keizer Aluminum Wheels, Hoosier Racing Tires, Circle Track Performance, Extreme Muffler, Performance by Rosson Racing, Electro Tech Powder Coating, Oil Twins Amsoil and Haul Ass Fuel.
