SANTA MARIA GRAND SLAM INFORMATION
BY CLIFF MORGAN - VRA Director of Competition

Information post for this weekend's event at Santa Maria.

I spoke with Dave Swindell, Santa Maria promoter, yesterday and he told me that the pits will open at 1:00pm on Saturday. Pit prices will be $35.00 for Competitors or members of VRA or Bandits. General pit passes will be $45.00 for non-members and general public pit passes. Be sure to bring you membership cards to show if they request.

Some More General Information:

1. Remember you MUST have ASCS Gaskets, VRA 180 Mufflers, Hoosier RC3 or VRA right rear, RC1 or harder left rear. D12's are ok, but RD12's are not as they are softer than the RC1 per my discussion with Hoosier.
2. The approved Gaskets, Mufflers and tires are required, so if you show up without them you will have to purchase them that day, if available, and put them on. No exceptions, as these rules have been out for over several months, so do not plead ignorance of the rules.
3. Fuel and tires will be available at the track.
4. Remember the weight rule of 1500lbs with driver at the end of the night's racing. We will have scales to weigh the top finishing cars that night.
5. The Format for the night will be posted at the track on Saturday. It will include warm-ups, qualifying, A last chance race depending on final car count, heat races, two semi mains and a 22 car 30 lap feature.
6. There is no race entry fee for this event other than pit pass entry fee as listed above.
7. This is race two of four. The next race in the series will be at Santa Maria on October 13 and the final race will be October 27 at Ventura Raceway.
8. We will discuss these items and any other issues at the driver's meeting on Saturday.

If you have any questions, please call 805-985-5433x115 after 4pm or email me at [email protected]

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BAKERSFIELD’S JOHN LOWREY AFTER SECOND STRAIGHT PERRIS LATE MODEL WIN THIS SATURDAY!

(JULY 24, 2007, PERRIS, CA) Bakersfield, California’s John Lowrey will be seeking his second straight win in the Art’s Concrete Pumping Extreme Late Model Class this Saturday night, July 28th, at Perris Auto Speedway. Joining the Late Models on the world famous Riverside County clay oval will be the MC Builders Super Stocks, PASSCAR Modifieds and Street Stocks. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 6:30. Fans from Perris who show a valid id at the ticket window for verification will be admitted free on Saturday night and Friday at the drag races on the Street Legal Strip at The PAS.

Lowrey, a 40-year old business owner, dominated the action and nearly swept the show two weeks ago when the series last appeared at The PAS. He set fast time, finished second in his heat and won the main event after starting 8th in the 17 car field. (a photo of Lowrey is attached to this release as a courtesy – if used, please credit K.C. Rooney).

“John Lowrey was more than impressive two weeks ago,” stated Perris promoter Don Kazarian. “He set fast time and won the main, but most impressive was him passing Mike Kirby for the win. Kirby has more laps than any driver in any class at The PAS and he knows the track better than anyone. When you pass him, you know you have done a good job.”

Lowrey’s win over the tough field came in only his second appearance at the track this year and it ended much better than his first time. In February, the 22-year racing veteran was slammed into the turn two wall by another driver early in the main event.

Lowrey will be one of the favorites again this Saturday night, but will be hard pressed by Kirby, series point leader Art Peterson of Cathedral City, California and three generations of the racing Bartels’ Harley-Davidson clan. The PAS is expecting it’s largest Late Model field of the year on Saturday.

Families can save on Saturday with the popular PAS Family 4-Pack. Mom, Dad and two kids will get into Saturday’s races for $40.00 and they will also get four hot dogs and four sodas. All they have to do is ask for the Family 4-Pack at the ticket window.

Saturday’s exhibition of high-speed dare and skill will include qualifying for the Late Models and heat races and main events for all of the classes.

In addition to Saturday's race on the half-mile clay oval, there will be drag racing on Friday at the popular Street Legal Strip at The PAS where you can race your own car for just $30.00. Gates at the will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 6:00.

Anyone wishing more information can contact Perris Auto Speedway at (951) 940-0134.

Perris Auto Speedway is located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds (home of the Southern California Fair), approximately one hour east of Los Angeles and one hour North of San Diego. To get to the track, take the 215 freeway, exit at the Ramona Expressway and go two miles east to the fairgrounds.

Video and DVD productions for all PASSCAR events are available from Pasadena, California’s RAZ Video. For more information on these shows call Howie Zechner at (626) 449-1175 or send an E-mail to: [email protected].

