LEFFLER RETURNS TO SILVER CROWN SERIES FOR THURSDAY’S “J.D. BYRIDER 100” at O.R.P.

Jason Leffler hasn’t competed in USAC Silver Crown racing for two years and he’s never driven the new generation pavement car, but Thursday night’s “J.D. Byrider 100” at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis will change all that.

Leffler, who finished second to Bobby East at O.R.P. in 2005, is slated to drive for PDM Racing in Thursday’s 100-lap race on the challenging .686-mile paved oval. The 1998 Silver Crown Champion and three-time USAC National Midget Champion will be competing against East and the rest of the Silver Crown contingent in a C & R/Chevy in an attempt to score his seventh series triumph.

In 2005 Leffler won the pole at O.R.P. one of seven he’s earned in his Silver Crown career. He also owns the O.R.P. Silver Crown record of 121.667 mph, set in 2000.

Five USAC Midget and two USAC Silver Crown wins make O.R.P. one of Jason’s favorite venues. Currently fifth in the NASCAR Busch Series standings, he owns one O.R.P. Busch pole and also plans to compete in this week’s “Kroger SpeedFest” Kroger 200 Busch race at the Indianapolis oval.

Leffler’s primary challengers at O.R.P. on Thursday will include Silver Crown point leader Wayne Reutimann Jr., defending series champion Bud Kaeding and NASCAR vets A.J. Fike, Brian Tyler, P.J. Jones, Cameron Dodson and East, as well as Aaron Pierce, who, like Tyler, already has a 2007 pavement victory to his credit.

Thursday’s timetable has practice from 5:30-6:30 and qualifying at 7, followed by an autograph session. The “J.D. Byrider 100” starts at 8:30 pm.
