MIDGETS HEAD FOR McCOOL JUNCTION & BELLEVILLE

California drivers Darren Hagen of Riverside and Johnny Rodriguez of Elk Grove will be out to protect their respective point leads in the USAC National and Western Midget Series this week as the series combine for four races in five nights.

The venue for Tuesday and Wednesday’s “Cornhusker Midget Challenge” is Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb. and the 30th Mopar “Belleville Midget Nationals” unfold at the Belleville (Kans.) High Banks Friday and Saturday. The McCool Junction events are under co-sanction with POWRi and mark USAC’s debut at that 3/8-mile dirt oval.

Hagen owns a 68-point lead over defending USAC National Midget Champion Jerry Coons Jr. with nearly 300 points available this week. Rodriguez’ Western lead stands at 56 points over Scott Pierovich.

A pair of 30-lap features are on tap at McCool Junction, while Friday’s feature at Belleville is a 25-lapper and Saturday’s Belleville finale is a 40-lapper.

Former Belleville Midget Nationals champions expected to be among the large field of entries at the 1/2-mile dirt oval include defending champion Josh Wise (2003 and 2006), Coons (2005), Dave Darland (1999 and 2002) and Robby Flock (1996).