Placerville Speedway; where the fans are among the most generous in times of need
By Bill Sullivan

PLACERVILLE, CA – The spectators that fill the grandstands at Placerville Speedway every Saturday night are often referred to as one big family. The combination of driver’s mothers, fathers, wives and siblings are gathered weekly with many spectators that are in no way connected to the drivers on the other side of the fence each week.

There is one thing all of the many different faces have in common in the grandstands at Placerville Speedway each week They are all caring, giving individuals that will help others in a time of need. Whether it is in the form of showing support for a fallen relative of a driver during a special presentation or contributing their hard earned dollars to an injured driver or victims of a tragedy this “Family” always shows their true colors in a time of need.

Earlier this season, the fans and drivers of Placerville Speedway illustrated just how powerful of a force they are when they contributed nearly $15,000 to a recovery fund for injured driver Billy Sellers of Sacramento. The result of the campaign was absolutely heartwarming as businesses donated raffle items and drivers collected donations from fans in the stands, just one week after they witnessed one of the most frightening accidents in track history that ended Sellers’ racing career with a serious spine injury.

This past month, the fans of Placerville Speedway pulled together once again during the July Fourth Spectacular to participate with the Food Bank of El Dorado County as they brought their annual “Christmas in July” program to the speedway. The fund raiser brought stock car drivers into the grandstands with open helmets to take collections to directly assist the victims of the Angora Fire in South Lake Tahoe. Once again the result of the effort was a clear illustration that caring and community giving is still commonplace in the small town of Placerville.

The Food Bank of El Dorado County is the largest charitable organization in the county, serving more than 50 local charities from El Dorado Hills to South Lake Tahoe including emergency food closets, soup kitchens, maternity homes, women’s center’s, drug and alcohol rehab centers, low income children’s programs, homeless shelters and more.

On this very night Placerville Speedway fans raised over $1000 in less than five minutes for the Food Bank campaign. For each dollar donated the organization can provide $7 worth of food to those in need. So on this night those race fans made a choice to possible forego that second beverage or corn dog to help others that were not so fortunate and generated over $7000 worth of food and necessities in the wake of El Dorado County’s most horrific wild fire.

For the remainder of the racing season we can only hope and pray that another tragedy does not strike in El Dorado County. Nevertheless, should an incident occur when assistance is desperately needed this family that is best known as “the fans” will surely be there to help once again.

Placerville Speedway hosts “Shingle Springs Nissan Night” this Saturday

Point standings remain tight entering final month of 2007 championship season

By Bill Sullivan

PLACERVILLE, CA – Following a week off, competitors are expected to be back in action in all four divisions at Placerville Speedway this Saturday for the 12th El Dorado County New Car Dealer’s, Hoosier Racing Tires, Coors Light Championship racing season. Saturday’s event will feature winged 360 sprint cars, pro stocks and pure stocks together with the popular Nor-Cal Dwarf Cars all competing on “Shingle Springs Nissan Night” at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds.

Shingle Springs Nissan is located on Wild Chaparral Road near the Ponderosa Road exit off of Highway 50 in Shingle Springs. The popular auto dealership is a member of the El Dorado County New Car Dealer Association, the title sponsor of the Placerville Speedway championship season. Saturday night, John Padjen Motorsports will recognize the area dealership’s participation in local auto racing by welcoming some 100 associates and special guests to the speedway.

“The El Dorado County New Car Dealer Association and all of its members are great contributors not only to auto racing but to many organizations in the community,” said track promoter John Padjen. “We welcome the associates of the dealership and their families here Saturday night for their own special evening and will be doing so for every dealership in the association that formed this great partnership with us three years ago.”

Headlining Saturday’s event will be the Hoosier Racing Tires 360 sprint cars as they compete in their 10th event of the 2007 racing season. Entering Saturday’s event, defending track champion Greg DeCaires of Elk Grove will continue his Cinderella season as the current division point leader.

Earlier in the year, DeCaires announced this would be his final season behind the wheel of the competitive John Taylor owned #35 car. In 2008 the former Northern Auto Racing Club and Golden State Challenge star will return to full time racing in the traveling GSC 410 sprint car series. The division is where DeCaires feels best suited and while he looks forward to competing with his new NMI Industrial Team, he remains committed to Taylor during his fourth and final year with the team.

