Franz Topples NCRA Modified Foes at 81 Speedway
?
?
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Park City, Kansas - August 31, 2013 - Former five-time tour champion Brian Franz continued his month of August track dominance as he took the lead on lap two and never looked back in claiming the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products modified feature finale Saturday night at 81 Speedway in Park City.

Dan Powers and Kip Hughes started on the front row for the twenty-five lap feature with Powers taking the early lead as the green flag fell. His lead was short-lived, however, as he spun in turn two to bring out the first and only caution of the race.

The restart would give Josh Lanterman the lead but it was second starting Brian Franz who would take the lead entering turns three and four. Lanterman, Hughes, Jon Thompson and Dustin Belcher gave chase with the leader quickly opening up a ten car length lead.

Lap four saw Thompson dispose of Hughes for the third position and he set his sights on Lanterman for the runner up position. Franz would increase his lead by a half straightaway while behind him,

Lanterman’s second place run would come to an end as he broke a belt, sending him into the pits putting Thompson into the runner up position on lap eleven.

With no caution flags the final half of the race, Franz would go on to claim his second tour feature victory of the season, his fourth at the track (including weekly shows) for the month of August and add to his career tour victory total.

Thompson looked to have a shot at catching up to Franz as the leader entered lapped traffic on lap seventeen but couldn’t get close enough to challenge. The Nebraska veteran would finish a strong second while eighth starting Ross Shipman took over the third position with two laps to go and stayed there. Belcher held off current tour point leader Marc Hurd for the fifth position.

The four, ten lap heat races for the 34 car field were won by Thompson, Powers, Franz and Hurd while Belcher led wire to wire the twelve lap “B” feature.

Entering tomorrow (Sunday) nights event at the Belleville High Banks in Belleville, Kansas, the unofficial points for the 2013 NCRA modified point championship looks like this: 1) Marc Hurd 2065, 2)
Dustin Belcher 2035, 3) A.J. Brochu 2010, 4) Dan Powers 1990, 5) Josh Lanterman 1950, 6) Jason McGehee 1890, 7) Don Hodge 1825, 8) Jon Thompson 1825, 9) Justin Moler 1555, 10) Jase Wedel 1345
