SANTA MARIA GRAND SLAM INFORMATION
BY CLIFF MORGAN - VRA Director of Competition

Information post for this weekend's event at Santa Maria.

I spoke with Dave Swindell, Santa Maria promoter, yesterday and he told me that the pits will open at 1:00pm on Saturday. Pit prices will be $35.00 for Competitors or members of VRA or Bandits. General pit passes will be $45.00 for non-members and general public pit passes. Be sure to bring you membership cards to show if they request.

Some More General Information:

1. Remember you MUST have ASCS Gaskets, VRA 180 Mufflers, Hoosier RC3 or VRA right rear, RC1 or harder left rear. D12's are ok, but RD12's are not as they are softer than the RC1 per my discussion with Hoosier.
2. The approved Gaskets, Mufflers and tires are required, so if you show up without them you will have to purchase them that day, if available, and put them on. No exceptions, as these rules have been out for over several months, so do not plead ignorance of the rules.
3. Fuel and tires will be available at the track.
4. Remember the weight rule of 1500lbs with driver at the end of the night's racing. We will have scales to weigh the top finishing cars that night.
5. The Format for the night will be posted at the track on Saturday. It will include warm-ups, qualifying, A last chance race depending on final car count, heat races, two semi mains and a 22 car 30 lap feature.
6. There is no race entry fee for this event other than pit pass entry fee as listed above.
7. This is race two of four. The next race in the series will be at Santa Maria on October 13 and the final race will be October 27 at Ventura Raceway.
8. We will discuss these items and any other issues at the driver's meeting on Saturday.

If you have any questions, please call 805-985-5433x115 after 4pm or email me at [email protected]

These rules apply to all competitors, please note-exceptions apply only to people who make donations to the promoter to keep the race track open, traction control is permitted at Santa maria speedway, altering ASCS gaskets is OK (the SMS tech person and his 'assistant' don't really look at them anyway) and you can now soften right rear tires, as long as you change them as soon as you get back to your trailer.

good luck Jesse Mack on continuing your dominance at SMS.

Just a quick reply to your post. Since this is a co-sanctioned race with VRAwe will be involved in the teching of cars and I can assure you we will check the gaskets, and we know how to check them, and if need be durometer the tires. They will need to be within the specs that Hoosier has sent to me for the allowed tires we run in this series. As far as traction control is concerned we do not allow it in VRA and it is not allowed for this series. With that said, it is hard to catch, but we will do what we can to stop this from happening. It is our intent to follow the rules to the letter. Protests are always allowed if procedure is followed properly. We do not want to tear down any engines, but we can do it if we feel someone is not following the rules set for this event.

The track was a lot better for the USAC/BCRA midget show a couple weeks ago. Ask Ray, he'll give it to you straight. Hopefully it's like that this week, and not like the horrendous track that CRA had to run on last month.