“We have some big plans for next year with Golden State,” said DeCaires. “But until then I still have a job to do in the seat of the #35 car. John Taylor and his family have been so good to me. They are all like family to me and we’re going to keep it that way. I can’t believe the season we’ve been having so far. Maybe I should I say every year is my last one in the car and things will go my way.”

Although his stint with Taylor has long been successful, DeCaires has already had success this season that many drivers hope to accomplish over several seasons. He has claimed seven top five finishes at Placerville this year and most recently won the $21,000 Mark Forni Memorial race, the biggest win during his term with Taylor.

DeCaires enters Saturday’s event with a nine point advantage over Placerville’s Jimmy Trulli. Like DeCaires, Trulli is having a great year aboard his family owned #33 sprint car. The veteran driver has earned seven top five finishes and two Zam Fencing-Direct Traffic Control Fast Time Awards so far this season.

Sitting third in the standings is previous point leader C.J. Humphreys of Placerville. Although a stint of hard luck has caused him to slip two positions in the standings, Humphreys remains well in the hunt for the 2007 title aboard his Dale Miller Plumbing and Septic #85. Humphreys is the winningest driver of the division with three feature victories to his name and trails the leader by just 18-points.

Placerville’s Scott Russell is fourth in the standings, only 27 points back with two top five finishes. Russell is being stalked by Colby Wiesz of Colfax who rounds out the top five ahead of Auburn’s Andy Forsberg and Placerville’s James Sweeney.

In the Pro Stock division, Marek Bernert of Fair Oaks will be looking to increase his narrow division point lead. The former Pure Stock champion leads the division by a single digit over two time track champion Mike Moran. Both drivers are one time winners so far this season and Moran has been charging through the standings in recent weeks, seeking his third career title.

For the majority of the season Dan Brown Jr. of Nevada City has led the division point standings. Brown has suffered three straight weeks of mechanical woes, incluing two events in which he was unable to compete in the feature event. As a result, Brown’s one double digit point lead diminished and this week he will look to rally back from the third position where he is still well in the hunt for the title, just 16-points from the leader. Placerville’s Forryst Carnett and Dennis Ahart of Cameron Park round out the to five in this division.

After a series of damaging events, the car count in the popular Pure Stock division has been unusually low. This Saturday many drivers are expected to return after making extensive repairs during the week off.

In this division Jason Englund of Citrus Heights continues to lead the standings by a single digit over Folsom’s Matt Tilford. Both drivers have two feature victories and are friendly rivals on the track known for clean, competitive driving tactics. Mike McClure of Nevada City, another veteran driver that displays great sportsmanship is third in the standings after four consecutive wins. Rick Grunert of Woodland is fourth overall followed by Brian Stevens of Pollock Pines and Danielle Clauson of Mount Aukumn.

The three track regulars are being joined by the colorful coupes of the Nor Cal Dwarf Car Association. This division is by far the most popular traveling division, known for its great wheel to wheel competition that takes place among the field of miniature machines that replicate the coupes of yesteryear.

In this division look for series leader Mike Grenert of Travis Air Force Base to lead the field along with second place runner Kevin Bender, Neil Stinson, Patrick Weger, Josh Hiatt and many more, including local star Doug Martin of Eldorado.

The gates to Placerville Speedway will open at 5 p.m. Saturday night. Adult tickets will be $11, Juniors and Seniors $9, children $4 and under six will be admitted for free. Placerville Speedway is located on the El Dorado County Fairgrounds. All seating is general admission. Track management wishes to remind everyone that cans and bottles are not permitted in the “Family Friendly” grandstand. For further information log on to www.johnpadjenmotorsports.com.

THE STOCKCAR RACING LEAGUE RETURNS TO SHASTA RACEWAY PARK

WILTON, California -- The SRL Touring Series returns to Anderson, CA this Saturday to light up the fairgrounds at Shasta Raceway park with 100 laps of exhilarating racing. The SRL is made up of some of the most skilled drivers, driving the fastest cars, providing the best in short track racing entertainment. Modesto’s Steve Belletto will be pushing to take his first checkered flag after finishing in the top 5 in each of the first three races this year.

Belletto is also right at the top of the SRL driver points followed closely by Dave Byrd of Seaside, CA and brother Jeff Belletto. Todd Bammer (San Leandro, CA) is just 4 points ahead of Bryan Herzog (Clovis, CA) in the Victory Circle Chassis and Parts rookie points race after a 7th place finish at the 4th of July Holiday race at Madera. Rookie Porter Smith also will be one to watch after his top 5 finish in May during round 1 of the HotWood Late Model 300.

