Justin Sanders Wins Wild Ocean Sprints Presented by Taco Bravo Feature

(Watsonville, CA)- After getting into the wall on the 10th lap while running in the second spot, Justin Sanders came from the back of the pack to win the Ocean Sprints Presented by Taco Bravo feature event on Friday night.

When the green flag dropped on the feature, it was Fresno, CA driver, Koen Shaw jumping out to the early lead, with Justin Sanders and Carson Macedo in tow.

On the fifth lap, Sanders and Macedo were battling hard, and as Macedo bicycled, and saved it, Sanders got a piece, and got up into the wall, and the red flag flew as Kurt Nelson took a nasty ride.

With Macedo, and Nelson’s night over, and Sanders at the rear, Bud Kaeding took over the second spot, and made quick work of Shaw on the start as he took the lead.

With Kaeding up front, focus was on a hard charging, and visiting,  Jonathan Allard who had worked his way up inside the top five from his 11th starting spot.

With Kaeding up front, and Allard working into the third spot, Sanders was working back up through the field as he found himself just outside of the top five when the caution flew with 14 laps completed.

The restart saw Allard get past Shaw to take over second, as he began working on Kaeding only to see the caution fly on the 17th lap, for Brad Furr and DJ Netto, Furr would restart.

The ensuing restart got exciting as Kaeding and Allard began dicing it up as they battled for the top spot, on a very racy Ocean Speedway.

With Sanders working up into the third spot on the 20th lap, the lead duo had slowly checked out, until trouble broke out.

On the 23rd lap amidst lapped traffic, Allard got the lead exiting turn four, and getting into turns one and two, the duo made contact, resulting in Kaeding getting upside down, and Allard with damage, bringing out the red flag, and handing the lead to Sanders.

With just six-to-go when the green light’s flickered back on, Sanders would go on to pick up the win, taking the checkers over Shaw, Nick Rescino, Mitchell Faccinto, who was making his first career start at the speedway, and Jeremy Chisum rounding out the top five.

“What a night,” Sanders said. “We had a great car, and got into a bit of trouble early in the feature. My guys did a great job getting the car fixed, and we were able to work back up front and grab a win here at Ocean!”

To kick off the night, Brad Furr took home the Ray Scheidts Electric Fast Time Award, as he set a new track record.

Heat race wins went to Eric Humphries, Carson Macedo, andAndy Forsberg, while Nick Foster, Jr earned DDNI Hard Charger honors, and Kurt Nelson was unfortunately awarded the Beer Optics Hard Luck Award.
