Nier, Markham, Berwanger and Martin Victorious at the
Grand Re-opening at The Atomic Speedway
In a stellar grand re-opening night field of 36 410cubic inch winged warriors young gun Cole Duncan set the pace early with a qualifying lap of 11.558 which was an average speed of over 115mph on the high banks. Duncan then went on to win his heat race only to had his engine expire as he completed the final set of corners and take the checkered and end his night early. Then, after 4 fantastic heat races and a pair of amazing b-mains the field was set with 20 of the winged warriors. At the drop of the green Jimmy Nier moved out in front of Danny Smith and young gun Sam Ashworth as they then proceeded to run 25 non-stop laps in what had to be one of the quickest ran features in the history of the track. As these three were playing their own version of Runaway, Blake Feese, Todd Kane and Aaron Higgins were putting on a great show as they battled for position. As they had all this action going on the hard charger was Wes McGlumphy who started 20th and charges to finish 11th and Jimmy Stinson started 15th and finished 7th
Sprint Fast Time: Cole Duncan 11.558
Heats: Cole Duncan, Danny Smith, Jim Nier, Blake Feese and Sam Ashworth
B-Mains: Greg Mitchell and Hud Horton
Feature: Nier, Smith, Ashworth, Feese, Higgins, Kane, Stinson, Mitch Harble, Ryan Broughton, Ron Blair, Wes McGlumphy, Kory Crabtree, Shawn Hubler, Greg Mitchell, Kirk Jeffries, Nathan Skaggs, Hud Horton, Nick Robert, Eddie Sloan and Jesse McCreary
Ryan Markham set the Late Model pace early as he completed the Sweep as he made the trip from Ashland Ohio to set fast time, then win his heat race and bring home the checkers in the feature. However, the feature was a lot more work as the always fast Mark Frazier looked right back at home as he was with a car length of Markham for most of the race. The other racer putting on a show was Jackson Ohio’s Greggie Oliver as he used the Atomic Slide Job to take the lead for a couple laps early only to have the car push as he went into corner 3 and loose the top spot as Markham and Frazier got by him. As all this action was happening up in front Ralph Withem was piloting his Swartz chassised racer from 17th starting spot to finish in 8th for the hard charger award.
Late Model Fast Time: Ryan Markham 13.872
Heats: Ryan Markham, Greggie Oliver and Kevin Layne
Feature: Ryan Markham, Mark Frazier, Greggie Oliver, Kevin Layne, Mike Wilson, Russ Frohnapfel, Brandon Conkel, Ralph Withem, Mick Sanson, Jeremy Akers, Willie Bigham, Hiram Bachmann, Randy Wynett, Brian Eaton, Keith Berner, Ky Harper, Bud Frazier, Mike Davis Brandon Thompson and Matt Robinette

In the AMRA Modfieds the action was fast and furious and it started at the drop of the green in all 4 heat races. Then at the drop of the green in the feature The Murray City Bandit, Jeremy Berwanger and Always Worth the Price of Admission, Kenny Johnson put on another of their amazing side by side battles, and as it went on Johnson went from running the low side to putting it up where his fans love to see him run, right against the wall, however on this night it was Berwanger with that patented Berwanger smooth driving it right through the middle of the race track line that would prevail on this night. Fireball Pinkerton lived up to his name tonight as he overcame an early inspection issue to transfer from the b-main and start in 18th position and bring his racer home in the 4th spot earning him the hard charger award for his race.
Modified Heats: Kenny Johnson, Rob Stambaugh, Dan Ebert and Jeremy Berwanger
B-Main: Aaron Pendleton
Feature: Jeremy Berwanger, Kenny Johnson, Dan Ebert, Dave Pinkerton, JP Roberts, Booger Garnes, Brian Whiteman, Sean Schoebeloch, Matt Holcomb, Greggie Oliver, Bob Crace Jr, Cliff Crank, Jason Cottrill, Donnie Miller, Derrick Smith, Aaron Pendleton, Eric Arledge, Pete Brunton, Jason Montgomery and Rob Stambaugh
A respectable field of racers showed up and put on a show in the new Sport Mod class especially up front as Harley Martin and Danny Hamilton put on a epic battle for the entire feature race , twice Hamilton got his racer into the lead position only to have it brought back due to a caution on the speedway. At the end it was Martin, Hamilton and Chris Shelton as the top 3, with Dwayne Hurley as the race hard charger.
SportMod Heats: Harley Martin and Danny Hamilton
SportMod Feature: Harley Martin, Danny Hamilton, Chris Shelton, Weston Crosby, Dwayne Hurley, Billy Lanthorn, Steve Nobile, Mark Noel, Emily Jordan and Rick Neace

Great to see This track open again,,,been to tracks from east coast to west and as far as racing it is in my top ten . The right size and banking to fit my perfect track! Never seen a bad race there. It sets right in the middle of Sprint car and Late Model fan zones so the mix is more alluring to success. Hoping for the best and I will be going back as soon as I can. Good luck to the new owners you will have my support!

Very happy to see it reopened and under the original name.  Spent many nights there and loved that track.  Living on the West coast now and won't get to see any races ther.  I wish the new owners/promoters the very best of luck going forward.

Just sitting here and can almost see Dean Knittle, Sam Irwin, Bobby Morgan and many others out there.

There were over 30 vehicles that the tires were slashed on in the parking lot during opening night.

Very very low classless act.

Took a little away from what was a very nice re-opening to Atomic Speedway.

Also, the reward is now up to $1500 we would love to catch the persons or persons responsible.

No luck at all as of yet.

With the reward now being over $1500 hopefully someone will do the right thing & turn the person or persons in that were responsible.

Completley ridiculous that you cannot simply go enjoy an evening of racing with your friends or family without this typw of non-sense!