“We anticipate a very fast field of cars as we return to Anderson for the second round of the California HotWood Late Model 300,” said Steve Fensler, executive series director for the SRL. “Our first race of the SRL season back in May was outstanding and we know George Wade and the crew at Shasta Raceway will put on a great night of racing for the fans.”

TOM SMITH HOPING HE STAYS ‘LUCKY’ LONG ENOUGH TO WIN $1,500 FIGURE 8 SHOOTOUT AT ORANGE SHOW

SAN BERNARDINO, California -- Ask Tom Smith the secret to his success at Orange Show Speedway this season and he laughs and says “just lucky, I guess.”

Then Smith is asked what he expects this Saturday (July 28), when the Lucas Oil Outlaw Figure 8 drivers expect to be joined by several visiting racers to contend for the $1,500 that will go to the winner of the Summer Shootout, and he sounds more serious when he replies, “I just hope my luck doesn’t run out.”

The BSR West Late Models, ASA Stock Ponys, Leno’s Rico Taco Legends Cars and Street Stocks will join the loud, fast Figure 8 cars on a program that offers both variety and excitement.

It will be Family Night at the speedway and all children 12 and under will be admitted free with a paid adult.

Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. and racing gets under way at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors (62 and over), handicapped and juniors (13-16). Active military personnel and veterans with valid military identification are admitted free of charge. Parking is $4 per car with entry through Gate 3 off Mill Street.

Those unable to make it to the speedway still can follow the action with “Orange Show Speedway Live,” the radio broadcast on KTTD (AM 1350) that begins at 8 p.m. and is simulcast on the Internet at www.nixacountry.com.

The Shootout will be the 10th Outlaw Figure 8 race of the year on the ASA-sanctioned track at the National Orange Show Events center, and so far Smith has been the only driver to visit Victory Circle after a main event. The Lakewood resident also has won six heat races and set fast time on six occasions.

That domination has given Smith a seemingly-insurmountable 40-point lead with six of the season’s 15 races remaining. But it also has made him a target for the Orange Show Speedway regulars like Rusty Stewart, Jay Henson, Harry Kuenniger and “Barefoot” Billy Ziemann, who’ll be joined this weekend by several visiting drivers.

Riverside’s Rod Proctor, who was instrumental in bringing the class back to the Orange Show, is trying to get his new car finished. So is Johnny “Big Dawg” Betzer, a former Street Stock regular. Part-time speedway racers Steve Stewart, Tony Curtis and Roby Stutzel also are expected for the event, which in addition to the $1,500 to win pats $900 for second, $650 for third and $150 to start.

Smith said throughout California there probably are only two dozen or so Figure 8 cars and he’s hoping 15 or 20 of them will show up for Saturday’s show, even if it makes it harder for him to continue his winning streak at the track where he got his start in racing.

Smith, 32, said in his mind the keys to success are maintenance – “keeping up on the car and trying to keep on top of everything” – and patience. “You’ve got to have some patience and try not to be over-aggressive to where you tear stuff up. You’ve got to have patience.”

The way the course for Figure 8 racing is laid out, the drivers start on the back straightaway and negotiate Turns 3 and 4 in norman fashion, then turn left and cross the infield, turn right and run Turns 2 and 1 in the opposite direction from oval racing, then make another right turn and recross the infield to Turn 3.

Proctor called it a form of racing that demands “speed, good judgment calls and a lot of guts,” and Smith said it also takes faith in your fellow competitors.

“You learn who you can trust and who you can’t, who’ll cut you some slack and who won’t, and you see how it goes,” said Smith, who fabricated and maintains his Chevrolet-based car while father Steve Smith prepares the small-block Chevrolet engines.

“Everybody kind of sticks together. We do our best to get along and try to help each other so the cars can get out there.”

Racing at Orange Show Speedway is sponsored by Lucas Oil, Blackhawk Protection, Hype Manufacturing, Del Taco, Aflac Insurance, KTTD radio (AM 1350), Leno’s Rico Taco, Soboba Casino, Budweiser, Hoosier Racing Tires, Frank’s Radio Service, Torco Racing Fuels, Parker Pumper/BSR West, Eibach Springs, JP Striping, Center Chevrolet, Pepsi, Matich Coporation, L. Curti Truck and Equipment, One Stop Landscape Supply, Extreme Exhibits & Logistics, Little Green Onions and the San Bernardino County Sun.

Let the CHASE Begin at Madera Speedway!
Madera Speedway Media Release - July 24, 2007
Dale Bosowski - Media Relations

The Short Track Thunder continues this Saturday night, July 28 with USG Event Night at Madera Speedway. The NASCAR Whelen All-American Racing Series program will include a 75-lap, $1,500 to win feature for the Western Late Models, plus the American Limited Stock Cars, Modified Super Toyotas, 360 Super Modifieds, Toyota Sedans and Hornets.

Last Saturday, Stockton's Ross Strmiska had the fans on their feet with his dramatic late race pass on Modesto's Mike Beeler that catapulted the 21-year-old third generation driver to his first career Western Late Model win. That exciting race also closed the books on the 10 event "Road to the Chase" - the first of a two part, season long competition that will untimely determine the Madera Speedway track champion for 2007.

The top 20 drivers in cumulative points from the first 10 races will now move on to the six race "Chase For the Championship" - the second phase the competition. Those twenty drivers will retain only their trophy dash, heat and qualifying points from the first ten races.

The revamped standings show Mark Holeman, of Los Altos, now holding a slim 74 to 42 point lead over Manteca's Ross Strmiska going into this Saturday's Western Late Model event. Stearns lays just one slim point behind Strmiska while Trevor Schlundt, of Clovis, sits just two points behind Strmiska.

Rank Driver Hometown Points
1 Mark Holeman Los Altos 74
2 Ross Strmiska Stockton 42
3 Joey Stearns Stockton 41
4 Trevor Schlundt Clovis 40
5 Chris Monez Turlock 30
6 Justin Philpott Tracy 29
7 David Philpott Tracy 28
8 Harry Belletto Modesto 22
8 Rick Thompson Clovis 22
8 Dale Kascht Raymond 22
8 Brock Monroe Escalon 22
8 Rodney Funston Oakdale 22
13 Sam Solari Salida 15
13 Matt Erickson Don Pedro 15
15 Pete Anderson Jr. Stockton 8
15 Carlos Viera Merced 8
15 Glen Cook Fremont 8
19 Jim Courage Jr. Roseville 6
19 Amy Rotella-Roberts Fresno 6
20 Del McIntosh Madera 4

While these twenty will be the only drivers now eligible for the 2007 Western Late Model championship, there will still be plenty of spoilers out there such as Beeler, Manteca's Eric Nascimento and Modesto's Kyle Gottula.

Although the point standings will not be reset in the remaining classes, the battle for the track championships in those divisions promises to be just as fierce. The class leaders heading into this week's action include Stockton's Donny Darter in the American Limited Stock Cars, Madera's Shon "Woody" Woods in the Modified Super Toyotas, Fresno's Stan Hankins in the Toyota Sedans, Bakersfield's David Tuey in the 360 Super Modifieds and 67-year-young grandfather Miles Humphreys, of Clovis, in the wild Hornet division.

Come out this Saturday, July 28, join in the fun and see history in the making at the at the home of Short Track Thunder - the Madera Speedway.

Ticket prices Saturday, July 28 are only $12.00 for adults, $10.00 for seniors 65 years of age or older, students, active duty military and juniors age 13-17, $5.00 for kids age 6-12 and kids 5 and under are free when accompanied by a paying adult. A family pack ticket (two adults and up to two kids 12 years old and under) is also available for the bargain price of $30.00. Adult fans with a sales receipt from any Save Mart Supermarket store receive a $5 discount at the gate on race days. VISA and MasterCard are welcome at window #3.

The Madera Speedway pit gates will open at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 28, practice begins at 12:30 PM, the grandstands open at 2:00 PM, qualifying begins at 2:30 PM and the first green flag will wave to begin the evening's racing at approximately 5:00 PM.

The Madera Speedway is located at the Madera County Fairgrounds just off to the west side of Highway 99 at the Cleveland Avenue exit.

Championship To Be Decided at Silver Dollar Speedway This Weekend
by Troy Hennig

CHICO, CA (7-23-07) - The Golden State Challenge King of California Series championship will be decided this Friday and Saturday night at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. Rounds number 24 and 25 will take place putting the season long battle between Campbell's Brent Kaeding and Oroville's Sean Becker for the championship on the line with one of the two stopping on the front straight away after Saturday night's finale. Kaeding leads Becker by 22-points heading into the final two rounds of racing. Full fields of 410 winged sprint cars are scheduled for both nights of racing. On Friday night the wingless sprint cars will join their winged counterparts. On Saturday night the dirt modifieds will join the 410 winged sprint cars.

Front gates will open at 5 pm on both nights. Adult general admission is $16.00. Juniors are $11.00 while children are $4.00. Sprint car qualifying is scheduled to start at 7 pm with racing to follow.

Brent Kaeding has been the class of the field all season long. Kaeding, who hold 12 King of California titles but none since 2003, has won the most main events this season with eight. Kaeding has 18 top five finishes out of 22 starts, tops among the series. His counterpart Sean Becker doesn't have the win pedigree that Kaeding does, two wins, but he has more top tens and heat wins than Kaeding. Becker has compiled 22 top ten's out of 23 starts. He has also won seven heat races, also tops in the division. Sacramento's Willie Croft sits in the third spot in his first full season following the King of California series. Croft picked up his second career victory and first of this season at Quincy in June. San Jose driver Jason Statler will lead his team into battle this weekend while sitting in the fourth spot. Statler's season was marred when he split with car owner Tom Rolfe and scrambled to put his own deal back together. With help from numerous people he was able to continue and fight for a top five finish. Chico's Brett Miller rounds out the top five. Miller leads the local drivers in the point standings. Miller and crew have even raced the pasted few events with a 360 motor just to keep in the point chase. Rounding out the top ten in points and drivers who should attend include Salinas driver Ronnie Day, Gilroy's Jon Maiwald, Tracey's Jason Botsford, Fresno's Mark Workentine and Scotts Valley driver Evan Suggs. San Jose driver Tim Kaeding is also slated to return after missing the previous week at Chico with a back injury. Kaeding raced on Friday night at Watsonville and won the most recent King of California event. Also scheduled to attend is the Beef Packers driver Brandon Wimmer.

Locals who look to compete with the traveling King of California driver's include Ashley Furniture driver Fast Eddy Lewis, Stephen Allard in Skip Jones #1m and Ryan Kaplan of Chico. Kaplan is scheduled to drive the #64 Fauver Race Ready Rental sprint car. Kaplan earlier this year drove the Troy Hovey owned #37. Kaplan currently leads the Western States Sprint Car Series on pavement. Allard has three wins at Chico this year and is coming off a strong charge from 20th to 3rd this past Friday night during the Civil War race at Chico.

Other locals will include Johnny Gray, Robbie Whitchurch and Mason Moore. All three of these drivers have competed in out Friday night series.

Garth Moore, owner of his son Mason Moore's #22 sprint car, is sponsoring the weekend. Moore Insurance Services and Financial Inc. business in sponsoring the weekend's festivities along with Scrubs Car Wash in Chico. His son, Mason, is just sixteen years old and currently run both the 410 winged Friday night series and the Civil War 360 series. He and his team are starting to make a big splash in open wheel racing.

Cherry St. Mini Storage of Ukiah will be adding a special bonus for the weekend. Mike and Carol McCann are giving $1,000 to the driver who can earn the most points for both nights of racing. This should give the drivers extra incentive to make every pass they can on the track to earn more points.

On Saturday night HoservilleCa is starting the qualifying pot at $250 for quick time. Last year the group surged the award to over $700 by the time qualifying started on Saturday night.

Also on Saturday night, Man Camp Motorsports wants to give away trophies to the heat race winners. They in turn will walk two trophies into the grandstand and give them away to a young racing fan, boy and a girl.

On Saturday afternoon the Benevolent Fund Barbeque will start at noon inside the Garden Court on the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds. This year the barbeque will be free but any donation collected will go into the Benevolent Fund. This year will not feature a raffle but later in the night other fund raising themes will take place during the night of racing.

Marysville Raceway Park
Press Release 7.26.07
Bob Burbach

3-time champ Lovell will return for “Dilly Bar Night”
FREE Ice Cream for all Saturday

Marysville CA. 3-time champion in the Winged Sprint Cars ranks, Yuba City’s Korey Lovell, will return to MRP Saturday night. Paul and Kathy Hawes will present an ambitious 4-division program featuring the alcohol burning winged rockets. Car owner Richard Lovell said today that son Korey will be racing hard to win on Saturday. Without the pressure of point racing lurking in the background Lovell can just “go for it” all night long.

Lovell has made infrequent visits to his home track this year, but when he has appeared he has dominated. Three weeks ago he was passed with but 1 lap to go when his right front tire lost air, while leading. Last time out he won the feature event and the “Dash for Cash” on the same night. Hitting his late season championship stride with no championship to chase makes Lovell a formidable challenge in Saturday’s program.

Additional news from the Lovell Bros racing camp says that Kevin Lovell will be back behind the wheel of his familiar #81 by late August for the final few races of the season at MRP. Kevin Lovell’s absence this year has been a bit of a mystery considering his successes of the past two seasons. We’ll see how this pans out in the weeks to come.

Grass Valley’s Jeremy Burt continues to lead the standings in the winged sprint cars. Burt has parlayed an opening night feature victory together with an astonishing string of top 5 finishes to remain solidly atop the point standings. Racing veteran and dad Jack Burt fields the entry each week.

Mike Monahan’s recent return to the winged sprint car wars here has been a great addition to the show. Sparks Nevada’s own “Madman” knows only one way to drive…flat out. Always a crowd pleaser, the 2004 champion will be slinging his blue 49 into the turns when the lights turn green Saturday.

Like Korey Lovell, Marysville’s Jeremy Hawes has saddled up for some late season racing after opting to sit out much of the 1st half of the season. Hawes will be at the wheel of his familiar Flyin’ Ford in the “Wingless Warrior” wingless sprint car portion of the show. Sacramento's Pat Russum and local driver Mark Hill of Yuba City, will renew their struggle for the championship in that division. Hammer-down open wheel action will be the offering at MRP starting at 7 PM. A full program of thrills and spills will punctuate the fast moving program.

The KKCY Stock Cars will also do battle in the quest for the KKCY Country 103 Cup as well. Local stars Phillip Shelby and Heather Bartlett will once again showcase their pitched battle for the title. SORA’s touring Sprint 100s will round out the card.

The front gates of Marysville Raceway Park will open at 5 PM, racing starts at 7 PM.

DOG DAYS OF SUMMER PROMOTION KICKS OFF AT IRWINDALE SPEEDWAY SATURDAY NIGHT WITH TWO FOR ONE TICKETS AND FOUR RACES

IRWINDALE, California -- Irwindale Speedway kicks off its Dog Days of Summer by offering a special spectator promotion each Saturday night beginning July 28 through August 25. This Saturday the Speedway provides fans the opportunity to purchase two tickets for the price of one with kids five and under admitted for free.

Three Whelen All-American NASCAR Weekly Racing Series division races and one USAC Ford Focus Midget race are on tap Saturday night including the ACDelco Super Late Models, King Taco Super Trucks, Vista Paint Super Stocks and K&N Ford Focus Midgets.

Despite his consecutive victory streak halted at seven wins, San Fernando’s Rip Michel’s has taken over the ACDelco Super Late Model division points lead from rookie Travis Thirkettle of Newhall. Both drivers experienced problems in the racing twin bill back on July 14, but Michels managed to accumulate 56 points in the two races, 10 points better than Thirkettle. While Michels holds a slim six point cushion over Thirkettle, Andrew Phipps of Simi Valley and David Beat of Blossom Valley have inched their way up the division standings. Phipps won the second race of the twin bill and is in third place, 34 points out of the lead while Beat captured 4th and 2nd place finishes and is in 4th place, 40 points behind the division leader.

With back-to-back wins in his last two starts, Santee’s Matt Hicks is riding a wave of momentum going into Saturday’s King Taco Super Truck race with the hope of challenging Pat Mintey Jr of Quartz Hill for the division lead. Only 38 points separate the two drivers.

The Vista Paint Super Stock standings are even closer. Only two points separate division leader and defending champion Bryan Harrell of Riverside and Darren Cheek of San Bernardino. Both drivers have had remarkable seasons to date with Harrell accumulating four victories and four runner-up finishes and Cheek posting four victories and three runner-up finishes in eight outings. Greg Crutcher of Covina is in third place, 34 points off of the pace for the division lead.

The USAC Ford Focus Midgets make the second of five appearances to compete in a special K&N Filters sponsored series at Irwindale Speedway. Tim Skoglund of Fresno won the first race, 0.420 of a second ahead of Nic Faas of Huntington Beach. Skoglund leads the Ford Focus Midgets California Paved standings with 542 points.

Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. for Saturday’s event with the King Taco fan appreciation autograph session with drivers, teams and race cars on the track at 5:45 p.m. The first race starts at 7 p.m.
